Mumbai, July 28 - Marvel Studios/Disney's Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has become the first-ever movie franchise to hit $30 billion at the worldwide box office after the release of the latest blockbuster Deadpool and Wolverine. The milestone was announced during the studio's Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con, led by studio chief Kevin Feige.## MCU started with Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man (2008) which grossed $586 million globally. The latest Deadpool & Wolverine which is the 34th movie in the blockbuster franchise pushed the MCU to become the first to reach the $30 billion milestone after the record opening for an R-rated title and is poised to score $450+ million in its global opening weekend. ## The comic book turned into a feature film franchise has delivered unbelievable success for Marvel/Disney. Across the 34 films so far, Avengers: Endgame ($2.799 billion) and Avengers: Infinity War ($2.05 billion) stand as the two highest-grossing MCU films globally, followed by Spider-Man: No Way Home as the third biggest with $1.92 billion.## Between the top-grossing titles, MCU has also seen tough days with major mishits such as The Marvels, the 33rd movie in the franchise, and the most recent to Deadpool 3. It is the lowest-grossing MCU title ever with just $206 million worldwide. Another Marvel misfire was Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, the 31st movie in the series, with $476 million worldwide.## The second highest-earning movie franchise in the world is Sony Pictures-produced Spider-Man with $10.6 billion across 10 movies, followed by Star Wars at three with $10.3 billion across 11 films; Harry Potter with $9.6 billion across 11 films at 4th, and James Bond with $7.8 billion across 25 films at 5. ## For MCU, the next movie is Captain America: Brave New World, scheduled to be released on February 14, 2025. California, July 28 - Robert Downey Jr. is returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), but in a new avatar as the actor has been revealed to play villainous Victor Von Doom in the next two Avengers movies, to be directed by the Russo Brothers - Joe Russo and Anthony Russo. ## The blockbuster announcement was made during the San Diego Comic-Con 2024 event where Marvel has held a panel for the first time since 2022. Downey Jr. will be introduced as Doctor Doom in Avengers 5, which is now titled Avengers: Doomsday, and Avengers: Secret Wars. Both the movies are scheduled to be released in 2026 and 2026, respectively## Over the years, Robert Downey Jr. has been an integral part of the MCU as the iconic protagonist Iron Man/Tony Stark since his debut in the 2008 Iron Man movie, and reprised the role in 10 Marvel films, including next 2 Iron Man movies, "The Incredible Hulk", "The Avengers", "Captian America: Civil War", "Avengers: Age of Ultron", "Spider-Man: Homecoming", "Avengers: Infinity War" and "Avengers: Endgame". ## Downey's character as Iron Man died in Avengers: Endgame, and since then, there have been speculations that he might return in future MCU movies considering how the franchise has been shaping up with the Multiverse and Mutant saga. Chennai, July 27 - Tamil action thriller Raayan has had an excellent start at the domestic box office with approximately 15.75 crores gross collection. It is now the biggest opening for actor Dhanush, beating his previous high of approximately 12 crore gross with Karnan in 2021. ## At the overseas box office, the A-rated title scored approximately 7.25 crores gross, for approximately 23 crores worldwide on opening day, again the biggest for the actor beating Captain Miller which scored approximately 14 crores gross.## The domestic box office of 15.75 crores of Raayan includes approximately 10.60 crores in Tamil Nadu which is again the biggest for the actor in the state. The Telugu version of the movie also fared decently with approximately 2 crores gross in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, followed by 1.80 crores in Karnataka, 90 lakh in Kerala and 40 lakh in the rest of India market.## It is the second biggest opening for a Tamil movie of 2024, behind only Kamal Haasan's Indian 2 which scored 30.25 crores gross in India and 56.25 crores worldwide on the opening day. Los Angeles, July 26 - The third Deadpool movie, Deadpool and Wolverine celebrated its Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) debut with the record-breaking opening for an R-rated movie ever after scoring a monstrous $38.5 million on Thursday previews at the domestic (North America) box office.## The high-profile Deadpool threequel, starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman as Deadpool and Wolverine, respectively, beats its predecessor, Deadpool 2's previews earning of $18.6 million to score the biggest start for an R-rated title by more than a double margin. ## Other than being a record start for an R-rated, Deadpool & Wolverine is at 8th on the list of top previews among all films, not adjusted for inflation. Mumbai, July 25 - It hasn't been a great year for Hollywood movies at the Indian box office with only Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire managing to hit 100 crores net collection in the first 6 months so far. However, things are expected to change in the second half of the year, starting with Marvel Studios' highly-anticipated Deadpool and Wolverine. ## The third Deadpool movie, starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, is scheduled to hit the big screen on July 26. The anticipation for the movie among Indian audiences is as high as some of the biggest Marvel movies in the past and the pre-sales response indicates the same. ## The Shawn Levy's A-rated directorial, which is reportedly releasing on over 3000 screens across the country, has scored one of the biggest pre-sales of the year in India and one of the biggest for a Marvel title in recent times.## As of 9 PM on July 25, Deadpool 3 sold approximately 360K tickets worth 10+ crores gross collection (12.60+ crores gross with block seats) for the opening day in all versions. This sort of advance could have easily ensured a 30+ crores gross opening, but an 'A' rating of the movie may prove to be a hurdle. ## Marvel has an incredible fan following in India and the performances of its films in the past prove the same. Deadpool 3, despite age restrictions, is still expected to take 25+ crores gross (21+ crores net) opening in all versions. Mumbai, July 24 - Disney/Pixar has done it again as the studio's latest blockbuster Inside Out 2 has become the highest-grossing animated movie of all-time at the worldwide box office, beating Disney's Frozen 2. ## The sequel to Inside Out (2015), IO2 has grossed $1.46 billion (12245 crores), surpassing Frozen 2's $1.45 billion final gross on July 23. This is the 7th Disney movie and 5th for Pixar in the top 10 animated highest-grossing movies ever globally. ## In the process of outgrossing Frozen 2, the Inside Out sequel had surpassed Margot Robbie's Barbie ($1.44 billion) a day earlier to become the 13th highest-grossing movie ever, behind Tom Cruise's Top Gun Maverick ($1.49 billion). It can enter the top 10 movies in history by topping Top Gun 2, Furious 7 ($1.51 billion), and The Avengers ($1.51 billion). ## Directed by Kelsey Mann (in his feature directorial debut), Inside Out 2's domestic total stands at $601 million (5030 crores) while it has grossed $862 million (7215 crores) at the overseas box office. Mexico has been the biggest international market for the movie with $98.6 million. Chennai, July 24 - Amid the speculations of which film, between Prabhas-fronted Salaar 2 and Jr. NTR-starrer Dragon (NTR 31) director Prashanth Neel will start next, a new report has emerged that the blockbuster filmmaker is already in talks with Tamil superstar Ajith Kumar for not one but two movies. ## Earlier this year, it was reported that Neel would be collaborating with Ajith Kumar for a standalone movie, and now, according to the report by DT Next, the duo may also do one more film in Prashanth Cinematic Universe which could pave the way for Yash-fronted KGF: Chapter 3.## "Ajith and Prashanth had a meeting during the Vidaa Muyarchi schedule break last month. Prashanth has asked over three years of Ajith's time. Their first collaboration, which could be AK 64, will be a standalone project. This will go on floors in 2025 and be released in 2026", says the report.## The report further said that Hombale Films will bankroll both projects and the climax of the second film will lead to KGF 3 and Ajith Kumar's character is touted to be the biggest of them in Prashanth Cinematic Universe. ## It is, however, to be noted that neither Prashanth Neel nor Hombale Films have confirmed the existence of the Prashanth Cinematic Universe. However, there have been many reports and speculations along with fan theories which suggest there might be this KGF universe where its characters might collide at some point. But as said, there is no official confirmation about the same yet.## Ajith Kumar, meanwhile, recently wrapped up the shoot of Vidaa Muyarchi, scheduled to be released later this year and will join the sets of Adhik Ravichandran’s Good Bad Ugly soon which will hit big screens on Pongal 2025. Mumbai, July 23 - From its lowest opening ever in The Marvels ($110 million worldwide) in November last year to potentially one of the biggest in the MUC history in the upcoming Deadpool and Wolverine, Marvel Studios/Disney is about to change the fate within just 9 months.## Recently, the domestic (North America) box office projection for the third Deadpool movie was revealed at $160+ million, by far the biggest opening for an R-rated (equal to A rating in India) movie ever and now, there is more for the studios to keep their expectations high. ## According to Deadline, the Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman-fronted blockbuster are looking at $340 million - $360 million opening at the global box office, including $180 million - $190 million overseas start which would be the biggest for an R-rated. ## These projections seem to be conservative as a previous report by Deadline (quoting a tracking agency) projected a $200+ million domestic start before most of the tracking sites brought that projection down to $160+ million. Overseas, the movie can still open at $200+ million as reports suggest the pre-sales are exceptional everywhere, so a $400+ million worldwide start is very much a possibility. ## If the aforementioned projection holds, it would be the third biggest MCU opening post the COVID-19 pandemic after Spider-Man: No Way Home ($600 million) and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness ($452 million).
