Mumbai, November 23 - The final of ICC ODI World Cup 2023 between host India and Australia broke viewership records on television and digitally.## Jay Shah, honorary secretary of BCCI and president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) announced via X/Twitter that the final match was watched by 30 crore fans which is an all-time record for any kind of event on Indian television. ## The peak concurrency on television during the final reached a staggering 13 crores which is also the highest ever. Meanwhile, Disney Plus Hotstar also recorded a peak concurrency viewership of 5.9 crores which is the highest ever in the world on any streaming platform. ## Disney+Hotstar had earlier breached the peak concurrency viewership of 4 crores, 4.50 crore, and 5 crore during the tournament and it nearly touched 6 crores in the final. IMAX Reveals Box Office Collection of 'Jawan', 'Pathaan, 'Oppenheimer' And Other Movies of 2023 In India

Mumbai, November 17 - The growing interest among Indian movie audiences has resulted in record-breaking revenue for IMAX in 2023. The large-format immersive cinematic experience, IMAX has exceeded its 2022 box office success in this movie-loving nation by a good margin and set a new revenue record. ## IMAX announced that in 2023, all the IMAX films so far have grossed around $20 million (166 crores) in India, as compared to $18.5 million in 2022. Christopher Nolan's atom bomb movie "Oppenheimer" was easily the most profitable as IMAX announced it grossed around 50 crores in India. ## In 2023, the Indian filmmakers have also tried their luck in IMAX and have a success. Shah Rukh Khan's "Pathaan" and "Jawan" have been the most successful Indian movies for IMAX. It is learned that the action thriller "Jawan" grossed approx. 13 crores while spy actioner "Pathaan" generated around 12 crores in IMAX. ## IMAX has increased its screen count in India to operational 26 screens in 2023 from 22 screens in 2022. As a result, a total of 39 films were released on IMAX in 2023, including 6 Indian films while in 2022, a total of 34 films were released in this format in India. ## The company is also looking at standalone IMAX properties across the country while the average ticket price ranges around ₹360-370, a senior executive said. “The strong Hollywood line-up has played a big role in our business this year but from a local Indian perspective too, we're asked for movies to be released in the IMAX format on an everyday basis and we try and accommodate all those that we can", Preetham Daniel, vice-president APAC (Asia Pacific), theatre development, IMAX Corp., told Mint. ## Among the other films, released in IMAX this year, "Mission Impossible 7" grossed over 10 crores, followed by "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" with approx. 7.80 crores, "Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse" with approx. 6.75 crores. Thalapathy Vijay's "Leo" also has good success with approx. 5.50 crores in IMAX, while Mani Ratnam's "Ponniyin Selvan - 2" minted around 3.50 crores gross. Kartiki Gonsalves-directed The Elephant Whisperers grabbed the Best Short Documentary Film Oscar, becoming the first-ever Oscar win for an Indian production. ## Produced by Guneet Monga and Achin Jain of Sikhya Entertainment, "The Elephant Whisperers" revolves around a family who adopts two orphan baby elephants in Tamil Nadu's Mudumalai Tiger Reserve. Indian Government Aims To Open 1 Lakh Cinema Halls Across India

Mumbai, December 6 - The lack of cinema halls in India could end as the government of India is launching a scheme to open over 100K theatres in the country. State-run CSC e-Governance Services will open 10,000 cinema halls in rural areas by the end of 2024 in collaboration with October Cinemas, according to NDTV.## The opening of theaters in rural areas is part of an agreement signed between CSC, an SPV under the Ministry of Electronics and IT, and October Cinemas. The agreement has been signed with an aim to open around 1 lakh small movie theatres, each having a seating capacity of 100-200 seats. ## "The concept of cinema halls in villages is still new. The aim is to start small cinema halls with around 100 seats. CSC cinema halls will open new avenues for our VLEs (Village-Level Entrepreneurs)", CSC Managing Director Sanjay Kumar Rakesh said.## "Entertainment sector is booming in India and our VLEs will help in the growth of the sector in rural and semi-urban areas. CSC cinema halls, which will also work as a commercial hub, will make our services more accessible to the people in rural areas", he added.## Punit Desai, Managing Director of October Cinemas said that an investment of around ₹ 15 lakh is needed to run these cinema halls which will have video parlour cinema licenses. Under the memorandum of understanding, CSC (Common Service Centre) plans to open 1,500 cinema halls by the end of 2023 which will also act as a hub of various CSC activities in rural areas.## "We are launching CSC Rural Cinema for the entertainment of villagers in remote areas. India is the world's largest entertainment market in terms of movie consumption. Our venture will have features to control the piracy of films. We have already got over 5,000 express of interest requests from VLEs. We hope to make around 10,000 cinema halls operational in rural areas by the end of 2024", Punit Desai said.## Stay tuned...

Bengaluru, November 5 - The makers of the Yash-fronted "KGF" franchise have filed a case against Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Supriya Srinate, and Jairam Ramesh for using KGF songs in their Bharat Jodo Yatra without getting permission, according to India Today report. ## The case has been filed by MRT Music, a Bengaluru-based music label, which owns the music rights to this blockbuster franchise. ## The Congress members have been accused of copyright infringement and in its complaint, the music company said it invested huge sums of money to acquire the rights of the songs of the South Indian super-hit film KGF 2 in Hindi.## According to MRT Music, the Congress has picked up songs from the movie without seeking its permission and has used them to create marketing videos for the Bharat Jodo Yatra featuring Rahul Gandhi. Mumbai, September 23 - The Indian film industry is celebrating India's first ever National Cinema Day today, and it couldn't have asked for a better response than seeing the Housefull boards outside theaters across the nation. ## India is known as the country of festivals and it seems, we have a new addition to our multi-religion festivals in the form of National Cinema Day. ## Intended as a "Thank You" gesture toward the Indian cinema-loving audience, the Multiplex Association of India (MAI) declared September 23, 2022, as India's first ever NCD on which, the ticket prices have been kept as low as Rs. 75 for all the movies releasing on over 4000 out of total 11000 screens nationwide.## MAI has been expecting over 3 million footfalls on NCD and looking at the response, it will achieve the target. Director Ayan Mukerji's "Brahmastra" is the biggest film today and it sold over 11 lakh tickets in advance for the day, followed by "Chup", and "Avatar" re-release. ## Meanwhile, the thing to notice today is that not only Rs. 75 shows are selling out, but also the regular shows with Rs. 300/ticket i.e IMAX, are also getting sold out along with special shows arranged at midnight i.e. 12 AM and 1 AM. ## Such a response hasn't been seen in many years in Indian cinema. Srinagar, September 21 - For the first time in nearly 30 years, the movie-going experience returns to Kashmir as multiple theaters have been inaugurated by Lt governor Manoj Sinha. The government of India is adamant to open theaters in every district of J&K as a part of the socio-economic revolution in the valley.## While inaugurating the 520-seater multiplex theatre in Srinagar, Sinha said land has been identified for developing a film city in the Union Territory (UT). It is Kashmir's first INOX multiplex with a total capacity of 520 persons.## Congratulating the people, Vijay Dhar, owner of the multiplex and INOX Group on the occasion, the Lt Governor said that a major socio-economic revolution is sweeping through J&K in the last 3 years and it is a reflection of a new dawn of hope, dreams, confidence, and aspirations of people, he added.## A couple of days ago, Sinha inaugurated multipurpose cinema halls in the South Kashmir districts of Shopian and Pulwama. Films like "RRR" and "Bhaag Mikha Bhaag" were shown to the people, including students of their respective districts. It was their first-time movie-watching experience in theaters and the joy of it was clearly visible on their faces. ## The Lt Governor observed that the opening of multipurpose cinema halls in Shopian, Pulwama, and the first-ever multiplex cinema hall in Srinagar marks the revival of cinema culture in the Kashmir Valley after three decades.## "Culture is a way of life and cinema being the powerful medium of sharing thoughts and ideas reflects societal values and change. Cinema brings people together. Apart from entertainment, it gives hopes, dreams, and inspiration to youth to pursue their dreams till they realize it", he said.## "Young generations have a strong urge to see a better society, to learn about other cultures, to become part of an interdependent world. And, it is the responsibility of the administration to provide them opportunities and support. The new cinema halls and ongoing film shootings will renew the beautiful bond between Jammu Kashmir and the Indian film industry.## "New film policy has been rolled out with special provisions and incentives for encouraging local youth to take up the film as a career. We are in talks with various stakeholders and have identified the land for developing Film City in the UT and the facility will come up in the UT soon", Sinha added.## Siddharth Jain, Executive Director, INOX Group, while speaking on the occasion, said that the launch of the new multiplex theatre in Kashmir will make the region to be a part of the country's creative economy and contribute to strengthening the soft power of the country.## The 3-screen INOX multiplex will be opened next week with Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan-fronted "Vikram Vedha" and Mani Ratnam's mega movie "PS1", which are scheduled to release on September 30. ## Stay tuned...

MAI President Says Over 4000 Screens Will Participate In India's First Ever National Cinema Day

Mumbai, September 19 - The Multiplex Association of India (MAI) is expecting massive footfalls on India's first-ever National Cinema Day, scheduled this Friday, September 23. The association said that over 4000 screens - multiplex and single, across India will participate in NCD. ## An initiative of the MIA, the National Cinema Day will give the opportunity to the patrons to pay just Rs 75 per ticket and walk into any cinema of their choice to watch the movie along with other "special surprises" lined up for them. ## MAI President Kamal Gianchandani, who is also the CEO of PVR Pictures Ltd, said that participating cinema chains/screens include PVR, INOX, Cinepolis, Carnival, Miraj, City Pride, Asian, Mukta A2, Movietime, Wave, M2K, Delite, and even some single-screen operators, all over India.## "On average, there are 400 seats per auditorium, which makes around four million seats available in the country for filmgoers. From this, nearly 16,000 seats shall participate in the NCD", Gianchandani told IANS.## Along with the new films releasing on the day, some of the major films likely to be exhibited during the NCD, include KGF: Chapter 2, RRR, Vikram, Bhool Bhulaiya 2, or Hollywood big films like Doctor Strange, and Top Gun: Maverick. These are some of the globally appreciated films both critically and commercially and movie lovers can enjoy them on the big screen again on Sep. 23.## "The multiplexes may also make their own special offers, for people of all age groups, exclusions to welcome the people to the cinemas that day, but we can't reveal the details now", said Gianchandani.## He said that the NCD is intended to be a Thank You to the filmgoers who made it happen by returning to the cinemas after the two years of Coronavirus Pandemic closure, and a warm invitation to those who have still not made it to the local neighborhood movie-halls yet.## Gianchandani said the first quarter of the current fiscal notched up an impressive recovery for cinema operators in India after the covid-19 pandemic, and the NCD - which shall become an annual feature - will be a step forward in the direction.## Stay tuned...

Pulwama, September 18 - Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha inaugurated multipurpose cinema halls in the South Kashmir districts of Shopian and Pulwama, on Sunday and has assured that every district of Jammu and Kashmir will get cinema halls soon. ## The official handle of The Office of Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir made the announcement on Twitter. The tweet read, "A historic day for J&K UT! Inaugurated Multipurpose Cinema Halls at Pulwama and Shopian. It offers facilities ranging from movie screening, infotainment and skilling of youth".## On the first day, films like "RRR" and "Bhaag Mikha Bhaag" were shown to the audiences. "We will build such multipurpose cinema halls in every district of Jammu and Kashmir soon.
