IMDb Unveils Top 10 Most Anticipated Upcoming Indian Movies of 2024

Mumbai, July 23 - IMDb has unveiled the top 10 most anticipated upcoming Indian movies of 2024, and not so surprisingly, superstar Allu Arjun-fronted Pan India action drama Pushpa 2 - The Rule takes the first spot. ## Directed by Sukumar, the sequel to the 2021 movie Pushpa - The Rise, Pushpa 2 has been the talk of the town ever since the first part was released. Also starring Rashmika Mandanna and Fahadh Faasil, the blockbuster movie is scheduled to be released on December 6 in multiple languages.## The second most anticipated Indian movie of the year is superstar Jr. NTR's action drama, Devara: Part 1 which is again a Pan India title. It is directed by Koratala Siva and also stars Janhvi Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan in their Telugu debut. The movie is slated to hit the big screen on September 28. ## Akshay Kumar-fronted comedy entertainer, Welcome To The Jungle (Welcome 3) is the third most anticipated movie of 2024. The multi-starrer tentpole is currently scheduled to be released during the Christmas weekend, however, it is likely to be postponed to next year. ## Thalapathy Vijay's sci-fi action thriller, The Greatest of All-Time (GOAT) is the 4th most-anticipated Indian title of the year. Directed by Venkat Prabhu, GOAT is the second last movie of Vijay before he enters politics. It is scheduled to be released on September 5. Another hugely-awaited Pan India movie, Suriya's Kanguva takes the 5th spot in the list. Directed by Siva, the film is slated to debut on the big screen on October 10. Both movies will clash at the box office on Diwali this year. ## Actor Vikram's Tamil action-drama Thangalaan, directed by Pa. Ranjith is 8th on the list of the most-anticipated Indian title of 2024. The studio's next release is Shraddha Kapoor-fronted Stree 2, which is the 5th instalment in Maddock Supernatural Universe. It is scheduled to be released on August 15.## Meanwhile, Maddock Films is gearing up to launch the teasers of Akshay Kumar's action thriller Sky Force and Vicky Kaushal-starrer historical action drama Chhava directly in theatres with Stree 2 which is one of the most anticipated movies of the year and is easily to biggest for Maddock Films. ## Sky Force is directed by Sandeep Kewlani and Abhishek Anil Kapur. It is the 5th biggest opening weekend for a Bollywood title and 6th in Hindi in 2024. ## Bad Newz opened to the good collection with approximately 8.30 crores net, followed by a jump of over 20% on Saturday for 10.25 crores, and on Sunday, it collected approximately 11.15 crores net with a jump of around 8%. Mumbai, July 22 - After recently becoming the first animated film franchise to reach $5 billion globally, the sixth overall instalment in the Despicable Me franchise, Despicable Me 4 has surpassed $500 million at the worldwide box office and is heading towards the magical milestone of $1 billion. ## The sequel to Despicable Me 3 (2017), and the fourth main instalment, Despicable Me 4 grossed $75 million worldwide in its 5th weekend which soared its global cume to $574.4 million (4805 crores). This includes $259.5 million (2170 crores) in North America and $314.90 million (2635 crores) overseas. ## Despicable Me 4 has now overtaken the first Despicable Me’s lifetime global haul of $544 million, to become the franchise's fifth-biggest instalment. Hyderabad, July 21 - 7 years after scripting box office history with Baahubali 2 - The Conclusion, Pan India superstar Prabhas has done it again as his Kalki 2898 AD has become the 7th Indian movie and the second for the actor to enter the 1000 crores club at the worldwide box office. ## The sci-fi epic, directed by Nag Ashwin, has done what it was expected to achieve before its release on June 27. It took just 25 days for Kalki to breach the milestone of 1000 crores worldwide gross, making it the 3rd Telugu-origin title and 4th South Indian film to do so. ## Kalki 2898 AD scored an estimated 990 crores gross globally in the first 24 days and on its 4th Sunday (25th day), the movie added another estimated 12 crores gross, taking its worldwide cume to over the magical figure of the thousand crores gross. ## Including the 5th Sunday collection, the epic blockbuster has minted an estimated 733 crores gross in India and 270 crores overseas. Mumbai, July 21 - Director Nag Ashwin's sci-fi epic Kalki 2898 AD has become the third highest-grossing South Indian movie at the Hindi box office after beating SS Rajamouli's action drama RRR on its 25th day. ## The Prabhas-fronted blockbuster scored approximately 4.85 crores net collection on its 4th Sunday which took its total cume to approximately 276 crores net in 25 days to become the third biggest South Indian movie in the dubbed version.## SS Rajamouli and Prabhas' Baahubali 2 remains the top South Indian grosser in Hindi with approximately 511 crores net, followed by Yash-starrer KGF: Chapter 2 with 435 crores approx. Kalki 2898 AD is only the third South Indian movie to enter the 200 crores net club in Hindi.## Produced by Vyjayanthi Movies, Kalki has had an excellent run in the dubbed Hindi version which is heading towards finishing around 300 crores. Los Angeles, July 20 - Universal Pictures' Twisters, starring Glen Powell, is set to overcome the industry projection to score the record opening for a natural disaster film at the domestic (North American) box office. ## The movie, directed by Lee Isaac Chung, scored an estimated $80.50 million (675 crores) in the opening weekend, the third biggest of the year. With this, it has become the top opening domestically for a natural disaster film, beating the 2004 movie The Day After Tomorrow's $66.70 million (not adjusted for inflation). ## Twisters was projected to take the domestic opening of around $50 million. It is a standalone sequel to the 1996 film Twister which bowed to $41 million 3-day domestic opening weekend. The sequel has scored almost 2X the opening of its predecessor. ## According to The Hollywood Reporter, Twisters is playing evenly among females and males, as well as appealing to both younger and older adults in what could lead to a new franchise. There are nearly a dozen films already lined up to release on August 15 and some of them are potential big-money spinners.## The Hindi box office can see one of the biggest weekends of the year starting on Independence Day. Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao's horror-comedy Stree 2 is easily the most anticipated movie to release during the period, however, it won't have a smooth ride at the box office as there 5 other major films ready to compete with it. ## The biggest competitor of Stree 2 will be Akshay Kumar's comedy-drama Khel Khel Mein, which also stars Vaani Kapoor, Ammy Virk, Taapsee Pannu, Fardeen Khan, and Pragya Jaiswal, among others. Ranjith.## Apart from the Indian films, there is 20th Century Studios' science fiction horror film, Alien: Romulus is slated to hit the Indian cinemas this Independence Day. Mumbai, July 20 - The third season of Amazon Prime Video's rural comedy-drama Panchayat emerged as the most-watched Hindi show in the first half of 2024, beating big-budgeted shows like Heeramandi, and Indian Police Force.## According to Ormax Media, Panchyat Season 3 has generated 28.20 million views, becoming the most-watched Hindi language web series across streaming platforms in the first six months of 2024. Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Netflix show, Heeramandi and Rohit Shetty's Prime Video series, Indian Police Force, were the next two most-watched titles with 20.30 million and 19.50 million views, respectively. ## Disney Plus Hotstar, however, ruled the list of the top 10 most-watched Hindi shows in the first half of the year with five titles, which include The Legend of Hanuman (14.8 million), Showtime (12.5 million), Karma Calling (9.1 million), Baahubali: Crown of Blood (8 million), and Lootere (8 million).## Ormax Media estimates viewership using primary research conducted among audiences across India on a weekly basis.
