Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor's 'Bawaal' Hits Major Controversy

Mumbai, July 28 - Well-known Bollywood filmmaker Nitesh Tiwari's romantic drama "Bawaal" starring Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor was supposed to be an experimental love story in the backdrop of World War II but it is turning into a major controversial attempt on this historical chapter.## The film has been accused of trivializing and demeaning the deaths of millions of Jews killed during the Holocaust by using Auschwitz as a metaphor for relationship problems. Many critics in India and internationally have slammed the film for drawing parallels to Jews suffering in Auschwitz camp and dying. ## Produced by Nadiadwala Entertainment, "Bawaal" tells the story of a history teacher who is embarrassed by his new wife's epilepsy. As they travel together to Europe to visit historic second world war sites, they fall in love with each other.## The movie receives a strong rebuke from the Simon Wiesenthal Center (SWC), an NGO dedicated to the well-being of Jews as well as the Holocaust victims. The NGO has issued a statement demanding the removal of the film from Amazon Prime Video which is the exclusive streaming partner of the film. ## "Auschwitz is not a metaphor. It is the quintessential example of Man's capacity for Evil. By having the protagonist in this movie declare that 'Every relationship goes through their Auschwitz', Nitesh Tiwari, trivializes and demeans the memory of 6 million murdered Jews and millions of others who suffered at the hands of Hitler's genocidal regime", SWC said in a statement.## The NGO called on Amazon to remove the movie from its platform and to stop "monetizing" the Holocaust. "If the filmmaker's goal was to gain PR for their movie by reportedly filming a fantasy sequence at the Nazi death camp, he has succeeded. Amazon Prime should stop monetizing Bawaal by immediately removing this banal trivialization of the suffering and systematic murder of millions of victims of the Nazi Holocaust", the statement further read. Prime Video has not responded yet.## "Bawaal" was meant for theatrical release before makers changed their minds and send the movie directly to Amazon Prime Video. Ram Pothineni is reprising his lead role from the original movie and this time, the makers are making the movie for Pan India audiences.## Now, the makers have roped in Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt to play the antagonist role in the film as Big Bull. Margot Robbie-led "Barbie" and director Christopher Nolan's "Oppenheimer", two completely opposite films brought in over $15 million combined gross collection in their opening week in India. ## Nolan's atom bomb movie, "Oppenheimer" has been by far the biggest movie since its release in India with a gross collection of 87 crores ($10.5 million) in the first week. The movie had a fantastic opening weekend of 58 crores gross, before showing a very good hold during the weekdays to score approx. 29 crores gross from Monday to Thursday. ## "Oppenheimer" has already become the highest-grossing film of Nolan in India after beating his superhero movie "Batman: The Dark Knight Rises" in just 4 days. It will be crossing 100 crores gross during its second weekend and will become the second Hollywood movie of the month after "Mission Impossible 7" and 3rd of the year after "Fast X" to do so. ## Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling-starrer fantasy comedy film "Barbie" clocked 32.50 crores gross (~$4 million) in its first week at the Indian box office, and was the second most-watched movie during its week in India. Directed by Greta Gerwig, "Barbie" had a good opening weekend with 22 crores gross. It witnessed a drop on Monday but held extremely well since then to bring in another 10.50 crores (Mon-Thu).## The combined first-week collection of Barbenheimer (Barbie and Oppenheimer) is approx. 129 crores ($15.70 million) which is huge. It is the 6th biggest non-opening first Tuesday and again, the biggest for Warner Bros. of all time at the US box office. ## The total domestic gross of the movie stands at $214.10 million through Tuesday, and there is so much to look forward to before another rock-solid second weekend which is already projected to score over $70+ million. As said, before the second-weekend madness begins, Hollywood industry trackers are expecting another $23+ million Wednesday, which is remarkable. The full first 7-day week could well be over $255+ million before it hits $300 million on Saturday. ## "Barbie" is likely to top $1 billion at the global box office which will be the first for Warner Bros. since "Joker" (2019). CBFC Asks For Major Changes In Akshay Kumar-Starrer 'OMG 2': Report

Mumbai, July 26 - Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar's social comedy-drama "OMG 2" is scheduled to release on August 11 but the makers are yet to receive the censor certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).## It was recently reported that the Examining Committee (EC) of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) referred the Akshay Kumar-starrer to the Revising Committee (RC) due to its religious content. It has been reported that CBFC is being very careful about the movie as it feels "OMG 2" content is slightly controversial.## Now, according to Bollywood Hungama, the Revising Committee has suggested several changes in the films, which the makers are not comfortable with. "In all, the RC has asked for 20 cuts. These include both visual and audio deletions. On top of it, they have also suggested the makers opt for an adults-only certification", the report says.## The makers, however, are reportedly not ready for these many changes as they believe that it'll affect the essence of the film. They are also not okay with an "A" certificate. After all, they feel that the topic of sex education should be seen by people of all ages. ## The makers have been putting their efforts to get the movie censored as soon as possible so that they could release the trailer and have an on-scheduled release. After many hurdles, "Indian 2" resumed filming last year and it is now scheduled to release in 2024 in theaters worldwide in multiple languages, including Hindi. ## Now, according to Pinkvilla, the makers have turned "Indian" franchise into a trilogy. Both movies are being shot simultaneously.## It is said that the story and points, Shankar and Kamal Haasan are trying to make through the movie will have a huge impact on society. There are several subplots in the premise that can't be completed in one film and need two parts to reach a conclusion.## "Shankar had 6 hours of footage for Indian and on seeing it, the entire team felt that there is a lot of potential in the subject to warrant a sequel.
