Box Office: Punjabi Blockbuster Saunkan Saunkne First Week Collections

Mumbai, May 20 - It was an excellent week for the regional movies at the box office. Amid the biggies taking the center stage, the Punjabi movie "Saunkan Saunkne" and Marathi film "Dharmaveer" stood apart and scored blockbuster opening week. ## "Saunkan Saunkne", starring Ammy Virk, Sargun Mehta, and Nimrat Khaira in the leading roles, scored the second-highest opening week ever for a Punjabi movie with 16.40 crores net. "Shadaa" remains the biggest grosser with approx. 17 crore net. ## Directed by Amarjit Singh Saron, "Saunkan Saunkne" started excellently well and scored the biggest opening weekend with 9.65 crores net. The movie held really well over the weekdays, in fact, it was better than Bollywood biggie "Jayeshbhai Jordaar" in the first week, which is a phenomenal achievement for regional film. Overseas, "Saunkan Saunkne" grossed approx. 10.8 crores, pushing the total worldwide gross to excellent 30.10 crores. ## While "Saunkan Saunkne" has had a record-breaking opening week, Marathi film "Dharmaveer" wasn't too far and minted Rs. 13.87 crores net in over the opening week. The day-wise growth of the film at the box office was fantastic as it remained strong throughout the week. ## Directed by Pravin Tarde, the movie follows a larger-than-life messiah for thousands, Anand Dighe aka Dharmaveer. Mumbai, May 20 - Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar, who is gearing up for the release of his much-awaited "Prithviraj", has opened up on the ongoing language debate between Hindi and South Indian. ## Akshay's reaction came at a time when Bollywood superstar Ajay Devgn and Kannada star Kichcha Sudeepa recently indulge in a war of words over the Hindi language on Twitter. ## Akshay Kumar was asked to comment on this debated issue while he was promoting Prithviraj. "Why can't we be called one industry? Why are we being called the North and South industry? All our languages are good, we are talking in our mother tongues and we are all beautiful. Chennai, May 20 - Tamil star Sivakarathikeyan's "Don" has hit the ball out of the part in the first week. Directed by debutante Cibi Chakaravarthi, "Don" has proved the ever-growing fan following of Sivakarthikeyan, who has become a new sensation in the Tamil cinema. ## Produced by Lyca Productions, and Sivakarthikeyan Productions, "Don" scored Rs. 65.55 crores worldwide in the first week, which is the highest ever for Siva's movie. Domestically, the coming-of-age romantic comedy-drama film has grossed Rs. 52.55 crores, including Rs. 4.41 crores in Chennai city alone. ## "Don" took the opening of Rs. 9.30 crores net, biggest for Siva. It was connected well with the audience as they gave excellent reviews which transformed into a blockbuster opening weekend with Rs 31.3 crores net. It held super strong over the weekdays and earned Rs. 13.83 crores, pushing the total net collection to 45.13 crores, including Rs. 1.47 crores in Telugu. A Biopic Of Freedom Fighter Usha Mehta, 'Freedom Radio' Is Announced

Mumbai, May 20 - Filmmaker Anubhav Sinha has joined hands with Ketan Mehta ("Manjhi โ€“ The Mountain Man") to announce the biopic of freedom fighter and Gandhian, Usha Mehta. The movie, titled "Freedom Radio", will be produced by Sinha's Benaras Mediaworks with Mehta who will also be directing it.## Usha Mehta was a Gandhian and freedom fighter who ran an underground pirate radio called Congress Radio during the Quit India Movement and gave tough time to the British Government. Post-Independence, Usha Mehta was conferred with Padma Vibhushan, the second-highest civilian award in India.## In a media statement about the biopic, Ketan Mehta said, "Developing this story has been pure joy. Sifting through her personal diaries, and delving into my own memories have been a crucial part of my work. I couldn't have found a more supportive producer and collaborator than Anubhav who understands the vision of his filmmaker".## Talking about collaborating with Ketan Mehta, Anubhav Sinha said, "It's been a sheer joy working with Ketan on this project. Box Office Prediction of Kartik Aaryan's 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2' And Kangana Ranaut-Starrer 'Dhaakad'

Mumbai, May 19 - The struggle of Bollywood at the box office has been there for anyone to see. While other film industries are giving hits after hits, it is the Hindi film industry that is going through a dull phase post pandemic. Apart from a couple of films, all other Bollywood movies since last year have struggled to get good numbers at the box office. ## One of the major concerns for Bollywood is that their movies aren't opening to good numbers which used to be a cakewalk before the pandemic. Despite the star power, films like "Runway 34", "Jayeshbahi Jordaar", "Attack", and "Heropanti 2" failed to get the initials that have shocked the industry and made them think. However, the upcoming releases have reignited some hope and there is a positive vibe among the industry people. ## Kartik Aaryan's long-awaited horror-comedy "Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2" is opening this Friday and it seems to be the film to bet big at the moment. Directed by Anees Bazmee, the movie is the sequel to one of the best horror-comedy movies ever made in Bollywood - Bhool Bhulaiyaa which was released in 2007 and featured Akshay Kumar. ## "Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2", which also stars Kiara Advani, Tabu, and Rajpal Yadav in key roles, has created a decent amount of buzz. The advance booking, which was opened a couple of days ago, is among the best for this year and have already crossed 4 crores. As compared to the likes of "Gangubai Kathiawadi" and "Bachchhan Paadney", BB2 is expected to take the double-digit opening at the box office. Only "Bachchan Pandey" and "Gangubai Kathiawadi" have been able to take the opening of 10+ crores this year and BB2 is most likely to be the 3rd on the list. It is currently tracking to open between 9-11 crores. ## Along with "Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2", Kangana Ranaut-fronted "Dhaakad" is also releasing this Friday. Touted as one of the best female-led spy action-thriller movies in India, "Dhaakad" has been able to find itself in media headlines and makers seem to be confident about its success at the ticket window. ## Helmed by Razneesh Ghai in his directorial debut, "Dhaakad" is full of high-octane action sequences which will surely be liked by the mass audience. The advance booking for the same was opened just two days ahead of the release and is low as compared to that of BB2. Also starring Arjun Rampal and Divya Dutta, the movie should be able to open between 3-4 crores. The numbers could go higher if it gets good word of mouth, and then the weekend will be solid.## One of the best things about both, "Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2" and "Dhaakad" is that both films are going ahead with affordable ticket prices which wasn't the case with most of the recent movies.
