Netflix Prepone 'RRR' Hindi Premiere Date

Mumbai, May 19 - SS Rajamouli's global blockbuster "RRR" is all set for its digital premiere on ZEE5 and Netflix. While ZEE5 will stream South Indian versions, Netflix bought the Hindi streaming rights, and all the versions will be streaming on May 20. ## Earlier, Netflix had announced the "RRR" Hindi digital release on June 2, which has now been preponed to May 20th, coinciding with Jr. NTR's birthday. Tom Cruise Opens Up On Why 'Top Gun: Maverick' Wasn't Sent For Direct OTT Release

Cannes, May 19 - Tom Cruise, arguably one of the biggest movie stars in the world, has returned to the big screen with "Top Gun: Maverick", a sequel to his 1986's film. The movie smashed records box office records as it turned out to be the biggest opening ever for Tom Cruise with $126.7 million domestically and over $250 million worldwide.## "Top Gun: Maverick", directed by Joseph Kosinski, was supposed to release in July 2020, but was forced to postpone due to the covid-19 pandemic. It was later announced for a 2021 release which was also differed by the pandemic and now, and finally, it hit theaters on May 27th. ## During the pandemic, most of the films that were ready to release took the direct digital route. The cruise was also asked the question whether he ever thought of going online way to release the "Top Gun" sequel, as it was already delayed multiple times.## "That's not going to happen. Ever", Cruise had said during Cannes Film Festival (via Variety).## The audience at the Grand Palais' Debussy theater applauded loudly. Cruise explained further, "I've spent a lot of time with theater owners. The people that serve the popcorn, the ones who make this [happen]". The actor said he called movie theater owners with a message, "Please, I know what you're going through. Just know we are making 'Mission: Impossible' and 'Top Gun' is coming out".## While explaining his reasons, Cruise said that he doesn't design his movies to be streamed on Netflix or Amazon Prime. The movie also received a 5-minutes standing ovation from the crowd at the premiere. ## "An incredible evening and an incredible time. Just to see everyone's faces. It's been 36 years since Top Gun and we had to hold this for two years because of the pandemic", said Cruise to the crowd (via Deadline). ## Prior to receiving the Palme d'Or, the blockbuster actor was given a tribute reel before the film played. As a prelude, French fighter jets took the sky streaming blue, white, and red smoke. Netflix renewed the show for the second season after getting a thundering response worldwide, becoming the streamer's most profitable series ever. ## Ever since the second season of this blockbuster series has been announced, the fans are eager to know when it will debut. Many have been hoping it to release this year, but it looks like they will have to wait for a longer time as the series isn't coming until the end of 2023. ## Series creator Hwang Dong-hyuk told Vanity Fair that he predicts the next batch of episodes won't be ready for release until the end of 2023 at the earliest. The Vanity Fair report states, "[Hwang] only has about three pages' worth of ideas that he plans to turn into a script, so there isn't much he can say about season 2 except that there will be more games".## "Humanity is going to be put to a test through those games once again", Hwang said. The studios' first Disney Plus series was launched in 2021 in the form of "WandaVision", followed by "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier", "Loki", and "Hawkeye" in the same year. ## As per the earlier reports, it was revealed that Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany-starrer "WandaVision" was the most-watched Marvel series on Disney Plus. However, it has now been revealed by Marvel president Kevin Fiege at it is Tom Hiddleston's "Loki" Season 1 that is the most-watched Marvel series worldwide. ## Kevin Feige said that Loki was a "bold swing" and the "wild ride paid off". He also revealed that the production on the second season of "Loki" will start in the next few weeks with star Tom Hiddleston and the entire cast returning. "Loki" is the first Marvel series on Disney+ to get a second season. ## Loki is set in a Marvel Cinematic Universe-adjacent world, in which the God of Mischief (Hiddleston) is a fish-out-of-water when he lands in trouble with the bureaucratic Time Variance Authority after absconding with the Tesseract.## Meanwhile, among the most-watched Marvel series on Disney+, are "WandaVision" and "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier" at number 2 and 3, respectively after "Loki". However, Kevin Feige didn't reveal the viewership data of any series. ## Going forward, Marvel will launch three films and shows in the next three months. What is more surprising is that it has hit approx. 4 million viewing hours more in the 3rd week than in the second week. ## The movie debuted on Netflix on April 26 after completing its 8-week hit theatrical window and was the number 1 non-English movie worldwide with 13.8 million viewing hours, followed by 8.3 million viewing hours in the second week, lending at number 3. Surpassing all the expectations in the 3rd week (May 9 - May 15), the movie hit 12.2 million viewing hours. ## Gangubai Kathiawadi continues to trend worldwide on Netflix. Currently, it is trending in the top 10 in 23 countries while in week 2, it was trending in 20 nations. For the third week in a row, Gangubai Kathiawadi is the number 1 movie on Netflix in Pakistan, Bangladesh, Bahrain, and Kuwait, among others. ## Meanwhile, on the other hand, the Hindi version of Thalapathy Vijay's, Beast (Raw) debuted in the top 5 on the streamer with 4.8 million viewing hours. The original Tamil version hit 4.05 million viewing hours in the first five days. Anil Kapoor's, Thar, remained in the top 10 with 4.2 million viewing hours for a total of 7.8 million viewing hours. ## Prabhas-fronted, Radhe Shyam Hindi version was one more movie in the top 10. Mumbai, May 18 - It might sound strange or unbelievable to say that movies backed by OTT platforms going the theatrical way but it seems this is indeed going to happen as Netflix is considering releasing some movies in theaters this year with an exclusive theatrical window of 45 days. ## During the covid-19 pandemic, the popularity of streaming platforms has gone up exponentially. However, it looks like Netflix has understood what theaters bring as it is finally reportedly opening up more to the theatrical experience. ## Bloomberg's Lucas Shaw reported on Sunday that Netflix is considering releasing some movies in theaters this year with an exclusive theatrical window of 45 days. That's longer than the window Netflix has typically given the movies it releases in theaters, and more in line with what is emerging as a new windowing standard. ## One of the movies the streaming giant is considering bringing to theaters is Daniel Craig's "Knives Out" sequel. Scheduled to release in late 2022, "Knives Out 2" mystery film written and directed by Rian Johnson. It is the sequel to 2019's movie that was a surprise box-office hit, grossing $165 million in the US and $311 million worldwide in 2019 off of a $40 million production budget. ## This is not the first time Netflix is taking the theatrical route for its movies. Cibi Chakaravarthi's directorial debut, "Don" has been able to overcome the huge expectations of the fans and trade as it has crossed the 50 crores mark at the worldwide box office in just 4 days. ## The coming-of-age romantic comedy-drama film became the biggest opener for Sivakarthikeyan with 9.3 crores net on Friday. Over the 3-day opening weekend, the film scored 31+ crores net collection, which is the highest weekend total ever in Siva's career. The movie, fronted by Margot Robbie, is the first-ever live-action film based on the fashion doll after a series of animated films and television series. ## Simu Liu in a recent interview with GQ UK revealed that he had almost a zero idea about the movie when he agreed to audition for a role in the movie and revealed that it was a junior agent at his management customer who advised him to take up the movie after he told it is one of the best scripts ever. ## "He literally said this verbatim", Liu told. "He was like, 'If I could stake my career on any one script, it's the Barbie script. I really think you should do it". He said that he sent in a self-tape audition which led director Greta Gerwig to request an in-person meeting. ## Simu Liu, wanting to grab a role in the film, told the filmmaker about his dance history with a competitive hip-hop team. "She audibly guffawed, she giggle-screamed — and then I got the part", Liu said.## The "Shang-Chi" actor described "Barbie" as wild and incredibly unique, adding, "I wish I could just show you what we do day-to-day because it's crazy". The film is not a musical, but Liu said he's been in dance rehearsals aplenty for the movie. The actor also teased what it's like working on a Greta Gerwig set. "When you're doing a scene and it's working, you hear, 'HAHAHAHA!' It's the best feeling in the world.
