Los Angeles, February 26 - Marvel Studios and Disney's Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania secured the top spot at the domestic (North America) box office for the second consecutive week but suffered a record drop. ## The superhero movie, directed by Peyton Reed, grossed an estimated $32 million on the second weekend, dropping almost 70%. The movie witnessed the biggest-ever drop in the second weekend for a Marvel Cinematic Universe movie. The second on the list is "Black Panther" which dropped $44.7%. ## The total domestic gross collection of "Ant-Man 3" after the 2nd weekend reached $167.3 million. It had taken the opening of $106 million, the highest in the "Ant-Man" franchise. The lifetime collection of the film is projected to finish somewhere between $215 million - $245 million in North America. ## Meanwhile, the movie has crossed $300 million at the global box office after grossing approx. $79 million, including $46.4 million overseas in the second weekend. The total worldwide collection of the movie is now $364 million. The excitement got peaked when Hardy's Eddie Brock briefly appeared in the "Spider-Man: No Way Home" post-credit scene, after he and the Symbiote (Venom) had been transported to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. ## After "No Way Home", Sony Pictures announced that "Venom 3" was officially in the works. Pictures is going back to Middle-Earth to make multiple more Lord of the Rings films. ## According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. has brokered a multiyear deal with rights holders Embracer Group AB which allows the studio to develop more films based on J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings books and The Hobbit. ## Embracer Group, the Swedish gaming company, acquired the rights to produce LOTR films, games, merchandise, theme park attractions, and live productions when it purchased rights holder Middle-earth Enterprises last year from The Saul Zaentz Company. ## LOTR is one of the most successful film franchises in Hollywood. There have been a total of 3 films in the LOTR franchise, directed by Peter Jackson, with a combined gross collection of $2.9 billion. Jackson's follow-up trilogy based on Tolkien's "The Hobbit" which acts as a prequel to his The Lord of the Rings film trilogy, matched those grosses. ## Warner Bros. is yet to attach filmmakers to helm the upcoming LOTR films. Meanwhile, LOTR is not the only franchise that Warner Bros. is reviving. CEO David Zaslav previously said that he would like to make a deal with author J.K. Overseas, it has scored $1.59 billion over 52 markets. It is by far the biggest opening in the Ant-Man franchise, beating the second installment's $75.8 million opening. ## Overseas, the Peyton Reed-directed flick grossed a strong $121.3 million opening weekend over 52 markets. Los Angeles, February 18 - On the day of the "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania" release, Disney has officially postponed the release date of Marvel Studios' "The Marvels", starring Brie Larson. ## The superhero movie, which was supposed to release on July 28, will now be hitting big screens on November 10, 2023, which is where Black Panther: Wakanda Forever opened last year. Previously, MCU's "Thor: Ragnarok" and "Doctor Strange" were also released in the same month and had a big success. ## "The Marvels", which is directed by Nia DaCosta, is the sequel to the $1.1 billion grossing 2019 title "Captain Marvel". Los Angeles, February 15 - The Hollywood film industry is gearing up for a long celebration throughout this summer with tentpole titles, starting with Marvel Studios' "Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania". ## Directed by Peyton Reed, "Ant-Man 3" is kicking start Marvel Cinematic Universe's (MCU) Phase 5, and the early box office tracking shows a bumper opening for the movie. As revealed earlier and according to Deadline, the threequel is tracking to earn $95 million to $100 million in a 3-day opening weekend at 4300 theaters at the domestic (North America) box office. ## The superhero movie's projected opening will make it the biggest domestic opener for the Ant-Man franchise. The first film in the series, "Ant-Man" (2015) opened at $57 million, followed by "Ant-Man and the Wasp" (2018) at $76 million opening weekend. ## Overseas, "Ant-Man 3" is heading towards $160 million - $170 million in the 5-day weekend, starting from Wednesday. The worldwide opening of the film is looking at $260 million - $280 million, which will be the biggest start in the "Ant-Man" franchise. "Ant-Man 2" bowed to $245 million worldwide in 2018 while the original "Ant-Man" did $166 million in 2015.## According to Deadline, domestic advance ticket sales for "Ant-Man 3" is currently tracking 15% behind "Thor: Love and Thunder", which opened to $144 million over three days.
