'Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania' Projected To Take Biggest Global Start At The Box Office For 'Ant-Man' Franchise

Los Angeles, February 15 - The Hollywood film industry is gearing up for a long celebration throughout this summer with tentpole titles, starting with Marvel Studios' "Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania".
Directed by Peyton Reed, "Ant-Man 3" is kicking start Marvel Cinematic Universe's (MCU) Phase 5, and the early box office tracking shows a bumper opening for the movie. As revealed earlier and according to Deadline, the threequel is tracking to earn $95 million to $100 million in a 3-day opening weekend at 4300 theaters at the domestic (North America) box office.
The superhero movie's projected opening will make it the biggest domestic opener for the Ant-Man franchise. The first film in the series, "Ant-Man" (2015) opened at $57 million, followed by "Ant-Man and the Wasp" (2018) at $76 million opening weekend.
Overseas, "Ant-Man 3" is heading towards $160 million - $170 million in the 5-day weekend, starting from Wednesday. The worldwide opening of the film is looking at $260 million - $280 million, which will be the biggest start in the "Ant-Man" franchise. "Ant-Man 2" bowed to $245 million worldwide in 2018 while the original "Ant-Man" did $166 million in 2015.
According to Deadline, domestic advance ticket sales for "Ant-Man 3" is currently tracking 15% behind "Thor: Love and Thunder", which opened to $144 million over three days. Since there is no wide release from rival studios this weekend, Disney has all the Imax (400 auditoriums), PLF (about 900), Dbox (280), and 3D screens (2,500) to make the most of it.
"Ant-Man 3" will also be the first Marvel movie to release in China with a domestic debut since "Avengers: Endgame" and Sony/Marvel's "Spider-Man: Far From Home" in 2019 (the latter having gone a week early). China being the biggest movie market in the world, is projected to bring in $35 million - $55 million in the opening weekend for "Ant-Man 3".
