Box Office: 'Raayan' Scores Biggest Opening For Dhanush

Chennai, July 27 - Tamil action thriller Raayan has had an excellent start at the domestic box office with approximately 15.75 crores gross collection. It is now the biggest opening for actor Dhanush, beating his previous high of approximately 12 crore gross with Karnan in 2021. ## At the overseas box office, the A-rated title scored approximately 7.25 crores gross, for approximately 23 crores worldwide on opening day, again the biggest for the actor beating Captain Miller which scored approximately 14 crores gross.## The domestic box office of 15.75 crores of Raayan includes approximately 10.60 crores in Tamil Nadu which is again the biggest for the actor in the state. The Telugu version of the movie also fared decently with approximately 2 crores gross in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, followed by 1.80 crores in Karnataka, 90 lakh in Kerala and 40 lakh in the rest of India market.## It is the second biggest opening for a Tamil movie of 2024, behind only Kamal Haasan's Indian 2 which scored 30.25 crores gross in India and 56.25 crores worldwide on the opening day. Kochi, July 24 - Thalapathy Vijay's mega-stardom has once again shaken Kerala's trade with the record-breaking theatrical deal for his upcoming movie The Greatest of All-Time. Gokulam Movies, the leading distribution studio in Kerala has grabbed theatrical rights of the movie. ## According to the Kerala film industry tracker AB George, GOAT Kerala theatrical rights have been sold for 17 crore which is a record deal for a non-Malayalam movie. The previous record also belonged to Vijay when his Leo was sold for 16 crores and it was also bought by Gokulam Movies. ## Thalapathy Vijay is arguably the biggest non-Malayalam superstar in Kerala with an incredible box office pull. Leo, which was released in October last year, did wonders at the Kerala box office by grossing approximately 60 crores which is a record for a Tamil title in the state. ## Talking about GOAT, it is a science fiction action film directed by Venkat Prabhu and produced by AGS Entertainment. Chennai, July 24 - Amid the speculations of which film, between Prabhas-fronted Salaar 2 and Jr. NTR-starrer Dragon (NTR 31) director Prashanth Neel will start next, a new report has emerged that the blockbuster filmmaker is already in talks with Tamil superstar Ajith Kumar for not one but two movies. ## Earlier this year, it was reported that Neel would be collaborating with Ajith Kumar for a standalone movie, and now, according to the report by DT Next, the duo may also do one more film in Prashanth Cinematic Universe which could pave the way for Yash-fronted KGF: Chapter 3.## "Ajith and Prashanth had a meeting during the Vidaa Muyarchi schedule break last month. Prashanth has asked over three years of Ajith's time. Their first collaboration, which could be AK 64, will be a standalone project. This will go on floors in 2025 and be released in 2026", says the report.## The report further said that Hombale Films will bankroll both projects and the climax of the second film will lead to KGF 3 and Ajith Kumar's character is touted to be the biggest of them in Prashanth Cinematic Universe. ## It is, however, to be noted that neither Prashanth Neel nor Hombale Films have confirmed the existence of the Prashanth Cinematic Universe. However, there have been many reports and speculations along with fan theories which suggest there might be this KGF universe where its characters might collide at some point. Chennai, July 17 - Vijay Sethupathi's action thriller Maharaja has had a strong debut on Netflix after the excellent box office performance which saw it becoming the first Tamil movie of 2024 to top 100 crores gross worldwide. ## The film, directed by Nithilan Swaminathan, started streaming on Netflix on July 12, four weeks after its theatrical release on June 14. Chennai, July 15 - Kamal Haasan's vigilante action thriller Indian 2 topped 100 crores gross at the worldwide box office in its opening weekend and has become the highest-grossing Tamil movie of 2024, beating Vijay Sethupathi's actioner Maharaja in just three 3 days.## Directed by S. Shankar, Indian 2 witnessed a continuous drop over the weekend due to mixed to negative word of mouth, but did enough to cross 100 crores worldwide. In India, the movie grossed an estimated 69+ crores gross and overseas, it minted an estimated 40 crores, for 109+ crores worldwide cume, beating Maharaja (105 crores gross approx.). ## Despite the 100+ crores opening weekend, Indian 2 somehow performed underwhelmingly as it was projected to score 100 crore weekend at the domestic box office alone. The movie's 69 crores domestic collection includes an estimated 35.50+ crores in Tamil Nadu and 17 crores in Telugu states.## Language-wise, the original Tamil version grossed an estimated 48.50+ crores, followed by 16+ crores in Telugu, and 4.50+ crores collection in Hindi. The not-so-encouraging word of mouth did dent the movie's business in all areas.## Indian 2 will need to perform well during the weekdays to emerge a success. Shankar, scored the biggest opening of 2024 for a Tamil movie at the domestic and worldwide box office by a long margin. ## The sequel to the 1996 film Indian, Indian 2 grossed an estimated 30.25 crores in India and 26 crores overseas for 56.25 crores worldwide on opening day. It has beaten Dhanush's Captain Miller, which scored approximately 14 crores on its opening day, to become the biggest Tamil opener of the year.## With the opening day collection, Indian 2 became the 6th highest-grossing Tamil film of 2024 at the domestic as well as worldwide box office, and with the second-day box office figures, it has become the third biggest grosser after Maharaja (104 crores gross approx.) and Aranmanai 4 (99 crores gross approx.) worldwide. ## Indian 2 stars Kamal Haasan, reprising his role as Senapathy, an ageing freedom fighter turned vigilante who fights against corruption, leading a massive ensemble which also includes Siddharth, S. Los Angeles, July 11 - Kamal Haasan's vigilante action film Indian 2 is set for a good start at the domestic as well as the worldwide box office. The pre-sales of the movie have been picking up with just a day to go before the release which is July 12. ## Apart from the domestic pre-sales, Shankar's directorial movie has managed to generate good advance sales for the North American premiere. According to Venky Box Office, the NA premiere pre-sales of Indian 2 is $650K (5.45 crores), including $580K (4.85 crores) in the USA alone after the big jump yesterday.## In the USA, Indian 2 has sold approximately 28K tickets from over 1450 shows at 484 locations for the premiere which is on tomorrow. The movie is heading for an all-time top 5 premiere day for a Tamil title and the biggest for Kamal Haasan and director Shankar. ## Meanwhile, at the Indian box office, Indian 2 has so far scored approximately 10+ crores gross pre-sales (with block seats) in all versions for the opening day. It has surpassed horror-comedy, Aranmanai 4 which fell a little short of the 100 crores mark at an estimated around 99 crores. ## Directed by Nithilan Swaminathan, Maharaja cleared the 100 crores worldwide gross in its third weekend in which it grossed approximately 4.50 crores, despite Kalki 2898 AD having a strong debut in Tamil Nadu with over 20 crores gross. ## After 17 days, the total domestic collection of Maharaja is an estimated 76+ crores gross while the overseas total is around 24 crores, for 100+ crores worldwide cume. Hyderabad, June 22 - Pan India superstar Prabhas-fronted sci-fi epic Kalki 2898 AD is set to hit the big screens on June 27 amid massive expectations. The second trailer, which was launched on June 21, has raised excitement among the fans and trade which is expecting the movie to do wonders at the box office. ## Directed by Nag Ashwin, Kalki 2898 AD has managed to do a huge worldwide theatrical business as the makers locked record deals for all major areas. According to T2BLive.com, the worldwide business of the film has been valued at 370 crores with a break-even target is 372 crores. ## Kalki will need to score over 700 crores gross collection to emerge as a clean hit and if it does not reach its target mark, the makers will need to return the balance amount to buyers to make for their losses, however, the film is expected to project to become one of the biggest blockbusters of Indian cinema.## In Telugu states (Andhra Pradesh and Telangana), Kalki 2898 AD theatrical business has been valued at 168 crores, including 65 crores in Nizam, 27 crores in Ceeded, 21 crores in UA, 14 and 10 crores in East and West, respectively, 12 crores each for Guntur and Krishna and 7 crores for Nallore area.
