Vijay Sethupathi's Box Office Blockbuster 'Maharaja' Becomes Third Most Watched Indian Movie of 2024 On Netflix

Chennai, August 7 - Vijay Sethupathi's action thriller Maharaja has emerged as the third most-watched Indian movie of 2024 on Netflix. The Nithilan Swaminathan's directorial was originally released in theatres and emerged as a big box office blockbuster by grossing over 100 crores worldwide.

Maharaja debuted on Netflix on July 12, four weeks after the blockbuster theatrical release. It scored 3.20 million views in the opening weekend on Netflix, followed by a huge 6.10 million views in the second week (July 15-21), and another 3.60 million views during the week of July 22-28.



In the fourth week (July 29 - August 4), the movie generated 2.60 million views, pushing its total viewership to 15.50 million views in 24 days. This makes it the third most-watched Indian title of 2024 on the streamer, behind only Laapataa Ladies (17.10 million views) and Crew (17.90 million views) and by far the most-watched South Indian title of the year.

Maharaja will most likely become Netflix's top-viewed Indian movie of the year by next week which will be a huge achievement for a regional Indian title after its blockbuster theatrical success.

Produced by The Route, Think Studios, and Passion Studios, Maharaja was released on June 14 to all-around praise from critics and audiences alike. It soon became the talk of the town which resulted in big success at the box office, grossing over 105 crores worldwide so far as the third highest-grossing Tamil title of the year.

The film stars Vijay Sethupathi in the titular role, alongside Anurag Kashyap, Mamta Mohandas, Natarajan Subramaniam, Abhirami Gopikumar, Singampuli, Aruldoss, Munishkanth, Sachana Namidass, Manikandan, and Bharathiraja in key roles.
