Box Office: 'Raayan' Becomes First Tamil Movie of 2024 To Top 100 Crore Gross In India

Chennai, August 10 - Tamil star Dhanush's action thriller Raayan continues its blockbuster run at the domestic and worldwide box office. Written, directed, and headlined by Dhanush, Raayan has been one of the biggest Tamil hits of the year and it has now reached a new milestone.## The A-rated action blockbuster has become the first Tamil movie of 2024 to reach the 100 crores gross collection mark at the Indian box office. The movie grossed approximately 98.50 crores in 15 days and at the time of penning this piece, it has crossed the milestone of 100 crores gross in India within 16 days.## Raayan is already the biggest Tamil grosser of the year domestically by beating Kamal Haasan's Indian 2 which flopped at approximately 96 crores gross collection. Zee Studios To Release Thalapathy Vijay's 'GOAT' In North India

Mumbai, August 8 - Thalapathy Vijay's highly-anticipated sci-fi action thriller The Greatest of All-Time will be released by Zee Studios in North India. The movie is directed by Venkat Prabhu and produced by AGS Entertainment.## Zee Studio, one of the leading production and distribution studios in the country, announced on Thursday that it would release GOAT across North Indian states in all languages, including Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu. Chennai, August 7 - Vijay Sethupathi's action thriller Maharaja has emerged as the third most-watched Indian movie of 2024 on Netflix. The Nithilan Swaminathan's directorial was originally released in theatres and emerged as a big box office blockbuster by grossing over 100 crores worldwide.## Maharaja debuted on Netflix on July 12, four weeks after the blockbuster theatrical release. It scored 3.20 million views in the opening weekend on Netflix, followed by a huge 6.10 million views in the second week (July 15-21), and another 3.60 million views during the week of July 22-28. ## In the fourth week (July 29 - August 4), the movie generated 2.60 million views, pushing its total viewership to 15.50 million views in 24 days. Chennai, July 30 - The Tamil Film Producers Council has made some sensational decisions regarding the functioning of Tamil films and actors. As per reports, TFPC has decided to hold the shootings of the new Tamil movies after August 15. ## It is learned that many producers have complained about actors' negligence towards completing the films despite taking advance payment. Box Office: Dhanush's 'Raayan' Scored Excellent First Weekend Worldwide

Chennai, July 29 - Tamil star Dhanush scored a much deserving success with his latest action thriller Raayan after the excellent 3-day opening weekend at the worldwide box office. The A-rated blockbuster scored close to 70 crores gross collection, already one of the highest-grossing Tamil movies of the year.## Directed and headlined by Dhanush, Raayan witnessed a continued jump over the weekend at the domestic box office, which is not a regular case for South Indian films. With approximately 49 crores gross collection, the movie scored the second biggest opening weekend for a Tamil title of 2024, behind only Indian 2. ## In Tamil Nadu, Raayan minted approximately 34 crores gross, followed by approximately 5.50+ crores in Telugu states (Andhra Pradesh and Telengana). The rest of the domestic market contributed approximately 10 crores gross collection. ## At the overseas box office, the movie has had a superb weekend with approximately 22 crores gross. Chennai, July 27 - Tamil action thriller Raayan has had an excellent start at the domestic box office with approximately 15.75 crores gross collection. It is now the biggest opening for actor Dhanush, beating his previous high of approximately 12 crore gross with Karnan in 2021. ## At the overseas box office, the A-rated title scored approximately 7.25 crores gross, for approximately 23 crores worldwide on opening day, again the biggest for the actor beating Captain Miller which scored approximately 14 crores gross.## The domestic box office of 15.75 crores of Raayan includes approximately 10.60 crores in Tamil Nadu which is again the biggest for the actor in the state. Prashanth Neel To Collaborate With Ajith Kumar For Two Back-To-Back Films: Report

Chennai, July 24 - Amid the speculations of which film, between Prabhas-fronted Salaar 2 and Jr. NTR-starrer Dragon (NTR 31) director Prashanth Neel will start next, a new report has emerged that the blockbuster filmmaker is already in talks with Tamil superstar Ajith Kumar for not one but two movies. ## Earlier this year, it was reported that Neel would be collaborating with Ajith Kumar for a standalone movie, and now, according to the report by DT Next, the duo may also do one more film in Prashanth Cinematic Universe which could pave the way for Yash-fronted KGF: Chapter 3.## "Ajith and Prashanth had a meeting during the Vidaa Muyarchi schedule break last month. Prashanth has asked over three years of Ajith's time. Their first collaboration, which could be AK 64, will be a standalone project. This will go on floors in 2025 and be released in 2026", says the report.## The report further said that Hombale Films will bankroll both projects and the climax of the second film will lead to KGF 3 and Ajith Kumar's character is touted to be the biggest of them in Prashanth Cinematic Universe. ## It is, however, to be noted that neither Prashanth Neel nor Hombale Films have confirmed the existence of the Prashanth Cinematic Universe. Chennai, July 15 - Kamal Haasan's vigilante action thriller Indian 2 topped 100 crores gross at the worldwide box office in its opening weekend and has become the highest-grossing Tamil movie of 2024, beating Vijay Sethupathi's actioner Maharaja in just three 3 days.## Directed by S. Shankar, Indian 2 witnessed a continuous drop over the weekend due to mixed to negative word of mouth, but did enough to cross 100 crores worldwide. In India, the movie grossed an estimated 69+ crores gross and overseas, it minted an estimated 40 crores, for 109+ crores worldwide cume, beating Maharaja (105 crores gross approx.). ## Despite the 100+ crores opening weekend, Indian 2 somehow performed underwhelmingly as it was projected to score 100 crore weekend at the domestic box office alone. The movie's 69 crores domestic collection includes an estimated 35.50+ crores in Tamil Nadu and 17 crores in Telugu states.## Language-wise, the original Tamil version grossed an estimated 48.50+ crores, followed by 16+ crores in Telugu, and 4.50+ crores collection in Hindi. Chennai, July 13 - Veteran actor Kamal Haasan's Indian 2 has had a good opening at the worldwide box office with 56+ crores gross collection which includes 30+ crores from the domestic market, making it the second biggest start for an Indian movie of 2024. ## Directed by Shankar, Indian 2, however, got criticism for its lengthy runtime which is 3 hours and upon feedback from audiences, the makers have now decided to trim 20 minutes to make it 2 hours and 40 minutes film. The shortened version will now be played in theatres starting today. ## Indian 2 is the sequel to the 1996 film, Indian which was a big success. Kamal Haasan reprises his role as Senapathy, an ageing freedom fighter turned vigilante who fights against corruption, leading a massive ensemble which also includes Siddharth, S. J. Lyca Productions Confirms Release Date of Kamal Haasan and Director Shankar's 'Indian 3'

Chennai, July 12 - One of the most anticipated movies of the year, Indian 2 starring Kamal Haasan finally hits the big screen on July 12 after going through many delays and postponements due to unavoidable circumstances over the last few years. ## Directed by Shankar, Indian 2 is the sequel to his 1996 vigilante action thriller with Haasan, and as known to everyone, the sequel has been split into two parts. Kamal Haasan's 'Indian 2' Opening Day Box Office Expectations

Mumbai, July 11 - Legendary Kamal Haasan and director Shankar reunited for the sequel to their vigilante action film Indian (1996). Indian 2 has been one of the most anticipated movies of the year which can be seen in the pre-sales. ## The advance sales of Indian 2 started a couple of days ago and as of 9 PM on July 11, it scored approximately 15 crores gross pre-sales (with block seats) for the opening day in India. The original Tamil version is leading the sales with over 10 crores gross, followed by the Telugu version.## Indian 2 has already become the biggest Tamil opener of 2024 with advance sales only, and considering the trend, it is heading for 35+ crores gross start in India which could go towards 40 crores depending on word of mouth for all versions. ## The Hindi version (Hindustani 2) of the movie, however, is expected to take a low start. The Hindi version pre-sales are currently approx. 30 lakh which indicates an opening in the range of 2 crore net (2.50 crores gross). It could go a little higher if WOM is positive but the competition with Akshay Kumar's Sarfira and holdover Kalki 2898 AD could dent its growth during the day. It will be released on nearly 2000 screens in Hindi. ## Indian 2 is expected to take the worldwide opening of 55+ crores gross which will be a fantastic start for the movie. Los Angeles, July 11 - Kamal Haasan's vigilante action film Indian 2 is set for a good start at the domestic as well as the worldwide box office. The pre-sales of the movie have been picking up with just a day to go before the release which is July 12. ## Apart from the domestic pre-sales, Shankar's directorial movie has managed to generate good advance sales for the North American premiere. According to Venky Box Office, the NA premiere pre-sales of Indian 2 is $650K (5.45 crores), including $580K (4.85 crores) in the USA alone after the big jump yesterday.## In the USA, Indian 2 has sold approximately 28K tickets from over 1450 shows at 484 locations for the premiere which is on tomorrow. The movie is heading for an all-time top 5 premiere day for a Tamil title and the biggest for Kamal Haasan and director Shankar. ## Meanwhile, at the Indian box office, Indian 2 has so far scored approximately 10+ crores gross pre-sales (with block seats) in all versions for the opening day. Hindi Box Office Success of Prabhas-Fronted 'Kalki 2898 AD' Inspired Early Release of Suriya's 'Kanguva'

Chennai, July 10 - Tamil star Suriya's fantasy action thriller Kanguva with director Siva is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated movies of the year and the makers are leaving no stone unturned to make it a proper Pan India tentpole. ## The makers have been careful about Kanguva's release and were looking to bring it on the big screen after Allu Arjun's Pushpa 2 - The Rule which is scheduled to release on December 6 this year. However, the success of the recently released Prabhas-fronted sci-fi epic Kalki 2898 AD changed everything. ## During a recent interview, Kanguva producer KE Gnanavel Raja of Studio Green opened up that he was looking to postpone the movie further to the next year but then Kalki 2898 AD happened and made him change his mind due to its strong box office performance in North India. ## "I didn't sleep for three days ahead of Kalki 2898 AD's release. Because its success or failure will directly impact every South film released in the North. The trust of the audience and trade would have gone away from South films that are released in Hindi if Kalki hadn't worked", the filmmaker told Galatta Plus. ## Kalki 2898 AD, directed by Nag Ashwin, has been a force at the Hindi box office. It has already become the biggest grosser of the year in Hindi with over 225 crores net collection and still going strong while worldwide, the movie is nearing 900 crores gross.## "I announced the release date for Kanguva the day Kalki was released after it started performing well in Hindi-speaking states. Otherwise, I would have waited for the release of Pushpa 2 to bring back the positivity. As a producer, I need to find the right time to release, devise the right promotional strategy, and ensure the quality of the content", KE Gnanavel Raja added.## Kanguva is scheduled to be released on October 10, 2024, in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada.
