After Box Office, Vijay Sethupathi's 'Maharaja' Debuts On Netflix With Strong 3.2 Million Views

Chennai, July 17 - Vijay Sethupathi's action thriller Maharaja has had a strong debut on Netflix after the excellent box office performance which saw it becoming the first Tamil movie of 2024 to top 100 crores gross worldwide.

The film, directed by Nithilan Swaminathan, started streaming on Netflix on July 12, four weeks after its theatrical release on June 14. In its opening weekend (July 12 - July 14), Maharaja scored a strong 3.2 million views and was the 4th most-watched non-English movie on Netflix during the same week.



Maharaja had one of the biggest opening weekends for an Indian movie of 2024 on the streamer, beating the likes of Bade Miyan Chote Miyan (2.9 million views) and Laapataa Ladies (2.2 million views), and on par with Ajay Devgn's Shaitaan (3.2 million views), among others.

The movie has been trending in the top 10 in 14 countries, including number 1 in India, Sri Lanka, and United Arab Emirates. The word of mouth for the movie is exceptional which should lead to a jump in viewership in the coming days to make it one of the most-watched Tamil movies ever on this platform.
