Late Puneeth Rajkumar's Eyes Give Sight To Four Young Patients
Bangalore, November 2 - It has been three days since Kannada superstar, Puneeth Rajkumar's death due to the sudden cardiac arrest and he left for heavenly abode at 46. After the tragic death of a talented actor, his eyes were donated, and now, his eyes have given a new lease of life to four young people. ## Rajkumar's eyes were successfully planted to four people, including 3 males and 1 female. However, in order to abide by the rules and protect the privacy of the patients, much details on them weren't disclosed by the hospital, except that all four are between the age of 20 and 30. ## Each eye of the late actor was used to treat two patients. The superior and deeper layers of the cornea were separated. The superior layer was transplanted to two patients who had the superficial corneal disease, and only the deeper layer was transplanted to patients with endothelial or deep corneal layer disease. This, according to the hospital, is quite a rare occurrence.## "All four patients are in between 20 and 30 years of age. They were on the waiting list for over 6 months now. Due to Covid-19, eye donations had stopped completely. Earlier, we used to do at least 200 transplant surgeries per month in our hospital. Things are getting better for the past 2-3 months. But the waiting list is long. So we made the best use of available eyes and instead of two, we were able to do the successful transplant in 4 patients," said Dr. Bhujang Shetty, Chairman, Narayana Nethralaya to News18.## Puneeth Rajkumar was active in many humanitarian works. He was bearing the cost of over 1800 students and was running 26 Orphanages, and 16 Old age homes. He had also provided medical help to many people over the years.
