Mumbai, January 4 - Recently, it was reported that producer Karan Johar with director Shashank Khaitan is working on the third instalment of their blockbuster romantic-comedy franchise, Dulhania, but with a change in the cast. ## It was reported that Alia Bhatt will not be returning to Dulhania 3 as the makers want a new face to romance Varun Dhawan, and now, according to Peepingmoon.com, the changes are indeed happening as Janhvi Kapoor has been roped in for the female lead role this time. ## Shashank Khaitan will also be returning to direct the next film in the series and it is expected to go on floors later this year. Earlier, it was reported that Varun Dhawan would start Dulhania 3 after finishing his father, David Dhawan's comic entertainer, but the latest report suggests that he will shoot both films simultaneously. ## Varun Dhawan is currently shooting for Atlee's production venture, scheduled to release in May this year. ## Dulhania 3 (tentative title) will mark the reunion of Varun and Janhvi, after Bawaal, which was released on Amazon Prime Video last year. Hyderabad, January 3 - Superstar Prabhas is basking on the success of his action drama Salaar: Part 1 - Ceasefire, directed by Prashanth Neel. The movie, which also stars Prithviraj Sukumaran, was promised a two-part story, and the first part ended with a cliffhanger which sets the stage for a big face-off between Prabhas and Sukumaran. ## The title of the film's second part, Salaar: Part 2 – Shouryaanga Parvam was revealed in the climax of the first part and now, the producer Vijay Kiragandur of Hombale Films has revealed details about the release of the second part. ## During an interview with Pinkvilla, the producer revealed that the script of Salaar 2 is ready and the team is in the process of starting it any time. He further said that he along with Prabhas and Prashanth Neel have been discussing Salaar 2 in the last few days as the actor and director are keen to start it soon. ## Vijay Kiragandur has promised that Salaar 2 will be released in 2025 as they want to make it in the next 15 months. "Salaar 1 is just a glimpse of part two. You can treat it as a trailer and part two will be a lot bigger in terms of action and scale. Salaar 2 will be like Game of Thrones with a lot of drama, politics, and action", he added. ## Prabhas, meanwhile, is currently shooting for director Maruthi's horror movie, tentetivaly titled Raja Deluxe. Mumbai, January 3 - Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan bossed his comeback year, 2023 with three back-to-back big successes. After opening the year with Pathaan, King Khan concluded 2023 on a good note with Dunki for which he collaborated with maverick director Rajkumar Hirani for the first time. ## In 2023, Shah Rukh Khan's three movies combined grossed over 2600 crores gross collection at the worldwide box office, making him the only Indian actor to score more than 2500 crores in a single year as the superstar was in no mood to hold back. ## It all began with Pathaan, directed by Siddharth Anand. The movie brought SRK back to his best after more than 4 years of exile. Produced by Yash Raj Films, the spy action thriller opened to huge numbers and went to cross 600 crores gross domestically and close to 400 crores overseas for approximately 1055 crores worldwide. ## Pathaan became the first 1000 crore grosser of SRK, he quickly followed this historic blockbuster with another massive hit, Jawan which bettered the numbers of Pathaan and finished 2023 as the highest Indian grosser of the year. In India, the Atlee-directed action drama grossed 760 crores and made 400 crores at the overseas box office, for 1160 crores worldwide figures. It made SRK the first and only Indian actor to deliver two 1000 crore grossers and that too in the same year. ## After two out-and-out action entertainers, SRK returned with a comedy-drama Dunki with director Rajkumar Hirani who has had a history of delivering blockbusters. Mumbai, January 3 - Netflix released its weekly viewership chart and Zack Snyder's sci-fi epic Rebel Moon — Part One: A Child of Fire stayed on top for the second week in a row worldwide by a huge margin. ## The over $160 million budgeted flick, despite the poor reviews, has crossed 50 million views and over 100 million viewing hours in the first 10 days. After debuting at number 1 with 54.1 million viewing hours from 23.9 million views, the movie scored 77 million viewing hours from 34 million views in the week of December 25 - December 31, 2023. ## The total viewership of "Rebel Moon" is 131.1 million viewing hours from 57.9 million views in the first 10 days. The numbers are good considering the poor reviews from critics at 24% and the average response from audiences at 60% on Rotten Tomatoes.## Starring Sofia Boutella, the film is set in a fictional galaxy ruled by the imperialistic Motherworld, whose military, the Imperium, threatens a farming colony on the moon of Veldt. Kora, a former Imperium soldier, ventures on a quest to recruit warriors from across the galaxy to make a stand against the Imperium before they return to Veldt. ## Meanwhile, the coming-of-age Bollywood drama film Kho Gaye Hum Kahan debuted at number 4 in the non-English category with 6.3 million viewing hours from 2.8 million views in its first weekend. The movie is riding on positive reviews and is expected to see viewership jumping in the coming days. ## Directed by debutante Arjun Varain Singh and produced by Excel Entertainment and Tiger Baby Films, the film stars Siddhant Chaturvedi, Ananya Panday, and Adarsh Gourav as three friends who navigate their goals and relationships against the pressures of social media.## Nimrit Kaur and Radhika Madan's Sajini Shinde Ka Viral Video also remained in the top 10 for the second week in a row at Netflix. It is the first 500 crores grosser for Prabhas since "Baahubali 2" (2017); overall, it is his 3rd. ## The Prashanth Neel's directorial blockbuster has kicked off 2024 by keeping the film's blockbuster run continuing as it has now become the 5th biggest Indian grosser of 2023 at the domestic box office. It has beaten the likes of "Jailer" starring superstar Rajinikanth and "Leo"-led by Thalapathy Vijay. ## The action drama film scored approximately 16.35 crores net collection in all versions on its 11th day, pushing the total collection to 361.62 crores. Mumbai, January 1 - The Indian box office in 2023 witnessed a rise of approximately 8% as compared to 2022. It was a year when Bollywood was back on top and dominated the overall Indian market, thanks to some of the biggest blockbusters of all time in the form of Pathaan, Jawan, Animal, and Gadar 2, among others. ## In 2023, the films across languages grossed an estimated 11400 crores (9700 crores net) at the Indian box office, while in 2022, it was an estimated 10550 crores gross (8850 crores net) collection. The Hindi language has had a sharp rise of approximately 45% while the Telugu language mostly remained flat and Tamil witnessed an upward trend but Kannada and Malayalam cinema scored a decline. ## Have a look at the language-wise break-down of the collection at the Indian box office in 2023 - ## Hindi - As said, it was an unforgettable year for Hindi cinema scoring an estimated 4800 crores net collection in 2023, as compared to 3300 crores in 2022. In 2023, Bollywood scored its first 500 crores net grosser in the form of "Pathaan", before "Gadar 2", "Jawan", and "Animal" joined the party in this prestigious club. Apart from the four 500+ crore net grossers, there were 10 other films, including Salaar which minted over 100+ crores net. ## Telugu - It wasn't a great year for Telugu cinema in terms of delivering a big blockbuster. The highest-grossing film in Telugu came in the last month of the year in the form "Salaar" which has minted over 200 crores net. Overall, the Telugu language contributed an estimated 1860 crores net in 2023 as compared to 1900 crores in 2022. 2024, however, could be the break-out year for Telugu cinema as almost all the top stars will be in action. ## Tamil - The Tamil cinema had good success in 2023 with 5 films topping 100+ crores net collection, and two of them ("Leo" and "Jailer") went on to top 200+ crores net. Overall, the Tamil language scored an estimated 1600+ crores net collection in 2023, as compared to 1560 crores in 2022. Just like Telugu, Kollywood could also witness a major turnaround in 2024 with multiple blockbusters lined up for the release. ## Malayalam and Kannada - The Kannada cinema witnessed a major decline in collection in 2023 in the absence of major hits. Last year, there were "Kantara" and "KGF 2" which made a large contribution, but in 2023, things were the opposite, resulting in, the Kannada language scoring an estimated 200 crores net, compared to 650 crores in 2022. ## The Malayalam cinema had a break-out success in 2023 in the form of "2018 Movie" along with some other box office hits but it failed to cross 2022 in terms of overall collection.
