A New 'Alien' Film In The Works With 'Don't Breathe' Director Fede Álvarez

Mumbai, March 6 - The fans of one of the popular sci-fi horror film franchises, "Alien", have reasons to rejoice as a new film is under development in the series, which will be written and directed by "Don't Breathe" and 2013's remake of "Evil Dead" fame Fede Álvarez who is himself a big fan of the franchise. ## There have been four movies in the original "Alien" series along with two crossover films and two prequel movies. The last "Alien" movie was released in 2017 in the form of a prequel titled "Alien: Covenant". ## The new movie, meanwhile, is intended to be made for Hulu as part of the 20th Century's ambitions to make more than 10 movies a year for the Disney-operated streaming service, as per The Hollywood Reporter. The upcoming movie will be produced by Ridley Scott, who directed the original sci-fi horror movie released in 1979 and returned for two 21st century installments, under his Scott Free production banner. ## Alien and its many sequels and prequels focus on the horror of a ferocious race of alien beings called Xenomorphs, who implant eggs inside living bodies via "facehuggers" that violently burst out of chests when they reach a certain stage of maturity.## The new movie in the film series, however, will be different from the previous movies and will follow a premise that is different from the narrative of the three 'Alien' films. A couple of days ago, the Academy announced had announced the leaderboard of the fan-favorite poll, which "Spider-Man: No Way Home", along with 9 other movies. ## Now, according to surveys (via variety), the Marvel/Sony picture is clearly leading the fan-favorite poll and is the top contender to bag the trophy. A recent Morning Consult survey suggested that 26% of U.S. adults said "Spider-Man: No Way Home" was their favorite film of 2021.## Following "Spider-Man: No Way Home", Americans' favorite films of 2021 were "Encanto" (14%), "Dune" (8%), "Don't Look Up" (6%), and "Ghostbusters: Afterlife" (4%). Interestingly, Warner Bros. "Dune", and Netflix's "Don't Look Up" will also be competing with 8 other movies in the main Best Picture category at this year's Oscars. ## Moving back to "No Way Home", it was one of the most anticipated films to get a nomination for the Best Picture, but it failed to make the cut. Mumbai, March 4 - James Cameron's global sensation, "Avatar 2", will be in the action from December this year, after speculations of its postponement. The sequel to the 2009's sci-fi epic, as assured by 20th Century Studios president Steve Asbell, will not be delayed again. ## "Avatar 2", had there been no covid-19 pandemic, would have been released in December 2021 itself, but now be hitting worldwide screens on December 16, 2022. While speaking with THR, Steve Asbell was asked whether Avatar 2 would premiere in theaters this year, and without so much as a pause, Asbell said, "Yes. It will". ## Set in the mid-22nd century, "Avatar" shattered box office records upon its release in 2009 and went on to become the highest-grossing film of all time at the worldwide box office. The record was later broken when "Avengers: Endgame" was released in 2019, but it reclaimed it upon its re-release in China last year with a $2.84 bliion. ## Despite the thundering response to the first film, Asbell doesn't know how many people have actually been eagerly awaiting the next four Avatar movies. He, however, bet on James Cameron to deliver yet again and is confident that the marketing department will be able to pump audiences up once more. ## "Avatar 2 going to blow people away and that audience is not ready for what Jim [Cameron] is doing", he added. "I can tell you that there is no better marketing apparatus in the business than the one at Disney. They will do an incredible job reigniting that passion for the original film. This is not just a sequel, it's a saga. The Robert Pattinson-fronted will debut internationally on March 3rd ahead of its domestic debut on the next day. ## Warner Bros. and theater owners have high expectations from this Matt Reeves-directed, which is touted to be darker and more to be a detective story than the previous Batman movies. The movie had its world premiere on Feb. 28, in which, it received an anonymous positive response from the critics.## As far as the box office is concerned, "The Batman" is all set to take the biggest opening of 2022. The latest projections are indicating the movie to open between $115M-$145M at the domestic (North America) box office in the opening weekend. While these are just indications, it might surpass the projection to take the biggest opening in the Batman franchise of all time. ## The reboot of the Batman film franchise, The Batman may become only the 6th Hollywood movie of all time to debut with $100M+ at the domestic box office, for a film released in the month of March. "The Batman", starring Robert Pattinson, was slated for March 3rd release in Russia, which has now been pulled at the 11th hour.## "In light of the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, WarnerMedia is pausing the release of its feature film The Batman in Russia", a WarnerMedia spokesperson said in a statement. "We will continue to monitor the situation as it evolves. We hope for a swift and peaceful resolution to this tragedy". ## Apart from Warner Bros., Sony Pictures has also taken a decision to not release its upcoming movies in Russia, including the high-profile Marvel pic "Morbius", starring Jared Leto. "Morbius" was slated for January 28 release this year, but now, postponed to April 1st.## "Given the ongoing military action in Ukraine and the resulting uncertainty and humanitarian crisis unfolding in that region, we will be pausing our planned theatrical releases in Russia, including the upcoming release of Morbius", a Sony spokesperson said late Monday.## Russia has been one of the biggest international markets for Hollywood films. The recently released Sony's "Spider-Man: No Way Home" has so far grossed $44.5 million in Russia since its debut in December 2021. ## It is to be known that Disney was the first to take the decision of not releasing its film in Russia.
