Mumbai, May 8 - Filmmaker Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer is one of the most-anticipated films releasing this summer. The biographical film is based on the 2005 book American Prometheus by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin. ## The film follows the life of theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer, played by Cillian Murphy, the director of the Los Alamos Laboratory during the Manhattan Project in World War II, and his contributions that led to the creation of the atomic bomb.## Ahead of the film's theatrical debut on July 21, 2023, "Oppenheimer" gets a new explosive trailer. Los Angeles, May 7 - Marvel Studios and Disney's Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 launched to more than expected $289.30 million at the worldwide box office, including $118.40 million domestically (North America) over the 3-day weekend. ## The James Gunn-directed superhero movie opened in the projected lines at the domestic box office, which is the second biggest opening of the year, behind "The Super Mario Bros. Movie's" $146 million. The third installment in the GoTG franchise, however, fell well short of the $146 million opening of "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" (2017). ## The movie is carrying super positive word of mouth which is promising enough for the movie to dream for a long run. It is having 95% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes along with an "A" CinemaScore (only the third Marvel movie to get A post-pandemic). ## At the international box office, "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" crushed industry projections with a huge $170.90 million from 52 markets over the 5-day weekend and beats the likes of "Ant-Man 3" ($121.3M), "Thor: Love And Thunder" ($159M) and "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" ($150M). ## "GoTG3", however, underperformed in India with an estimated $3.50 million over a 3-day weekend, one of the lowest openings for a Marvel movie in the post covid era. ## The top 10 international markets of GoTG3 are as follows - 1. Pictures' horror thriller Evil Dead Rise, which was almost landed directly on streaming, has become the highest-grossing film in the Evil Dead franchise at the domestic as well as the worldwide box office. ## The fifth installment in the series, "Evil Dead Rise" has crossed the $100 million mark at the worldwide box office, surpassing the lifetime total of $97.50 million of the 4th film "Evil Dead" which was released in 2013. The total worldwide cume of the film reached $114.80 million, including $60.70 million internationally through the third weekend.## The Lee Cronin-directed film is projected to reach $54+ million at the domestic (North America) box office by 3rd Sunday and is likely to top fourth "Evil Dead's" lifetime domestic haul of $54.20 million to become the biggest film in the series domestically as well. ## The original "Evil Dead" was directed by Sam Raimi in 1981, and earned $2.90 million worldwide. Raimi went on to make "Evil Dead 2" in 1987, which earned $5.90 million worldwide, and "Army of Darkness" in 1992, which made $11.50 million, before Fede Álvarez directed the 4th installment. ## Interestingly, "Evil Dead Rise" has emerged as a surprise blockbuster in India with an estimated gross total of $4 million through the 3rd Sunday. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has been billed as a special film in the MCU for many reasons. ## Not only was GoTG3 the final film in this much-loved superhero series, but the threequel was also director James Gunn's final MCU movie. Just like the first two Guardians movies, the latest flick is also getting wide praise from the audiences and now, it has created a new MCU record in ratings. ## The threequel currently opens at a 4.2 rating out of 5 on Letterboxd, making it the highest-rated MCU movie, distributed by Disney on the social platform. The original Guardians of the Galaxy movie scored a 3.8 rating on Letterboxd, while Vol. 2 has a 3.5 rating.## "Spider-Man: No Way Home", which was distributed by Sony Pictures, opened slightly higher at 4.3 ratings, but it currently stands at 4 ratings on the platform. ## Meanwhile, other than the Letterboxed's ratings, GoTG3 has received an "A" CinemaScore, which is on par with the first two films in the franchise. Los Angeles, May 6 - The writers' strike in the USA has started taking a toll on upcoming films, including Marvel movies. ## According to THR, Marvel Studios has stopped the pre-production work on its upcoming vampire thriller feature film Blade starring Mahershala Ali. It becomes the first tentpole movie impacted by the strike. ## Marvel had recently hired "True Detective" creator Nic Pizzolatto to work on the script but it was too late for the studio to avail his service due to the strike. Los Angeles, May 3 - The finale of Marvel Studios' Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy by director James Gunn is hitting the big screen this Friday (May 5) and the movie is expected to start the summer box office with a bang. ## According to Hollywood trade experts, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is projected to open around $110 million - $120 million in its 3-day domestic (North America) opening weekend. This can be termed as an underwhelming start as "GoTG2" opened at $146 million in 2017. ## While the critics' reviews are decent for the third installment, the poor performance of the recent Marvel movies can be seen affecting the opening of "GoTG3" which is being hailed as the best Marvel movie since "Avengers: Endgame" (2019). ## Internationally, the superhero movie is expected to score around $140 million - $150 million over a 5-day opening weekend. Los Angeles, April 27 - 20th Century Studios seems to be getting inspired by the huge box office success of Avatar: The Way of Water as producer Jon Landau has teased another long-awaited sequel to 2019' Alita: Battle Angel. ## From the screenplay by James Cameron and Laeta Kalogridis, "Alita: Battle Angel", a cyberpunk action film based on Yukito Kishiro's manga series Gunnm, was released in 2019 and grossed over $400 million worldwide. It followed the titular cyborg as she discovered the truth about her identity, her friends, and the people who run the city she lives in. ## The movie ended on a cliffhanger, setting up the stage for a potential sequel. However, 20th Century Studios didn't seem too interested in the sequel, but the dedicated fans have been voicing for "Alita 2" to know the rest of the story.## Amid the continued demand, producer Jon Landau has finally provided good news regarding the sequel and said that the talks are happening for quite some time now. During an exclusive interview with Screen Rant, the "Avatar" producer confirmed that "We're working on it".## "I think what we've learned from Avatar is how much more facial nuance and subtlety that we can get into characters that we want to be emotional and emote that are humanoid. Alita would not have been possible, but for what we did on Avatar. Avatar: Way of Water would not be what it is but what we did for Alita. And now let's put that back and give it back to Alita.
