'Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga' Worldwide Box Office Projection Revealed

Pictures' much-anticipated post-apocalyptic action adventure film Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is hitting theatres on May 23 and it will be looking to bring in some joy at the box office, not just domestically but also worldwide. ## The Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth-starrer is both a reboot of the Mad Max franchise and a prequel. According to Deadline, Furiosa is tracking to earn $80 million - $85 million in its worldwide opening weekend, starting on Wednesday (May 22). ## As reported previously is projected to earn $40+ million in its 4-day domestic (North America) opening weekend while overseas, it is tracking $40 million - $45 million. The movie is carrying a budget of $160 million and is certified fresh at Rotten Tomatoes with an 85% critics' score. ## Mad Max: Fury Road (2015), starring Charlize Theron, opened at $45.4 million domestically so the projection of Furiosa is very much on the lines of the original movie. ## In India, Furiosa is expected to have a much better outcome than the original movie which grossed approximately 15 crores in its lifetime run. Mumbai, May 20 - Disney's science fiction action film Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes has topped $200 million at the worldwide box office. Directed by Wes Ball, the film showed a solid hold in the domestic and overseas markets in the second weekend which pushed the collection past $200 million.## At the domestic box office, the stand-alone sequel to War for the Planet of the Apes (2017) crossed $100 million and currently stands at $101.2 million (845 crores) after the second weekend. Overseas, the movie showed a much better hold and added another $40.6 million to its tally for $136.3 million (1135 crores), pushing the worldwide total to $237.5 million (1980 crores). ## Made on a budget of $160 million, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is projected to finish its box office run at around $400 million worldwide, which would be less than War for the Planet of the Apes ($490 million) which was made on a budget of $150 million. ## Meanwhile, at the Indian box office, Kingdom has been decent with approximately 27.75 crores gross collection in 10 days. Mumbai, May 18 - Tom Hardy-led superhero film Venom - The Last Dance is set to bring curtains to the three-part franchise, Sony Motion Pictures Group chairman Tom Rothman confirmed to the Deadline. ## Directed by Kelly Marcel, Venom 3 is intended to be the fifth film in Sony's Spider-Man Universe (SSU) and the sequel to Venom (2018) and Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021). It will conclude the Venom franchise which Tom Rothman believes is going to be huge. ## Venom 3 was more or less confirmed to be the final movie in the franchise when the title was announced last year and the mixed success of Sony's Spider-Man Universe is also reportedly a major reason for the studio to move on from the SSU. ## Meanwhile, the first two Venom films were box office successes despite the mixed reviews. The first movie was a big success with over $850 million worldwide while the second film, Venom: Let There Be Carnage made over $500 million during the COVID-19 pandemic. Mumbai, May 12 - Disney's Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes opened on the projected lines at the worldwide box office with a strong $131 million in its first 5-day weekend. ## At the domestic (North America) box office, the fourth instalment in the Planet of the Apes reboot franchise grossed a solid $58.5 million (488 crores) over a 3-day weekend. The movie's opening is the second biggest in the rebooted franchise, behind only Dawn of the Planet of the Apes which opened to $72 million. ## While the domestic opening of Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes was slightly higher than the projection, the overseas collection of the movie fell a little short of the projection but was still solid with $72.7 million (607 crores) over the 5-day weekend, for $131.2 million (1095 crores) global start.## China was once again the biggest international market for the movie with $11.6 million, followed by France ($7.6M), and Mexico with $6.4 million. Mumbai, May 11 - Disney's science fiction actioner Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes has had a good start at the Indian box office, taking a bigger opening than its predecessor, War For The Planet Of The Apes back in 2017. ## Directed by Wes Ball, the fourth instalment in the Planet of the Apes reboot franchise scored approximately 3.75+ crores gross (3.15 crores net) opening in India. The previous film in the franchise took the opening of around 3 crores gross collection. ## Meanwhile, at the domestic (North America) box office, the film is looking at $21 million -$22 million on Friday opening day, which also includes $6.6 million on Thursday previews. The previews for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes are the biggest in the franchise. Los Angeles, May 8 - The Apes are coming to rule the box office again as Disney's Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes looking at one of the best starts in the franchise. ## Directed by Wes Ball, the fourth instalment in the Planet of the Apes reboot the franchise and the tenth film overall is tracking to earn $50 million to $50 million in the domestic (North America) opening weekend, according to Variety.## If the movie opens in the projected lines, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes could aim at the third or possibly second biggest opening in the Rebooted franchise. 2014's Dawn of the Planet of the Apes notched a series-best $72 million opening, followed by 2017's War for the Planet of the Apes opened to $56.2 million and 2011's Rise of the Planet of the Apes opened to $54.8 million. ## Apart from the domestic, the upcoming movie is tracking to earn $80 million to $90 million at the international box office, for a $130 million to $140 million worldwide debut. Los Angeles, May 7 - Disney is set to reduce the number of Marvel movies to two and shows to three per year to avoid the overdose of entertainment. Disney CEO Bob Iger said (via Variety) that the studio is going to reduce MCU output per year to focus on quality. ## "We're slowly going to decrease volume and go to probably about two TV series a year instead of what had become four and reduce our film output from maybe four a year to two, or a maximum of three. And we're working hard on what that path is", the Disney CEO said during the company's quarterly earnings call Tuesday.## Iger said that the studio is extremely excited about the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, be it movies or shows. After having a poor last year with a couple of big flops (a rarity for Marvel) in the form of Ant-Man 3 and The Marvels, the studio is gearing up for the exciting next few years. ## As of now, Marvel Studios has 4 films slated for 2025 release - "Captain America: Brave New World", "Thunderbolts", "The Fantastic Four", and "Blade", and four more Marvel movies slated for 2026, including the fifth "Avengers” movie. ## In 2024, Marvel is releasing just "Deadpool and Wolverine", which is probably the most hyped MCU title in recent times. The prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road (2015) could be a winner as per the early box office projection. ## According to Deadline, Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth-fronted blockbuster is tracking to earn $40 million - $50 million over the 4-day domestic opening weekend at the domestic (North America) box office. India too has been in the top 5 box office market for the film with a gross collection of around 122 crores ($14.60 million), making it the highest-grossing film in the franchise in India.## Meanwhile, Warner Bros.
