Box Office: Brad Pitt's 'F1' Scores A Very Good First Week In India

Mumbai, July 4 - Hollywood superstar Brad Pitt's latest racing sports drama F1 has hit the ground running at the Indian box office, delivering a strong first-week gross collection of over ₹40 crore. The film, directed by Top Gun: Maverick helmer Joseph Kosinski, has become one of the highest first-week performers for an original Hollywood release in India. ## After a solid opening weekend that brought in around ₹25.50 crore gross, F1 maintained its momentum through the weekdays. Remarkably, the film saw minimal to no drops from Monday to Thursday, wrapping up the week with a total gross in the ₹42–43 crore range (₹35–36 crore net) across all languages. ## The IMAX was the clear preferred choice of the Indian audience for the movie, which accounted for approximately 30% of the total collections. The original English version, in particular, drove strong footfalls in premium screens. ## F1 faces a reduction in screen count heading into its second weekend, due to the arrival of big new releases like Jurassic World Rebirth, but it has managed to retain all IMAX screens. That's a big win, especially since the Jurassic World sequel isn't releasing in the IMAX format. ## Backed by strong word-of-mouth and positive audience reception, F1 is expected to hold firm in its second weekend. It is expected to be around ₹60 crore gross (₹50 crore net) by the end of the second weekend, which is an excellent result for a niche, motorsport-centric film in the Indian market. ## Stay tuned...

Box Office: 'Jurassic World Rebirth' Projected To Storm $250+ Million Opening Worldwide

Los Angeles, July 3 - The dinosaurs are back, and they're eyeing a big box office debut. Universal Pictures' sci-fi thriller Jurassic World Rebirth is tracking for a $250+ million global opening over the five-day weekend, signalling a strong resurgence for the blockbuster franchise. ## Directed by Gareth Edwards, the fourth instalment in the Jurassic World series launched midweek on Wednesday to capitalise on the extended Fourth of July U.S. holiday window. According to Deadline, the film is forecast to rake in $120–130 million domestically during its first five days. ## While this is a slight dip from the previous entry, 2022's "Jurassic World: Dominion", which opened to $145 million, industry watchers remain optimistic. The original "Jurassic World" (2015) still holds the franchise's domestic opening weekend record at $208.8 million, followed by "Fallen Kingdom" (2018) with $148 million. ## Internationally, Jurassic World Rebirth is expected to generate $130 million across 82 markets, pushing its worldwide debut into the $250+ million range. Though below the heights of 2015's $525.5 million global debut, Rebirth’s forecast positions it as a significant player in this summer’s box office landscape. For context, Dominion opened globally to $390 million. ## The film stars Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, Jonathan Bailey, Rupert Friend, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, and Ed Skrein. Set five years after the events of Dominion, the plot follows a daring expedition to remote equatorial regions, where scientists seek DNA from colossal prehistoric species in a quest for a revolutionary medical breakthrough. ## With star power, nostalgia, and prehistoric thrills, Jurassic World Rebirth looks ready to stomp its way to a mammoth success. ## Stay tuned...

James Cameron Hits Out At Christopher Nolan's Oscar-Winning Film 'Oppenheimer'; Here Is Why

Los Angeles, June 30 - Legendary Hollywood director James Cameron has hit out at acclaimed director Christopher Nolan for his 2023 epic biographical thriller Oppenheimer, which has been hailed as one of the best films of the 21st century. The movie is based on the life of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the American theoretical physicist who helped develop the first nuclear weapons during World War II. ## Oppenheimer was declared the best movie at the 96th Academy Awards, in which it won 7 Oscars, including Best Picture. Cameron, however, has criticised Nolan for not depicting the aftermath of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki nuclear bombing, which killed over 250,000 people. While Cameron acknowledged Nolan's filmmaking, he felt disappointed that Oppenheimer didn't depict the aftermath of the atomic bombing. ## During an interview with Deadline, the "Avatar" director said, "Yeah, it's interesting what he stayed away from. Look, I love the filmmaking, but I did feel that it was a bit of a moral cop-out. Because it's not like Oppenheimer didn't know the effects. He's got one brief scene in the film where we see — and I don't like to criticise another filmmaker's film – but there's only one brief moment where he sees some charred bodies in the audience, and then the film goes on to show how it deeply moved him. But I felt that it dodged the subject". ## Meanwhile, James Cameron himself is working on a film based on the Hiroshima bombing titled Ghosts of Hiroshima, which tells the story from those on the business end of the unimaginably destructive blasts that turned Japan into a hell-scape and killed hundreds of people and much more over time as the radiation ravaged the bodies of survivors. ## While Nolan's "Oppenheimer" grossed nearly $1 billion at the global box office, Cameron feels that "Ghosts of Hiroshima" could be his lowest-grossing film because of the subject matter, as he will be showing the aftermath of the atomic bombing. Cameron's film will be based on Charles Pellegrino's book Ghosts of Hiroshima, which comes out August 5 from Blackstone Publishing and The Story Factory. ## Interestingly, "Ghosts of Hiroshima" will be Cameron's first film other than the Avatar movies since "Titanic", which was released more than 2 and a half decades ago in 1997. The filmmaker will be directing this upcoming film between the next Avatar movies. His next release, "Avatar: Fire And Ash" (Avatar 3), will debut on December 19 this year. ## Stay tuned...

It is one of the biggest openings of the year for an original title. ## Internationally, the blockbuster grossed a huge $88.4 million across 78 markets in the opening weekend, for a worldwide total of $144 million. James Gunn's 'Superman' Projected To Score Record $125+ Million Domestic Opening

Los Angeles, June 20 - Director James Gunn's Superman is possibly looking to score the biggest opening for a solo Superman movie at the domestic box office after the superhero movie arrived on tracking three weeks before the release. ## Starring David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Superman is the first movie under the new DC Studios, headed by James Gunn and Peter Safran. Directed by Gunn, the movie is hot in the trade with a record opening in sight. ## According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie is tracking to open in the $135 million range at the domestic (North America) box office. The projected figures are from the leading tracking service, the National Research Group, as per THR. ## NRG always provides a range in addition to a solo number; in this case, the range for Superman's domestic opening is $125 million to $145 million. Meanwhile, the insiders at DC Studios and Warner Bros. are not looking too far and are being more conservative in suggesting a $90 million to $125 million opening. ## The projection suggests Superman could emerge as one of the biggest DC openers of all time. It is still behind the $166 million domestic debut of 2016's "Batman v Superman: The Dawn of Justice", but is ahead of or in the range of Zack Snyder's 2013 film "Man of Steel" ($116 million). ## Scheduled to release on July 11, the film explores Superman's journey to reconcile his alien heritage with his adoptive human family. It also stars Nicholas Hoult, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, and Isabela Merced in prominent roles. ## Stay tuned...

Box Office: 'How To Train Your Dragon', 'Ballerina' And 'Materialists' Opening Weekend Collection

Mumbai, June 16 - There were three new Hollywood releases this past weekend at the Indian box office. Despite the competition with Indian titles, all three films, which include "How To Train Your Dragon", "Ballerina", and "Materialists", did decent business in the opening weekend. ## How To Train Your Dragon, which is the live-action remake of the 2010 animated film, was the top Hollywood grosser among all the films. It took a decent opening of an estimated 2.60 crores gross before jumping over the weekend to collect an estimated 12.75 crores gross in 3 days in India in all versions. ## The word of mouth for HTTYD is positive, which should help the movie to continue doing steady business, though the competition will intensify once Aamir Khan's "Sitaare Zameen Par" arrives on June 20. The film will be looking to finish with 30+ crores gross, which is a good result. ## And de Armes' action thriller Ballerina, the spin-off of the John Wick franchise, grossed approximately 8.25 crores in the opening weekend. It is a decent result for the film, given its A-rated content and strong competition. It needs to be seen how the film performs in the coming days, as word of mouth is mixed. ## There is this romantic comedy Materialists, featuring Dakota Johnson, Chris Evans, and Pedro Pascal, which was the biggest gainer in terms of showing growth. After opening to around 70 lakh gross collection on the first day, the movie scored 100% growth on Saturday, followed by a solid hold on Sunday with collection the same as the previous day, grossing approximately 3.60 crores in three days in India. ## Stay tuned...

'Avengers: Doomsday' Sets Up Clash With Hollywood And Bollywood Movies

Mumbai, May 23 - Marvel Studios's next Avengers movie, Avengers: Doomsday, is set to pose a major threat to local and international releases at the box office after it was postponed to December 2026 from May 1st, 2026. ## Directed by Russo Brothers, Doomsday will now be released on December 18, ahead of the Christmas weekend globally. Interestingly, Warner Bros. Pictures' sci-fi epic Dune 3/Dune: Messiah has already been announced for December 16 release, and if it holds that date, then Hollywood is set for a major box office clash. ## Not only the local movie, Doomsday, may also challenge a big Bollywood title. It was recently confirmed that superstar Aamir Khan and director Rajkumar Hirani would reunite for the biopic of Dadasaheb Phalke, also known as the Father of Indian Cinema. ## The shoot of this yet untitled movie will begin in October this year, and if reports are to be believed, the makers are eyeing a Christmas 2026 release of the movie. Another report has stated that the movie might also be released in April 2027, on Phalke's 157th birth anniversary. ## Apart from Dadasaheb Phalke's biopic, there is Maddock Films' biggest film to date, Mahavatar, which is set against the backdrop of Ramayana and is about one of the most pivotal characters of the epic, Lord Parshuram. It was announced in November last year for a Christmas 2026 release with the shoot set to commence by the end of 2025. ## If the makers go ahead with the Christmas launch, then Doomsday might pose a major threat to both Bollywood titles. Marvel movies have historically done well, especially the Avengers movies, as Avengers: Endgame is the second-highest-grossing Hollywood movie in India, and Doomsday is very much expected to set the box office on fire. ## There is still a long time to go for Christmas 2026, and with movie dynamics changing frequently, there is a chance that the box office clash might not happen. But if things remain unchanged, then Christmas 2026 is set to give a huge boost to the box office. ## Stay tuned...
