Box Office: Tamil Movie 'Garudan' Scored Very Good Opening Weekend

Chennai, June 3 - After the big success of Aranmanai 4, the Tamil film industry has another movie doing well at the box office in the form of actor Soori's action thriller Garudan, directed by R. S. Durai Senthilkumar. ## Released on May 31st, Garudan had a very good opening weekend at the domestic box office with a gross collection of approximately 17 crores in 3 days. It scored the third biggest opening weekend for a Tamil movie of 2023, behind Captain Miller and Aranmanai 4. ## Garudan opened to a good collection of approximately 4 crores gross, before showing a jump of around 38% on its second day for approx. 5.60 crores gross, followed by another jump of 29% on Sunday for approx. 7.25 crores. The movie is expected to perform well in the coming days. ## The last few weeks have been good for the Tamil film industry with the success of Thalapathy Vijay's Ghilli re-release and Aranmanai 4, otherwise, this has been a poor year for the industry. Suriya 43: Suriya's Film With Sudha Kongara Put On Hold?

Chennai, May 29 - In October last year, Tamil star Suriya and director Sudha Kongara reunited after Soorarai Pottru for a real-life inspired film, tentatively titled Suriya 43. The movie was announced with solid casting, including Dulquer Salmaan, Nazriya Fahadh, and Vijay Varma. ## The shooting of Suriya 43 was supposed to commence by early this year but there has been no development since the announcement. Now, according to a report by Only Kollywood, the movie has been put on hold indefinitely for some unknown reasons and is not happening anytime soon. ## It is said that Sudha Kongara is now working on her new project which is said to be another intense drama with actor Sivakarthikeyan. However, nothing is confirmed yet but Sivakarthikeyan has reportedly shown interest in the movie to do it. ## Meanwhile, Sudha Kongara is gearing up for the release of her Bollywood debut movie Sarfira, which is the remake of Soorarai Pottru. Chennai, May 23 - Thalapathy Vijay's science fiction action drama The Greatest of All Time post-theatrical digital rights reportedly sold to Netflix for a massive sum of 110 crores, according to a report by Only Kollywood. ## Directed by Venkat Prabhu, The GOAT is easily one of the most anticipated Tamil films of the year and it is expected to set the box office on fire. Chennai, May 20 - Actor and director Sundar C's horror-comedy Aranmanai 4 has become the highest-grossing Tamil movie of 2024 at the worldwide box office, beating Sivakarthikeyan's sci-fi adventure Ayalaan. ## Starring Sundar C, Tamannaah Bhatia, and Raashii Khanna, the fourth instalment of the hit franchise has grossed approximately 62 crores at the domestic box office, including approximately 56.50 crores in Tamil and 5.50 crores in the Telugu version.## The overseas collection of Aranmanai 4 is an estimated 16 crores, pushing the worldwide cume total to 78 crores gross in 17 days. Chennai, April 22 - Thalapathy Vijay's sports action drama film Ghilli was re-released on April 20 worldwide and scored the biggest-ever opening for a South Indian movie upon the re-release with a gross collection of approximately 7.75 crores, including 4.75 crores in India. ## The opening of the film proved Vijay's mega pull at the box office which also provided some relief to the Tamil Nadu theatres which are having a dry spell this year. On its second day, the movie scored rock rock-solid hold at the Indian box office. ## Ghilli grossed around 3.75 crores in India on the second day, which is bigger than the opening day of most of the re-release films. The total domestic collection of the movie stands at around 8.50 crores gross in 2 days which is sensational. Worldwide, the movie has crossed the double-digit mark at around 12 crores gross. ## Ghilli is a remake of the Telugu-language 2003 film Okkadu which itself was a big hit at the box office. Chennai, April 21 - Thalapathy Vijay's one of the biggest blockbusters, sports action film Ghilli has had a re-release worldwide on April 20 and the response has been the same as it was 20 years ago when the movie opened to houseful boards in theatres. ## There has been a dearth of box office successes for Tamil cinema this year, and filmmakers and distributors have been re-releasing older blockbusters to get some sort of outcome. Chennai, April 11 - Thalapathy Vijay's science fiction action film The Greatest of All Time - GOAT, directed by Venkat Prabhu, has confirmed September 2024 release date in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi. ## On the occasion of Eid, Thursday (April 11), the makers announced the much-awaited release of GOAT and confirmed its arrival on September 5 during Ganesh Chaturthi week. The movie will be released on Thursday to enjoy a long 4-day weekend at the box office. ## The film is produced by AGS Entertainment, marking its second collaboration with Vijay after the blockbuster Bigil (2019).
