Box Office: Sivakarthikeyan's Doctor Becomes The Highest Grosser Indian Film After The Second Covid-19 Wave
Chennai, October 17 - What a turnaround this for Sivakarthikeyan's Tamil movie Doctor. At one stage, the movie almost succumbed to the OTT illusion, but now it is going all guns blazing at the box office. The comedy-actioner, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, has been declared one of the biggest blockbusters of 2021, and the reason behind it is the unpreceded response from the audience. ## Produced by Sivakarthikeyan Productions, and KJR Studios, "Doctor" has become the highest grosser Indian film after the second covid-19 wave with INR 63.4 crores worldwide. It has surpassed the Telugu movie "Love Story" starring Naga Chaitanya and Sai Pallavi, which earned 61 crores* worldwide in the first three weeks while Akshay Kumar starrer "Bell Bottom" is at number 3 with Rs. 53.70 crores worldwide. ## "Doctor" was released on October 9 and it has earned Rs. 43.9 crores so far in Tamil Nadu state including Rs. 7.71 crores from Chennai alone. It was also released in dubbed Telugu version as Varun Doctor and it turned out to be a profitable venture for Telugu distributors with Rs. 2.09 crores so far. Overseas, it has approx Rs. 10 crores including 400K (Rs. 3.10 crores) at the USA box office. ## Even after 8 days, "Doctor" showing no signs of slowness and reporting Housefull shows all over Tamil Nadu. The 2nd Sunday morning occupancy was 80.38 which is remarkable considering the various factors. The box office numbers could have been much higher if there were no 50% theater capacity restrictions in Tamil Nadu. However, the way film is performing, Rs. 100 crore+ worldwide gross is within sight. ## Written and directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, "Doctor" also stars Vinay Rai, Priyanka Arul Mohan (in her Tamil debut), Yogi Babu, Milind Soman, among others in key roles.
