Pongal 2026 Showdown: Sivakarthikeyan's Parasakthi Joins The Festive Race Against Thalapathy Vijay's Jana Nayagan

Chennai, September 12 - The Tamil cinema is bracing up for a major box office showdown on Pongal 2026 after Sivakarthikeyan's much-awaited period political drama film Parashakti confirms indirect clash with Thalapathy Vijay's swan song Jana Nayagan. Directed by Sudha Kongara, Parashakti is reportedly based on true events, revolving around the Anti-Hindi agitations in Tamil Nadu that happened in 1965. On Friday (September 12), the makers announced that this much-awaited movie will be hitting worldwide cinemas on January 14, 2026, coinciding with the Pongal festival. Produced by Dawn Pictures, Parashakti was initially supposed to be headlined by Suriya, who backed out for some reason. It has Sreeleela as the female lead, alongside Ravi Mohan, who plays the antagonist. The film also stars Rana Daggubati, Atharvaa, Basil Joseph, and others. Parashakti will be released four days after Thalapathy Vijay's final film Jana Nayagan, before his political entry. Both movies are political thrillers, which are expected to score big box office numbers, and might also invite criticism for their genre. 💥💥💥😊👍 pic.twitter.com/jrljjJv98U— Sivakarthikeyan (@Siva_Kartikeyan) September 12, 2025 Stay tuned...

YRF Spy Universe Footfalls Ranking: Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan Leads, Hrithik Roshan, Jr. NTR's War 2 Trails Behind

Mumbai, September 12 - Yash Raj Films' Spy Universe has been one of the biggest crowd-pullers over the year. From Salman Khan's Ek Tha Tiger, which shattered records back in 2012, to Shah Rukh Khan's record-breaking Pathaan, Spy Universe has proved its stamina in attracting audiences to theatres. However, just like a coin has two sides, Spy Universe too is showing the sign of fatigue after peaking with Pathaan in 2023. It has been over a decade since the franchise kicked off, but over the past few years, the cinema has evolved, which has started reflecting in the Spy Universe with the underperformance of Tiger 3 and War 2. The biggest downfall for the YRF Spy Universe came with the recently released War 2. The Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR-fronted failed to score even half the admissions of Ek Tha Tiger at the domestic box office, despite a much bigger scale and a bigger market. YRF Spy Universe Films and Their Domestic Theatrical Performance All Languages (Est.) Ek Tha Tiger, despite only releasing in Hindi, sold a huge 2.47 crores tickets in India, and is the third most-watched Spy Universe film in theatres after Tiger Zinda Hai and Pathaan. Superstar Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan, meanwhile, remains the path-breaker film in the series. It is not only the most-watched film with approximately 3.50 crores admissions, but also the first and the only film in the Spy Universe to gross over 1000 crores gross at the worldwide box office. The record is likely to remain intact until Pathaan 2, which is expected to start after the upcoming Alpha, starring Alia Bhatt, Sharvari Wagh, and Bobby Deol. Stay tuned...

Hrithik Roshan, Jr. NTR's War 2 Final Worldwide Box Office Collection, Verdict, and Records

Mumbai, September 12 – Yash Raj Films' ambitious spy action thriller War 2 has ended up as one of the major box office disappointments of recent times. It was one of the most-awaited films of the year, carrying the legacy of 2019's blockbuster War. Directed by Ayan Mukerji, the movie promised high-octane action, cutting-edge visuals, and the first-ever collaboration between Hrithik Roshan and Telugu superstar Jr. NTR. However, despite the hype and sky-high expectations, War 2 massively underperformed, not just at the domestic but also the overseas box office, wrapping up its run on a disappointing note as the second-lowest-grossing film in the YRF Spy Universe. It is the costliest film in the famous Spy Universe, with over 400 crores. War 2 started struggling with the advance sales itself as it failed to build the moment despite the star power of Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR, along with the brand value of the franchise. The pre-sales trend was clearly reflected in the opening, which was also affected by the negative reviews. Here Is The Final Worldwide Box Office Breakdown of War 2 (expected) India Net Box Office Collection₹ 237.00 CrHindi Net Box Office Collection₹ 178.00 Cr India Gross Box Office Collection₹ 283.00 Cr Overseas Box Office Collection₹ 82.00 Cr Worldwide Box Office Collection₹ 365.00 Cr India Footfalls/Admits1.20 Cr approx. Box Office VerdictFlop The Hindi version, which was expected to lead the charge, finished below 200 crores net as the lowest in the Spy Universe and far below the benchmarks set by other spy universe outings like Pathaan and War. However, the big letdown was the Telugu version, which couldn't even cross 100 crores domestically despite the presence of one of the biggest stars of South Indian cinema. As a result of poor collections, War 2 finished below 300 crores gross domestically. In the overseas market, the collections were also not up to the level the franchise has set over the year, reaching 82 crores gross, a low figure for a film of this scale. It has also been the least-watched movie in the Spy Universe. Despite its lavish scale, budget, star power, and action-packed marketing campaign, War 2 failed to resonate with audiences beyond the initial buzz. Weak storytelling, mixed word-of-mouth, and high expectations worked against it. For YRF’s spy universe, which has otherwise delivered record-smashing successes, War 2 serves as a reminder that brand value alone cannot guarantee box office glory. Stay tuned...

Mumbai, September 12 – Japanese anime phenomenon Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle is heading for a massive start at the Indian box office, after recording one of the biggest pre-sales in the country this year. The unexpected rise of the animation genre in India has been taken to another level by Infinity Castle, which has already become the biggest non-Hollywood grosser here with pre-sales only. Directed by Haruo Sotozaki, the film has registered the biggest ever pre-sales for an animation film in India for the opening day as well as the weekend. Among the Bollywood films of 2025, Demon Slayer is the third biggest pre-sales earner this year in terms of tickets sold in the three national chains (PVR, INOX, and Cinepolis). To put the numbers into perspective, here's how Infinity Castle stacks up against other major openers of the year in national chains: The Conjuring 4 – 227K tickets Chhaava – 223K tickets Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle – 200K tickets Saiyaara – 193K tickets Mission Impossible 8 – 165K tickets With these figures, Demon Slayer comfortably sits at #3 in 2025 pre-sales rankings, only behind Hollywood horror juggernaut The Conjuring 4 and Vicky Kaushal’s historical blockbuster Chhaava. Mirai Box Office Preview: Another Pan-India Blockbuster Loading For Teja Sajja?

Hyderabad, September 12 – The rising Telugu star Teja Sajja's much-awaited superhero spectacle Mirai hit the big screen on September 12 amid a wave of positivity, after the actor delivered a big Pan India blockbuster in Hanuman last year. Mirai, directed by Karthik Gattamneni and Anil Anand, has been carrying positive reports, and as expected, it has opened with positive reviews, both from critics and audiences alike. After good pre-sales worldwide with 7+ crores gross, the film is gearing up for a strong opening at the worldwide box office. Early reviews highlight the movie’s impressive visual effects and the seamless blend of action with a divine touch, something that is striking a chord with viewers. The grandeur in presentation, coupled with a rooted storytelling style, has been widely appreciated. Many believe that Mirai builds upon the massive goodwill generated by Teja Sajja's previous blockbuster HanuMan. The film was censored with U/A (16+) with the approved runtime of 2 hours and 49 minutes (169 minutes) by the CBFC. Adding to the excitement, Prabhas' voiceover in the beginning has emerged as a big plus, amplifying the cinematic experience and instantly engaging the audience. His presence, though brief, lends a starry boost to the film's pan-India appeal. With strong word-of-mouth already setting in, Mirai is well-positioned to register a solid opening day worldwide. If the momentum sustains, which is very much likely given the initial reception, Teja Sajja could be on his way to scoring another pan-India blockbuster, cementing his rising stature as one of the most promising stars in the industry today. Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Box Office Preview/Day 1 Expectations: Japanese Anime Set For A Big Start

Mumbai, September 11 - The Indian box office is about to witness a storm from an unfamiliar friend as Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle is all set for a massive opening. The film, directed by Haruo Sotozaki, is arriving with historic levels of anticipation among fans of Japanese animation, and advance bookings confirm that India is gearing up for a massive opening. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has cleared the film with a U/A certificate and a runtime of 2 hours and 35 minutes. This makes it accessible to younger audiences as well as families, giving the film an additional boost beyond the core anime fandom. As per reports, it will be released on over 1700 screens nationwide by Sony Pictures. Bookings for Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle have been phenomenal, already grossing over 25 crores before release for the opening weekend. For opening day alone, the pre-sales are around 12 crores gross, which is one of the highest this year. With a few hours still left for the release, the final opening day sales could be 14-15+ crores gross, which is huge. Though the pre-sales of Infinity Castle are huge, animation still has a limited reach beyond fandom in India. But given how past films have fared with these sorts of bookings, the animated saga is expected to open in the range of 18-20 crores gross in India. It is already the biggest non-Hollywood grosser in India, even before the first show begins. The film will be released in the original Japanese along with dubbed versions in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and English, expanding its reach across regions. With early morning shows starting as early as 5 AM, as well as the midnight shows in some cities, the demand is clearly unprecedented for an anime film in India. Stay tuned...

Originally released in August 2012, Ek Tha Tiger was a massive success and went on to become a blockbuster at the worldwide box office. With 320 crores worldwide, it was the highest-grossing Indian film of 2012 and the second-highest-grossing of all time at that time, behind Aamir Khan's 3 Idiots (350 crores worldwide). Nandarmuri Balakrishna's Akhanda 2 Strikes Record-Breaking Post-Theatrical OTT Deal With Netflix

Hyderabad, September 11 - The much-awaited sequel to Nandamuri Balakrishna's blockbuster Akhanda has been delayed, but the anticipation for the film shows no signs of slowing down. Directed by Boyapati Srinu, Akhanda 2 is now aiming for a grand worldwide release in the first week of December, in multiple languages. In 2025, the sequels failed to justify the massive expectations, except for a few, and despite that, the trade is supremely confident in Akhanda 2. Not just theatrical ambitions, the film has managed to strike a massive post-theatrical streaming deal with Netflix, possibly without a Hindi version. According to the latest Telugu media reports, Netflix has acquired the streaming rights of the movie for 80+ crores, which is the biggest for Balakrishna. It is not reported whether the streamer has bought the rights for all languages or just for the South Indian versions. Akhanda 2 is expected to have a full-fledged release in Hindi version, meaning an 8-week theatrical window, which is beyond Netflix's agenda. Produced by 14 Reels Plus and Sarke Studio, Akhanda 2 was supposed to be released on September 25, but the makers recently announced that due to the extensive post-production, it has been postponed. There is Pawan Kalyan's highly-awaited OG on September 25, so the trade believes it was the right decision to move back the release of the sequel. The big success of Akhanda (2021) has boosted the box office prospects of Akhanda 2, which is expected to open with massive collections all around. If word of mouth also turns out to be positive, then it is sure to become the biggest blockbuster of NBK. Stay tuned...

Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Creates History in India, Tops All Non-Hollywood Films in Opening Day Pre-Sales Only; Runs Rampage On BookMyShow

Mumbai, September 11 - The Indian audience is yet to be done with the homemade Mahavatar Narsimha, there comes another animation phenomenon called Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle, which is about to set the Indian box office on fire with record-breaking numbers. The Japanese animated dark fantasy action film based on the "Infinity Castle" arc of the 2016–20 manga series Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba by Koyoharu Gotouge, Infinity Castle is in rampage mode, and has already become the highest-grossing non-Hollywood title in India with opening day pre-sales only. As per the latest trade report, the film has sold tickets worth over 10 crores gross for the opening day alone, and is heading towards around 15 crores gross. With this, it has beaten the collection of Suzume and Jujutsu Kaisen 0, which grossed around 10 crores in their respective lifetime runs in India. Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle, however, is looking to score much higher numbers. To understand the craze for the movie, Sony Pictures India has scheduled midnight and early morning shows on the public demand, which is a rarity for an animation film in India. On the ticketing platform, Book My Show, the movie has already sold over 500K tickets for all days, which indicates one of the biggest opening weekends for a non-Indian film this year in the country. The pre-sales of this animated blockbuster are better than any other foreign film this year, ahead of the recently released horror-thriller The Conjuring: Last Rites, which scored to record-breaking 61 crores opening weekend, after 21 crores opening day in India. Infinity Castle will be aiming to top the Last Rites, considering the pre-sales phenomenon. Directed by Haruo Sotozaki, the movie is scheduled to release on September 12 in the original Japanese language, along with the dubbed versions of English, Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil. Stay tuned...

Salman Khan's Meeting With Rajnath Singh Clears Roadblocks for Battle of Galwan Shoot

Mumbai, September 10 - Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has commenced shooting for Battle of Galwan, and recently met Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi to seek assistance for the smooth progress of the same. The film, directed by Apoorva Lakhia, has faced several logistical challenges in obtaining permissions to shoot in the sensitive Ladakh region. According to Bollywood Hungama, the meeting, which lasted for about 45 minutes, proved crucial in clearing hurdles that were threatening to delay the project. The production team had been concerned about losing the narrow Ladakh shooting window, which could have derailed their schedule. Salman's direct approach to the Defence Minister ensured that the issues were taken up at the highest level. During the discussion, Rajnath Singh assured Salman Khan that the government would extend full support in facilitating the shoot. However, he placed a very clear condition - the film should not defame China. It is said that the Defence Minister stressed on the importance of maintaining diplomatic sensitivity, especially at a time when New Delhi and Beijing are working towards stabilising bilateral ties. Salman Khan reportedly agreed to this condition without hesitation. He clarified that the Battle of Galwan is not conceived as an anti-China film but as a tribute to the bravery of the Indian Armed Forces. The actor assured Singh that the film would focus on honouring the sacrifices of Indian soldiers and would instil national pride without disturbing diplomatic relations. The movie is directed by Apoorva Lakhia and is currently being shot in Ladakh. It will be released in the first half of 2026. Stay tuned...
