Mumbai, September 17 - Over the year, Bollywood has produced multiple successful film franchises, including courtroom comedy drama Jolly LLB. Directed by Subhash Kapoor, the Jolly LLB series has grown from a modest courtroom satire into one of the most reliable franchises. Well, the fan favourite franchise has returned with the third instalment with stacks higher than before.
Both the Jollys, Arshad Warsi and Akshay Kumar, who headlined the first two films separately, have come together for Jolly LLB 3, which is scheduled to release on September 19. With less than 2 days to go before the release, the trade is anticipating it to repeat the success of the first two movies and is hopeful that it will take things a notch higher.
Jolly LLB (2013) -
Released in 2013, Jolly LLB featured Arshad Warsi in the lead alongside Amrita Rao, Saurabh Shukla, and Boman Irani. Made on a modest budget of around 15 crores, the film emerged as a surprise success thanks to its sharp satire on corruption in the legal system. At the box office, it grossed around 46 crore worldwide, including ₹43.75 crore from India, and drew close to 35 lakh footfalls.
The film received praise for the direction and story, along with appreciation for the lead cast. Its impact was further amplified when it went on to win the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi, establishing a solid foundation for a franchise. Saurabh Shukla, who has been a major reason behind the franchise's success, won the National Award for Best Supporting Actor.
Jolly LLB 2 (2017) – Star Power Takes The Franchise To New Highs -
The sequel arrived in 2017 with Akshay Kumar stepping into the role of the quirky lawyer, replacing Arshad. The results were phenomenal as Jolly LLB 2 collected superb around 197 crore worldwide gross, out of which 162.50 crore came from India, while footfalls rose more than 3x to nearly 1.20 crore.
This massive jump in both revenue and audience turnout showed the difference that star power could make, transforming the series from a small hit into a full-fledged blockbuster franchise. It also won multiple awards at different awards shows.
Can Both Jollys Take Jolly LLB 3 Past Its Predecessor -
As said, the stakes are higher than before, and with both Arshad Warsi and Akshay Kumar coming together for the first time in the series, expectations are running high for Jolly LLB 3. The first two films combined have already amassed around 250 crore worldwide with over 1.50 crore footfalls, proving the franchise's strong box office pull.
If the third instalment successfully blends its signature mix of satire, courtroom drama, and entertainment, it has every chance to surpass the benchmark set by Jolly LLB 2 and solidify Jolly LLB as one of Bollywood's most enduring courtroom sagas. The franchise films have seen a higher ratio of failure than success this year, but the trade is optimistic about Jolly LLB 3.
