Makers Keeping Short Theatrical Window For 'Pushpa - The Rise' Despite Strong Box Office Outcome

Hyderabad, January 4 - Allu Arjun's "Pushpa - The Rise" is going all guns blazing at the box office. The Pan-India film has become one of the biggest box office success stories of 2021 despite many challenges. Not only in the original Telugu language, but the action-thriller is also doing wonders in Hindi, Tamil, and Malayalam dubbed verions. ## Directed by Sukumar, the movie has shattered many box office records during the covid-19 pandemic has so far grossed over Rs. 270 crores worldwide. It is still reporting Housefull shows at most of the centers, which indicates its wide acceptance by the audiences across the nation. ## "Pushpa - The Rise" box office juggernaut might not continue in the coming days, as the makers are planning to drop the movie on OTT real soon. According to the latest reports, "Pushpa - The Rise" will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on January 7, only after just 21 days of its theatrical release. This is shockingly a shorter window for a box office monster as most of the other films are keeping at least 4 weeks' theatrical window. ## The reports suggest that makers had inked a 3-week theatrical window deal with Amazon Prime Video and they are keeping it despite knowing the box office outcome. Interestingly, the "Pushpa" Hindi version is performing stronger in the 3rd week than the first two weeks at the box office. Since there is no new release, the movie could have continued to do very well at the box office, which might not be a case now after it gets released on Prime Video. ## Produced by Mythri Movie Makers, and Muttamsetty Media, "Pushpa - The Rise" also stars Rashmika Mandanna who plays the female lead opposite Allu Arjun. Fahadh Faasil plays the primary antagonist in the film. It is a two-part release, which is set in the backdrop of the world of illegal Sandalwood smuggling in the Seshachallam Hills of Andhra Pradesh. ## Stay tuned...

Box Office 2021: Tollywood Dethrone Bollywood To Emerge The Indian Box Office King

Hyderabad, January 4 - The Telugu cinema, for the first time in many many years, had had a bigger impact on the Indian box office than the mighty Bollywood, which has ruled the Indian biz over the years. The lack of Bollywood content helped the second largest film industry of India, Tollywood to keep the show running in 2021. ## In 2021, there were a total of 471 (+) films released in theaters in India. The theatrical releases in 2021 generated approx Rs. 3200 crores gross in India, approx +60% than 2020. Marvel/Sony's superhero film "Spider-Man: No Way Home" emerged as the biggest grosser of 2021 in India with Rs. 240 crores, followed by Akshay Kumar's "Sooryavanshi" with Rs. 230.8 crores. ## However, it was the Telugu film industry, which dominated the Indian box office biz. In 2021, a total of 175 (+) Telugu titles were released in theaters and generated Rs. 1070 crores gross, including the Telugu versions of other films, in India. Allu Arjun's "Pushpa - The Rise" led the Telugu biz with a gross collection of Rs. 150 crores in 2021 in India. Pawan Kalyan's "Vakeel Saab" was the second biggest Telugu title with Rs. 127 crores. ## It was not all doom and gloom for the Hindi cinema. The largest film industry in the country, Bollywood found some life towards the end of 2021, when "Sooryavanshi" was released along with Hindi dubbed titles of "Pusha - The Rise", and "Spider-Man: No Way Home". "Sooryavanshi" emerged as the biggest Bollywood hit since Ajay Devgn's "Tanjaji" in January 2020. The Rohit Shetty-directed grossed Rs. 230.8 crores in India, and was the biggest Indian title of 2021 at the worldwide box office with Rs. 293 crores. ## Last year, a total of 55 films (+) were released in Hindi, including dubbed versions, and grossed approx Rs. 760 crores in India, making the Hindi version the second largest after Telugu to contribute to the Indian box office. Tamil, which saw a mega-hit in the form of Thalapathy Vijay's "Master", was the third biggest in terms of box office contributor in Indian in 2021. ## The Tamil version saw as many as 93 titles (+), which generated approx Rs. 700 crore gross in 2021 in India. "Master" along with Rajinikanth's "Annaatthe" were the two Tamil films that grossed over Rs. 100 crores in India alone. Sivakarthikeyan's "Doctor" was the third biggest Tamil title of 2021. It grossed Rs. 100.50 crores worldwide, including Rs. 80.50 crores at the Indian box office (both Tamil and Telugu versions). ## The Kannada film industry too had something to show in its CV in 2021. There were 77 films (+) released in the Kannada language and grossed Rs. 244 crores in India. Darshan's "Roberrt" was the biggest Kannada title with a gross total of Rs. 69.50 crores. The Malayalam film industry has had a dismal show in 2021, in which most of the Malayalam films took direct-to-digital routes via various OTT platforms. Only 41 (+) Malalayam titles were released in 2021, which could contribute only approx Rs. 170 crores. ## Stay tuned...

Sony Pictures Pushed Jared Leto's 'Morbius' Release Date For 7th Time

Mumbai, January 4 - Jared Leto's vampire film "Morbius" is on the movie again after being delayed by 3 months by Sony Pictures. Previously slated for January 28, the Marvel movie will now debut in theaters on April 1st, 2022, in IMAX and premium large formats. ## This is 7th time Sony has pushed the "Morbius" release date since July 2020. The movie was originally slated for 10 July 2020, before being pushed back to 31st July over covid-19 fear. It was later announced for March 19, 2021, however, with covid cases on the rise again, it was decided for October 8, 2021, release.## While October 2021 was finally looking good for "Morbius", it had to make way for Sony's "Venom 2", which grabbed the October slot, and "Morbius" was pushed back to January 21 and then January 28, 2022. This time, things were looking all set for the superhero film, but dynamics have changed due to the Omicron variant of covid, which is said to be more infectious than the Delta. ## However, according to Deadline, the one factor motivating the push of "Morbius" was Sony's huge (continuing) success with Spider-Man: No Way Home, which established itself as the highest-grossing film of 2021 upon its December 17 debut. The Tom Holland-fronted is currently going strong at the box office and grossed $1.37 billion so far. It is said that Sony wants to give "No Way Home" a long run at the box office at the cost of postponement of "Morbius". ## In Morbius, Leto portrays the enigmatic antihero Michael Morbius. Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. While at first, it seems to be a radical success, the darkness inside him is unleashed. Will good override evil—or will Morbius succumb to his mysterious new urges?## Directed by Daniel Espinosa, the movie also stars Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, Jared Harris, Al Madrigal, and Tyrese Gibson. ## Stay tuned...

Tigmanshu Dhulia To Write And Direct Salman Khan-Fronted 'Dabangg 4'

Mumbai, January 3 - Bollywood superstar Salman Khan, on a couple of occasions, has confirmed the next installment of the Dabangg film franchise. It was recently revealed that Tigmanshu Dhulia has been writing the script of "Dabangg 4", and according to the latest reports, the talented filmmaker will also be donning the director's hat for cop-comedy drama film. ## "Bhai has asked Tigmanshu to re-write the cop Chulbul Pandey role. Chulbul will still be a lot of fun. But not a masti-khore like he used to be. Given his growing years, Salman wants Chulbul and the plot to take a more serious route this time", a Wion report states.## Interestingly, the first three Dabangg films were directed by three different directors, such as Abhinav Kashyap, Arbaaz Khan, and Prabhudheva. While the first two films were very well received by critics and movie lovers, the Prabhu Deva-directed "Dabangg 3" came under the scanner for not-so-good writing and story. ## It has been revealed that Salman Khan wanted the Franchise to go into a more realistic zone, and hence, he roped in Tigmanshu to write and direct "Dabangg 4". Dhulia who recently directed Amit Sadh and Vidyut Jamwal in the buddy flick "Yaara", has confirmed that he is writing the script at the moment, according to Wion report. ## Stay tuned...

During a recent interaction with Film Companion, the Dharma Productions head revealed that to create hype and buzz around films, producers paid money to critics to give positive reviews to attract the audiences.## In a viral video, Karan Johar is revealing that apart from a few critics whom the producers can't pay to manipulate reviews, most of the critics charge money to give 3 to 4 stars to a movie. Mumbai, January 3 - Tom Holland's "Spider-Man: No Way Home" becomes only the 3rd Hollywood film to reach Rs. 200 crores (Rs. 202.34 cr) net in India, after "Avengers: Endgame" (Rs.373.05 cr), and "Avengers: Infinity War" (Rs. 228.50 cr). Interestingly, all three films belong to Marvel, which is the most loved movie brand in India. ## The finale of Holland's Home Coming trilogy, "No Way Home" has given a new lease of life to India's exhibition sector. It is only the second title of 2021 to reach Rs. 200 crores net mark, after Telugu blockbuster "Pushpa - The Rise", which was released a day after "No Way Home" on December 17, and currently stands at Rs. 207 crores India net. ## "No Way Home", meanwhile, opened to the third biggest box office numbers in India for a 2021's title. It will, however, be interesting to see whether it could reach Rs. 300 crores gross at the Indian box office, knowing the fact that many Indian states, especially in the North, are imposing new restrictions on theaters due to the rising covid-19 cases in the country. ## Stay tuned...

Tom Holland Set To Fetch Massive Pay Day After Blockbuster Success of 'Spider-Man: No Way Home'

Los Angeles, January 2 - Tom Holland, the 25-year old British actor, is in line to become the next big thing in the Hollywood film industry. The young talented actor has just delivered the biggest blockbuster of the covid-19 pandemic era in the form of "Spider-Man: No Way Home", which becomes the first film since December 2019 to gross $1 billion at worldwide box office. ## The instant box office blockbuster has had many factors that worked very well in favor of it, but it was Holland's peppy, quippy and youthful take on the role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man that gives the comic-book epic its zip and heart. The success of "No Way Home" could lead Holland into the elite league of Hollywood stars. ## According to Variety, Holland's brand and bankability have seen an exponential rise, thanks to his iconic superhero role, which he first played in "Captain America: Civil War" (2015). It is said that prior to his first Marvel appearance, Holland made less than $1 million per role in movies. Now, he could be making $2 million to $5 million for independent movies. ## The fact that "No Way Home" is proved to be the biggest hit for Holland, and according to a Variety report, the actor is set to hike his remuneration to feature in a leading role in traditional studio's commercial film from here on. The report suggests Holland's asking price should leap into the low eight-figures while at streamers, the Marvel star's paycheck could swing to $20 million or more. ## Tom Holland, however, has to deliver outside Marvel movies to continue to fetch higher paycheck in the future. While there is no doubt he perfectly lived up to expectations as Spider-Man at the box office, a huge test for his big screen prowess will be Sony's upcoming big-budget action adventure film "Uncharted", in which Holland is playing the young fortune hunter Nathan Drake. It is slated to release in February 2022. ## Stay tuned...
