Box Office: Avatar 2 Crosses 300 Crores Net In India

Mumbai, December 30 - The Avatar mania continues to drive the Indian audiences crazy and is going great guns at the box office. ## The James Cameron-directed sci-fi epic, Avatar: The Way of Water has completed two blockbuster weeks at the Indian box office, minting 294.10 crores net (359 crores gross). It is heading toward another big week after jumping around 5% on its 3rd Friday for approx. 10 crores net.## The Avatar sequel has crossed 300 crores net collection, 304 crores approx in all languages on its 15th day, and becomes only the second non-Indian film to reach the milestone, after "Avengers: Endgame" (374 crores). The movie is having record collections in Southern Indian states, led by the original English language. ## It has netted approx. 160 crores in the English language, followed by approx. 98 crores in Hindi. It will be hitting 100 crores net in Hindi by tomorrow (3rd Saturday). Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam versions have combined scored approx. 45 crores net in 15 days. ## "Avatar 2" is very much on track to beat "Avengers: Endgame" in India in its lifetime run. Mumbai, December 30 - Filmmaker Sooraj Barjatya's first directorial in seven years, Uunchai has completed 50 glorious days in theaters and still playing over 140 screens across the country in its 8th week.## The friendship drama has been a successful venture for the makers at the box office with a worldwide gross collection of around 50 crores to date. While most films run out of fuel, "Uunchai" is holding its fort strongly despite being a mid-budget film. ## Starring Amitabh Bachchan, Anupam Kher, Boman Irani, Danny Denzongpa, and Parineeti Chopra among others, "Uunchai" is now gearing up for its digital release. It will be Thalapathy Vijay's Varisu (12 Jan.) and Ajith Kumar's Thunivu (11 Jan.) at the Tamil box office while megastar Chiranjeevi's Waltair Veerayya (13 Jan.) and Nandamuri Balakrishna's Veera Simha Reddy (12 Jan.) in Telugu. ## The Telugu box office seems to be more complicated this festival season as the aforementioned Telugu films will be facing tough competition with the above-mentioned Tamil blockbuster. Mythri Movie Makers, one of the biggest production houses in Telugu, has produced "Waltair Veerayya" and "Veera Simha Reddy". ## Producer Dil Raju, the powerhouse in the Telugu industry, has produced Thalapathy Vijay's "Varisu" which will also be released in the Telugu language as "Varasudu". The maverick filmmaker's recent films - "Baahubali" films and "RRR" made a huge impact on audiences across the world and made Rajamouli arguably the biggest director in India. ## The blockbuster director has time and again spoken about his dream project which is epic Mahabharta. Speaking about the same, Rajamouli had said in one of the interviews earlier this year that he needs to learn more craft to helm this epic, and he has once reiterated that same.## During a recent interview with Deadline, Rajamouli was asked about his dream project. The filmmaker said that he wanted to direct big-scale war films for a long time and with "Baahubali", he achieved that goal, and now, "Mahabharata" is something that he would love to direct someday. ## "For a long time I wanted to do a big-scale war film, but that I have done with Baahubali, so my goal, or my dream, has been fulfilled. So, the biggest one for me would be to direct Mahabharata, the Indian epic. That would probably be a 10-year project. That would be my biggest dream. Rama Rao Jr. (N.T.R.) in the leading role, "RRR" has been immensely successful in the west and made Rajamouli a filmmaker to watch out for there. This unbelievable success of the movie has led to the discussion of its sequel. ## Rajamouli revealed that he initially had dropped the idea of making the RRR's sequel, but when he witnessed the massive response in the West and seriously gave thought to make "RRR". Los Angeles, December 28 - There is no stopping Tom Cruise's Top Gun: Maverick as it is now soaring to new heights on digital platforms after breaking records at the box office. ## The blockbuster sequel, which debuted on Paramount+ on December 22 in the USA, scored the biggest-ever opening weekend in the history of Paramount Plus. Paramount didn't disclose specific viewership numbers but according to Deadline, "Top Gun 2" surpassed "Sonic the Hedgehog's" previous premiere weekend viewership record by 60%.## "Top Gun 2" is the sequel to Cruise's "Top Gun" (1986) and in order to watch the former, audiences refreshed their memories on the original Top Gun movie, which saw viewership increase by about 400%. Cruise's "Mission Impossible" also witnessed a 140% jump in viewership on Paramount+.## In addition to the U.S. "Top Gun: Maverick" also debuted on Paramount+ in Canada, Australia, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, the UK, and Latin America. Avatar Confirmed Titles of Its Sequels

Los Angeles, December 28 - Blockbuster filmmaker James Cameron's Avatar: The Way of Water has officially crossed the $1 billion mark at the global box office and all it took to reach the milestone is just 14 days since its global rollout began on December 25. ## "Avatar: The Way of Water" is the 3rd James Cameron-directed movie to top $1 billion globally after "Titanic" (1997) and "Avatar" (2007). Cameron's next films will be "Avatar 3" and "Avatar 4" while it is not yet confirmed whether he will direct the 5th installment of "The Avatar" franchise.## The third installment of "Avatar" has been titled Avatar: The Seed Bearer which is scheduled to hit theaters on December 20, 2024. Cameron revealed that 95% shot of "Avatar 3" has already been completed along with 5% initial portion of "Avatar 4", which is titled Avatar: The Tulkun Rider is also done. "Avatar 4" will hit theaters on December 18, 2026. ## "Avatar 5", which is not yet confirmed who will direct, has been titled Avatar: The quest for Eywa and it will be released on December 22, 2028. It scored the 6th biggest opening weekend for Netflix of all time. ## The top five biggest Netflix films in the opening weekend are "Red Notice (148.72 million hours), "Don't Look Up" (111.03 million hours), "The Adam Project" (92.43 million hours), "The Gray Man" (88.55 million hours), and "The Unforgivable" (85.86 million hours). ## "Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery" is the first Netflix movie to get a theatrical release from all three major American theater chains (AMC Theatres, Cinemark Theatres, and Regal Cinemas) after director Johnson pushed the streamer for big screen release first.## The movie had a low release in over 700 theaters in North America but made a big impact as it grossed around $13 million over the five-day holiday weekend. It minted $317.10 million domestically (North America) and $712.70 million at the international box office. It is the 52nd film ever to top $1 billion at the global box office and 6th fastest ever.## China has been the leading international box office market of "Avatar 2" with $108.50 million, followed by France with $68.2 million.
