Salman Khan's 'Radhe' Falls Flat Despite Record Viewership On The First Day

Mumbai, May 18, 2021: Salman Khan starrer Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai was released on May 13 on multiple digital platforms via pay-per-view model owing to the covid-19 pandemic. It was a move, many expected, will bring the change of releasing movies going forward. ## However, since the pay-per-view model is completely new to the Indian audience, especially for the masses, people are wondering whether this move did benefit ZeePlex, which is the primary partner of Radhe. According to data shared by Zee, Radhe gained a massive number of views, around 4.2 million or approx Rs. 105 crores, on day 1. ## However, trade analysts believe that the pay-per-view model is impractical, given rampant piracy. According to Shailesh Kapoor of Ormax Media, which specializes in media research and tracking, a "Radhe" like the film is expected to get at least 30 million lifetime views, which is looking unlikely in this case. He also said that the pay-per-view model is premature in India to give a try. ## "Our estimates suggest that about eight to 10 million have viewed the film, with four million having watched it on the first day. But to gauge whether the pay-per-view model is sustainable, using Radhe as an example, is premature. The film hasn't been appreciated. One would expect a film like this to get 30 million lifetime views. Laxmmi got about 20 million views. But that movie had the benefit of being on Disney+Hotstar, whose viewership is four times that of any other platform", Shailesh Kapoor, according to mid-day. ## It is not necessary to say that piracy has been a big issue in India. Most of the films get leaked on pirated sites which does affect the lifetime views of a film. However, according to trade anylists, Radhe may have affected by piracy, this Salman Khan starrer has helped Zee platforms to add more new subscribers, which was the main goal for them. ## Meanwhile, Salman Khan and Zee Studios have taken note of piracy and warned people to avoid watching Radhe via pirated sites. Mumbai, May 11, 2021: Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has apologized to theater owners who were hoping actor's upcoming film, "Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai" to release in theaters and help them recover their losses due to the covid-19 pandemic. ## Directed by Prabhudheva, the movie will start streaming on multiple platforms, including OTT and DTH services, on May 13 at the festival of Eid. It will also release in theaters whenever they are open in India, though most of the states have shut the cinemas due to the second covid-19 wave. ## "I apologize to cinema owners who were hoping to earn profits with the release of this film. We waited as long as we could, hoping that this pandemic would end and we would be able to release in theatres all over the country. But that did not happen. We don't know when things will go back to normal", Salman Khan told reporters in a roundtable interview from Mumbai. ## "I couldn't have kept my Eid commitment with fans without the support of ZEE. It was important to release the film at a time like this because people are suffering due to the pandemic. Incomes have reduced for many, so now, instead of spending a lot of money on tickets at the cinemas, people can watch it at a much cheaper rate at home. I want to provide some entertainment to people at a grim time like this", Salman said. ## However, the actor again expressed his desire to release the film in theaters when things subside and it is 'safe' for people to visit cinema halls. ## "I know people are disappointed that they will not be able to watch Radhe on the big screen. Mumbai, May 10, 2021: Legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan joined a host of international personalities in a globally televised special titled Global Citizen's VAX LIVE: The Concert to Reunite the World. The concert, which included US President Joe Biden and Pope Francis, aims to inspire vaccine confidence worldwide and help get the Covid-19 vaccine to everyone everywhere. ## The concert, hosted by pop star Selena Gomez, has been pre-taped at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles and aired globally on Sunday evening according to India time. The show included a night of musical performances by Jennifer Lopez, Eddie Vedder, Foo Fighters, J Balvin, and H.E.R, and joined by Ben Affleck, Chrissy Teigen, David Letterman, Gayle King, Jimmy Kimmel, Nomzamo Mbatha, Olivia Munn, and Sean Penn.## Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, are serving as Campaign Chairs of VAX LIVE and delivered an important global message for vaccine equity during the event. President Emmanuel Macron of France, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada, and Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic of Croatia also made appearances. ## Big B shared an urgent plea from India, where cases continue to rise during the second wave of covid-19, saying, "My country India is battling with the sudden surge of the second wave of COVID-19. As a global citizen, I appeal to all global citizens to rise up, speak to your governments, your pharmaceutical companies, and ask them to donate, to give, to extend a helping hand to the public that needs it the most. Every effort counts".## In their video address, President Biden said that the US is "working with leaders around the world to share more vaccines and boost production to make sure every country has the vaccines they need".## VAX LIVE is part of Global Citizen's overall 2021 Recovery Plan for the World, a year-long campaign and series of events that aims to help end Covid-19 for all, end the hunger crisis, resume learning everywhere, protect the planet, and advance equity for all.
