Tamil OTT Blockbuster 'Soorarai Pottru' To Be Remade In Hindi

Mumbai, July 12, 2021: After taking the OTT world by storm, Suriya's monster hit, Soorarai Pottru is all set to be remade in Hindi. Suriya's production house, 2D Entertainment, joins hands with Vikram Malhotra's Abundantia Entertainment to produce the Hindi version of this critically acclaimed and widely appreciated film. ## "The love and appreciation that was showered on Soorarai Pottru was unprecedented. From the minute I heard this story I felt this has to be a pan India film because the soul of it is such. It gives me immense pleasure to partner with Abundantia Entertainment, who have always made quality content, to tell the inspiring story of Captain Gopinath in Hindi", Suriya said in a statement. ## Abundantia Entertainment has made some well-received and critically acclaimed films such as Airlift, Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, Sherni, Shakuntala Devi, among others. It has the mega 'Ram Setu' and Amazon Prime show 'The End' in the works. And now, with the Soorarai Pottru remake, the production house makes sure the list gets richer. ## Sudha Kongara, who directed the original Tamil version, will also be helming the Hindi remake too. "I was instantly drawn to the story of Soorarai Pottru, the story of Captain Gopinath, an adventurous maverick and an inspiring entrepreneur who epitomized the New India of the 90s. I'm grateful for all the love we have received so far and look forward to telling this unique and amazing story in Hindi. I hope this official Hindi remake also gets the same love as the original", Sudha said in a statement. ## Soorarai Pottru is a biopic drama film, partly inspired by events from the life of Simplifly Deccan founder G. R. Gopinath. It was selected as one among ten Indian films to be screened under the Best Foreign Film category at the 78th Golden Globe Awards. The film was made available for screening at the 93rd Academy Awards but was not nominated. Apart from Suriya, the movie also starred Paresh Rawal, and Aparna Balamurali with Urvashi, Mohan Babu, and Karunas amongst others in supporting roles. ## The cast and crew for the Hindi remake are yet to be finalized. Meanwhile, Shahid Kapoor was rumored to be approached to play Suriya's role in the Hindi remake, ever before the film release on Amazon Prime Video. Mumbai, July 10, 2021: After months of speculations, two of the very talented actor of Bollywood, Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan has been confirmed to star in the Hindi remake of Tamil blockbuster movie, Vikram Vedha. Not only that but the makers also confirmed that the movie will be hitting theaters on 30 September 2022. ## The release date announcement of the Vikram Vedha Hindi remake has set up a potential box office clash with Ranbir Kapoor starrer Animal. The makers of Sandeep Reddy Vanga directorial had already announced that Animal will be making its debut on Dussehra 2022 (October 5). ## Both the movie, as of now, will release a week apart and if the makers of both Vikram Vedha remake and Animal go ahead with their pre-planned release dates, then the fans are surely on a treat for something special. However, there is nothing certain as the present situation might change the dynamics for both films. But, one can hope that things will become completely normal by then and they will get to witness one of the biggest box office clashes of the year. ## Talking about Vikram Vedha, the director duo Pushkar-Gayathri, who impressed the Tamil audience with the R Madhavan and Vijay Sethupathi starrer, will now helm the Hindi version with Hrithik and Saif in the lead roles. The Tamil action-thriller released in 2017 and received a positive response at the box office.## The movie was inspired by the Indian folktale Baital Pachisi. The film tells the story of Vikram (Madhavan), a police inspector who sets out to track down and kill Vedha (Sethupathi), a gangster. After Vedha voluntarily surrenders himself, he tells Vikram three stories that change his perceptions of good and evil. The film, also starring Shraddha Srinath, was produced by S Sashikanth. ## On the other hand, Animal is a crime drama film starring Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role. The movie will also star debonair Anil Kapoor, Parineeti Chopra, and Bobby Deol in the prominant roles. Sailesh Kolanu, who directed the original film, will also be helming the Hindi version. Aged 98, Dilip Kumar was credited with bringing the method style into Hindi cinema and was widely known as the "Tragedy King". ## Dilip Kumar started his acting career with Jwar Bhata in 1944 and acted in 62 films in a career that spanned over five decades. Starring in some of the all-time classic films, Kumar is widely regarded as the finest actor India has ever produced. Some of his best-known films include Aan, Daag, Devdas, Madhumati, Azaad, Mughal-e-Azam, Gunga Jamuna, Kranti, Karma, and Ram Aur Shyam.## The legendary actor was awarded the inaugural Filmfare Award for best actor in 1954 for the film "Daag" - a romantic drama film produced and directed by Amiya Chakravarty. Mumbai, July 7, 2021: Vineet Jain of Junglee Pictures has acquired the life rights of Jeevajothi Santhakumar, who fought a lengthy legal battle against the dosa king, P. Rajagopal who was accused of the murder of Jeevajothi's husband Prince Santhakumar, and eventually being convicted of the crime by the Hon'ble Supreme Court.## Junglee Pictures has collaborated with the renowned screenwriter Bhavani Iyer to pen this story which traces the making of the rags-to-riches businessman, a connoisseur of food, who founded the biggest south Indian food chain that has over 100 outlets across 28 countries. It will also delve into how Rajagopal obsessively tried to take Jeevajothi, the daughter of one of his employees, as his third wife on the advice of an astrologer. ## Jeevajothi was already married to Prince Santhakumar and rejected P Rajagopal who was double her age at that time. The rejection didn't go well with the restaurant mogul, and after one attempted murder, he successfully orchestrated the murder of her husband Santhakumar. He was convicted for a 2001 murder, and began serving a life sentence in July 2019. Several days after his imprisonment, he had a heart attack and died. ## Jeevajothi Santhakumar, who is looking forward to sharing her story with the world, said to Bollywood Hungama, "I am overwhelmed and elated by Junglee Pictures’ decision to make a feature film about my legal and emotional battle with this affluent hotelier, a struggle that went on for 18 years. I am confident that seeing this story on the big screen will bring about a drastic change in the status quo of patriarchy". ## Bhavani Iyer, who also penned Raazi, collaborating with Junglee Pictures for the second time. She is excited to join Junglee Pictures again for an aspirational story of Jeevajothi Santhakumar who fought a long battle against an incredibly powerful person and has survived to tell the tale. "So in our story, one character is a true survivor, while the other is a classic example of what power and delusion can lead to. Writing this is a fabulous challenge and I am so excited to get started", Iyer said. ## The makers of the film will soon announce the star cast for this project based on a case that was covered nationwide and even internationally, for close to two decades until it finally culminated in a landmark Supreme Court judgment in 2019. The movie will be directed by Karan Johar, who marks his comeback in film direction after 5 years. His last directorial film was Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan starrer, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. ## The film, Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, was supposed to be announced last year but due to the covid-19 pandemic, the makers delayed the announcement. The movie features Ranveer and Alia as Rocky and Rani, which is said to revolve around family values and love. It will be produced by Hiroo Johar, Apoorva Mehta, and Karan Johar under the banner of Dharma Productions while Ishita Moitra, Shashank Khaitan, and Sumit Roy have written the script. ## Jaya Bachchan, who has worked with Karan before in Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham and Kal Ho Na Ho, will be playing Ranveer Singh's grandmother while Shabana Azmi and Dharmendra are also coming together for the second time after Mardon Wali Baat in 1988. Anand L Rai has directed and co-produced this romantic drama film. It is reported that Rai and Sara had a great experience working on the sets of Atrangi Re, which is going to be a great cinematic experience once it comes out. ## "Sara has now been approached for Rai's next production film which is titled 'Nakhrewali'. She will be seen essaying the titular role. It is definitely going to be an out-and-out entertainer", said a source according to TOI. The largest film industry in the country, Bollywood has mastered adapting films from different languages - be it regional or international, and also able to give them a Bollywood touch to lure the Hindi audiences. ## In the last one and a half-decade, Bollywood stars have done films like Ghajini, Gabbar Is Back, Force, Singham, Shubh Mangal Saavdhan, Simmba, Son of Sardaar, Wanted, Rowdy Rathore, Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, Kabir Singh, and Baaghi, which all are remakes of Tamil and Telugu films but proved to be some of the highest grosser of its respective release years. ## Even though the Hindi filmmakers have often been criticized for the lack of fresh ideas, they continued to acquire the Hindi remakes of other languages. It is a remake of the 2019 Telugu movie of the same name starring Nani in the lead role. Ajay Devgn is also doing the Hindi version of the 2019 Tamil action thriller film, Kaithi. Ajay in association with Dil Raju also acquired the remake rights of the 2021 Telugu hit, Naandhi. ## Recently, it was revealed that Akshay Kumar's next film with Bell Bottom makers is the remake of the 2018 Tamil psychological crime thriller film, Ratsasan. Last year, John Abraham had bought the rights to the 2020 Malayalam thriller film Ayyappanum Koshiyum, in which he will also be starring alongside Abhishek Bachchan. ## Acclaimed filmmaker, S Shankar announced that he will be remaking his own 2005 Tamil film, Anniyan in Hindi with Ranveer Singh playing the lead role. The film will mark Shankar's return to Hindi films twenty years after his only Hindi directorial, Nayak (2001) that starred Anil Kapoor in the lead. Kabir Singh producer Murad Khetani of Cine1 Studios along with Endemol Shine India, and 7 Screen Studio also bought the remake rights of the 2021's biggest hit Tamil film, Master, starring Thalapathy Vijay and Vijay Sethupathy. Salman Khan is said to be starring the Hindi remake. ## There are some reports claiming that Salman Khan has bought the Hindi remake rights of Ravi Teja's upcoming film, Khiladi. Boney Kapoor is remaking the 2021 Malayalam political thriller, One along with 'Helen' with his daughter Janhavi Kapoor in the lead, followed by the 2019 Tamil film 'Comali' with his son Arjun Kapoor. ## The time and cinema viewing might have changed for others, it is still hasn't changed much for Hindi filmmakers when it comes to remakes. Mumbai, July 5, 2021: Hindi film producer, Dinesh Vijan has acquired rights of the author Anuja Chauhan's latest bestselling novel, "Club You to Death", which introduces ACP Bhavani Singh into the pantheon of compelling quirky, and unforgettable detectives in popular culture. ## The novel is about a hunky personal trainer who is found asphyxiated to death at the posh Delhi Turf Club, on the eve of the club elections. At first, it looks like a freak accident but soon, it becomes clear that one of the members of the DTC – all pickled-in-privilege Dilliwallahs – is a cold-blooded killer. ## As the capital bristles with speculation and conspiracy theories, Crime Branch veteran ACP Bhavani Singh is appointed to investigate the case. Alaya F To Star In The Hindi Remake Of Kannada Film U-Turn; To Be Produced By Ekta Kapoor

Mumbai, July 5, 2021: It is raining remakes in the Bollywood film industry. Having already dozens of remakes in the making, filmmaker Ekta Kapoor has locked one more Hindi remake. She will be producing the Hindi remake of the 2016 Kannada supernatural thriller film, U-Turn, which starred Shraddha Srinath in the lead role. ## The Hindi remake will be headed by Aalia Furniturewalla, who made a smashing debut with the 2020 comedy-drama film, Jawaani Jaaneman. U-Turn remake will be Alaya F's only second film that will be directed by debutante Arif Khan. The supernatural thriller film will be backed by Cult Movies, a new division launched under Ekta Kapoor's Balaji Telefilms while the shooting will commence on July 6 in Mumbai. ## Speaking about Alyay's role in the film, producer Ekta Kapoor said, "Alaya was fantastic in her debut film. There's a self-assured yet vulnerable quality to her that I believe can connect with audiences. U-Turn takes you on a ride with twists and turns galore, and provides edge-of-the-seat excitement". ## Alaya, too, is delighted about the opportunity that has come her way. The talented star kid shared that working with Ekta so early in her career is very exciting, especially since the project is so interesting. Alaya went on to add, "I feel responsible to be given the task to drive such an intriguing story". ## The plot of the film revolves around the death of motorists who break a traffic rule at a particular flyover in Bangalore and subsequent pinning down of the culprit by an intern journalist and police inspector duo. U-Turn has already been remade in multiple Indian and international languages. ## The film was remade in Malayalam in 2017 as Careful. It was later remade into a Telugu-Tamil bilingual in 2018 with Samantha Akkineni in the lead role. The film was also officially remade in Sri Lanka in Sinhala in 2019 with the same title.
