Mumbai, November 16 - It took one big shot for the Bollywood film industry to regain its lost kingdom. Akshay Kumar-starrer "Sooryavanshi", which is the biggest Bollywood film in the last 18 months, has become the highest-grossing Indian film of 2021 at the worldwide box office. ## Rohit Shetty-directed cop drama has grossed ₹ 234 crores worldwide over 11 days and surpassed Thalapathy Vijay's Tamil blockbuster "Master", which grossed approx ₹ 223 crores at the worldwide box office. "Sooryavanshi" has netted ₹ 155.73 crores, which is the highest for an Indian film in 2021. ## Internationally, "Sooryavanshi" has grossed ₹ 50.37 crores so far, which is again the biggest overseas box office number for an Indian film in the current year. Rajinikanth's "Annaatthe" is at the second position with approx ₹ 45 crores overseas. Over ₹ 150 crore-budgeted, "Sooryavanshi" is the first ₹ 200 crores grosser Bollywood film since Ajay Devgn's "Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior" in January 2020. ## Co-produced by Reliance Entertainment, Rohit Shetty, Dharma Productions, and Cape Of Good Films, "Sooryavanshi" is the 5th highest net collection film for Akshay Kumar after Housefull 4, Mission Mangal, Good Newwz, and 2.0. For Katrina Kaif, who plays a female lead opposite Akshay, it is the 6th highest-netted film and likely to enter the top 5 at the end of its box office run. ## "Sooryavanshi", which also stars Ajay Devgn and Ranveer Singh in the extended cameos, has been an important film for Bollywood and one would say, it has passed the tough test. However, due to the second covid-19 wave, the makers thought it won't be ready by the end of this year, hence they decided to postpone it again to Valentine's Day weekend 2022, and announced it with much enthusiasm. ## The latest development around this big-budgeted film is that even February 2022 release looks uncertain. According to reports, the post-production of LSC will take a lot of time and it won't be ready by the said announced date. It is said that Aamir has now decided to postpone it by 2-3 months, and will release it in mid-2022. ## "Laal Singh Chaddha's post-production will take a lot of time. There's so much work pending in its post-production and it can no way be ready for a February release. It's a film made on a big canvas and requires at least six months of post-production work. Box Office: Sooryavanshi Go Past 150 Crores India Net After Strong Second Weekend

Mumbai, November 15 - Sooryavanshi continued its box office juggernaut and scored a brilliant ₹ 30.68 crores (estimate) in the second weekend. The strong second weekend helped this Akshay Kumar-fronted to go past ₹ 150 crores net in India, the 6th highest domestic figure for him. ## "Sooryavanshi" dropped 50% from the first Sunday for its second Sunday collection of ₹ 13.39 crores and down by 60% on the second weekend as compared to ₹ 77.08 crores in the opening Diwali weekend. The current domestic net collection for Rohit Shetty-directed stands at ₹ 151.23 crores after 10 days.## Overseas, "Sooryavanshi" has grossed approx ₹ 50 crores so far, which is the best overseas box office number for a Bollywood movie since December 2019 when Akshay's own film, "Good Newwz" grossed ₹ 74 crores. The total worldwide box office collection of "Sooryavanshi" stands at ₹ 228 crores, which is again, 6th highest gross worldwide total for the Bell Bottom actor. ## Katrina Kaif, who plays the female lead in "Sooryavanshi" also scored her 6th highest domestic earner. For director Rohit Shetty, "Sooryavanshi" becomes the 4th highest domestic net collection film, after "Simmba" (₹ 340 cr.), "Chennai Express" (₹ 227 cr.), and "Golmaal Again" (₹ 205.69 cr.). ## On the other hand, the Tamil movie "Annaatthe", featuring superstar Rajinikanth in the lead role, has crossed ₹ 100 crores net the domestic box office. The action drama film has had a fantastic start, scoring over ₹ 82 crores in the opening 4-day weekend (Thu-Sun), however, due to heavy rainfall and flood-like situation in Tamil Nadu, the collection got affected. Over the second weekend, it earned ₹ 5.90 crores, which helps Siva-directed to cross the ₹ 100 crore mark. ## Overseas, "Annaatthe" has earned approx ₹ 45 crores so far, taking its total worldwide gross to ₹ 163 crores. It has released over 1100 screens overseas in 66 countries, which is the widest ever release for a Tamil movie. The first look teaser, which got released without pre-announcement on Nov. 15, introduces Akshay's character as "the lion of Hindustan". Visually stunning, the teaser is all about valor and heroism. It is packed with fight scenes and the background music is the soul of it, which is given by Sanchit Balhara, Ankit Balhara. Manush Nandan takes care of cinematography. ## The film is based on the life of fearless Prithviraj Chauhan, a legendary warrior who fought valiantly against the merciless invader Muhammad of Ghor. Mumbai, November 15 - Filmmaker Rohit Shetty having an interview tour over the super success of his recently released, "Sooryavanshi", which he held back for more than 18 months to give a theatrical release. The Akshay Kumar-fronted cop-drama is very well accepted by the audiences and everyone has nice things to say about this film. ## However, despite all the love and positive word of mouth from the audiences of every type, there is a certain media group that has been questioning the casting of the villain of a Muslim outfit in the film. In a recent interview with The Quint (via opindia), the journalist pointed out that the 'good Muslim' and 'bad Muslim' scenario in the film is problematic.## Rohit Shetty, however, countered the question with a befitting reply and asked the journalist why no one had a problem when he cast Hindu villains in his previous three cop films. He questioned why the Hindu villains from the previous films were not objected to because of their caste. ## "If I ask you one question... Jaikant Shikre (in Singham) was a Hindu Marathi. Then a second film came where a Hindu godman was there. Then in Simmba, Durva Ranade was a Maharashtrian again. In these three, negative forces were Hindu, why isn't that a problem?" Shetty countered. ## He went on to say when the journalist tried to counter his remarks, "If there is a terrorist who is from Pakistan, what caste will he be?" Shetty said that such controversies had changed his point of view about many journalists. He said, "It changed my point of view of a few journalists whom I used to like. That oh, they are portraying it like I have seen in brackets somebody writing bad Muslims being preached by upper-caste Hindus, which is very wrong. We never thought that way".## The basic plot of "Sooryavanshi" is about Pakistani terrorists plotting more attacks in India after the 1993 Mumbai blasts, and the hero's efforts to stop them. Shetty's cop films have always been centered around celebrating Police for the good work they are doing on the line of duty. When The Quint journalist asked Shetty about his point of view on Police brutality, Shetty said, "Whoever asks me about my viewpoint on Police brutality, I only ask them to shut down Police headquarters for one day. Mumbai, November 14 - For the first time since "Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior" in January 2020, a Bollywood film, "Sooryavanshi", has crossed ₹ 200 crores at the worldwide box office. The biggest Bollywood film after Ajay Devgn-fronted has given a new lease of life to the Hindi film industry that was hit really hard by the covid-19 pandemic. ## "Sooryavanshi", which stars Akshay Kumar in the title role alongside Katrina Kaif as the female lead, reached the box office milestone after just 9 days of release. The film currently stands at ₹ 206.65 crores gross at the worldwide box office, including ₹ 162.65 crores at the India box office. ## Rohit Shetty-directed witnessed a significant growth of 51.54% on the second Saturday as compared to the second Friday for a double-digit figure of ₹ 10.35 crores net. This takes the total India net collection for the film to ₹ 137.84 crores and makes it the sixth highest-grossing film for Akshay Kumar. It also becomes Akshay's 9th highest-grossing film at the worldwide box office. ## "Sooryavanshi" is the continuation and is the 4th film in Shetty's cop universe. It also stars Ajay Devgn and Ranveer Singh as Singham and Simmba in the extended cameos. On the second Saturday, it got a major contribution from Mumbai, which is running with 50% occupancy in theaters, with ₹ 1.52 crores, followed by NCR with ₹ 1.15 crores. ## The joint production of Reliance Entertainment, Rohit Shetty Picturez, Dharma Productions, and Cape of Good Films, will be aiming to cross ₹ 150 crores net at the domestic box office on the second Sunday (November 14). After finishing the opening week on high with ₹ 120 crores, Rohit Shetty-directed netted another ₹ 6.83 crores on the second Friday (November 12), helping it reach India's net total of ₹ 127.49 crores in the first 8 days (Fri-Fri).## The second Friday total of "Sooryavanshi" ensured that it entered the top 10 highest-grossing films for Akshay Kumar. The cop-drama jointly stands at number 9 with Rustom, which had netted ₹ 127.49 crores in its lifetime domestic box office run. Mumbai, November 13 - The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has expressed its gratitude towards filmmaker Rohit Shetty for helping the cine workers during the covid-19 crisis and also celebrated the blockbuster success of Shetty's "Sooryavanshi" at a special function in Mumbai on Friday (November 12). ## BN Tiwari, president of FWICE said, "Rohit was the first one to come out and donate money for the technicians and workers of the film industry. It was only after that, the others came forward to help the workers, whose bank account balance became decent enough to allow them to survive these tough times".## Rohit Shetty said that he was one of the cine workers and added, "We have worked together and will continue to work together in the future". Rohit was on a first-name basis with all junior artists, dancers, and technicians, who were present at the celebration and felicitation function.## Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit who moderated the felicitation function praised Shetty for waiting so long to release his "Sooryavanshi" in theaters, which was supposed to release in March 2020, before the covid-19 trapped the entire nation. "Rohit's Sooryavanshi has chased Corona away. It is obvious from the crowds of audiences that have come out and watched his film, after nearly two years", said Pandit.## "It is Rohit's conviction, patience, and talent that has paid off and 'Sooryavanshi' has crossed the Rs 150 crore mark.
