New Stipulation Added To Roman Reigns Vs. Riddle On WWE SmackDown

A new stipulation has been added to Friday’s WWE Universal Championship match between Roman Reigns and Riddle. ## Tonight’s episode of Raw opened with Paul Heyman who was a special guest on Miz TV. During the segment, Riddle interrupted before he could continue. ## Heyman laid out the stipulation: if Riddle doesn’t beat Reigns on Friday, he won’t receive another title shot as long as Reigns is the champion. ## Riddle won the championship match last week on SmackDown by defeating Sami Zayn. The stipulation for that match was that if Riddle won, he would receive a championship match against Reigns, but if he lost, he would be barred from SmackDown. ## Reigns has not defended the WWE Universal Championship on television since defeating Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 38 to unify the WWE and Universal Titles. Top WWE Raw Stars are Heading To This Friday's SmackDown Taping! ## Per PWInsider, AJ Styles and Finn Balor are scheduled for this Friday's Smackdown taping in Minneapolis. There is no word yet whether they are slated for a dark match or will be integrated into the FOX broadcast. ## At Hell in a Cell on June 5, Styles, Balor & Liv Morgan were defeated by Edge, Damian Priest and Rhea Ripley of Judgment Day. ## As noted, last week on WWE Raw, The Judgment Day welcomed new member Finn Bálor, The Judgement Day turned on Edge with a vicious assault. The developmental brand is holding shows around the state of Florida to help acclimate wrestlers on the road and work out in front of crowds outside Orlando. ## During a recent show in Largo, Tony D’Angelo suffered what appeared to be a shoulder injury during a match with Cameron Grimes. ## However, The nature of the injury is under the lid for the time being. On the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer briefly discussed Tony D’Angelo’s status. ## “Real quick, so did we talk about D’Angelo? What happened to Tony D’Angelo… I was so busy watching all these shows but I know Tony D’Angelo got hurt tonight in Largo… I don’t know how serious yet, but I’ll try to find out in the morning.” ## Tony D'Angelo has emerged as one of the top stars in WWE's new vision of NXT. With a growing number of wrestlers beneath him, Tony leads one of the strongest factions of the brand. Cody Rhodes had surgery this week to repair his torn pectoral muscle, and there is a little more about his week. ## According to Fightful Select, WWE was more lenient on allowing him to wrestle the match at WWE Hell in a Cell because the pectoral was torn completely off the bone, and further damage likely couldn't be done. ## To back up Cody Rhodes' words, he was insistent on working the match, and had he not wanted to, he wouldn't have been asked or required to. There were some people who were already excited that he was coming in from AEW but were privately applauding the guts he showed in competing in the match. ## Although WWE stated that Rhodes was undergoing surgery Wednesday, the original Fightful report of Thursday was correct and confirmed by Brandi Rhodes. Instead, he got into Birmingham on Wednesday to prepare for the surgery. Xia Li's return to WWE SmackDown hasn't really pulled off. ## Last night on SmackDown, Making her heroic return to the blue brand, Lacey Evans has a new mantra: Wake Up, Work, Win. And her first order of business was qualifying for the Women’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match. ## Evans picked up the W with a Woman’s Right, giving her a winning SmackDown return and a slot in the coveted Ladder Match. It was though the ice on cake for Lacey, but a sadistic night for Xia by every angle. ## A fan in attendance uploaded a video to YouTube showing referee Charles Robinson and the medical staffer checking on Li who was still on the mat in the ring. During the time they were in the ring, you can see Robinson reaching back on his radio to speak to WWE officials. ## They eventually broke out of the ring, but, Li needed help from Doc and Robinson as they made his way through the crowd into the backstage area. The latest update has emerged regarding Roman Reigns' next championship defense! ## On the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that Roman Reigns isn't scheduled to defend his title until SummerSlam 2022. As recently noted by SI's Justin Barrasso, Roman Reigns is no longer scheduled to work Money in the Bank. ## Following Backlash, the initial plan was for Reigns to wrestle at WWE’s three upcoming stadium shows against Riddle, Orton, and McIntyre. Those matches were never announced but plan changed once Money in the Bank was moved from Allegiant Stadium to the indoor MGM Grand Garden Arena. ## Now, Dave has followed up on the report and stated that July 30th is would possibly his first pay-per-view championship match. He may do a television match before then. ## "The plan is still [Randy] Orton for July 30th.
