Top 5 WWE Raw Moments (4/8): The Rock And Cody Rhodes Face-To-Face, John Cena Returns, Jey Uso Earns Title Shot

The night after WrestleMania XL delivered a jam-packed show, filled with championship celebrations, surprise returns, brutal brawls, and a shocking main event twist. While it might not have reached the epic heights of WrestleMania itself, Raw provided a solid foundation for the upcoming storylines and left fans with plenty to discuss. ## Here are the top 5 moments from the night: ## 1. A New Era Dawns with Cody Rhodes (and The Rock Appears): ## The show kicked off with a heartwarming celebration for the new Undisputed WWE Champion, Cody Rhodes. Triple H introduced Rhodes, who received an ovation from the Philadelphia crowd. A touching video package chronicled Rhodes' journey to the top, culminating in his emotional victory over Roman Reigns.## However, the celebration took a surprising turn with the arrival of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. The crowd's initial excitement quickly turned to boos as The Rock acknowledged Rhodes' victory but then challenged him for the title, hinting at a future showdown between the two legends. While the segment went on for nearly 45 minutes, it effectively planted the seeds for a potential blockbuster match and added intrigue to Rhodes' reign. ## 2. John Cena Makes a Surprise Return: ## One of the biggest pops of the night came when John Cena's music hit during a six-man tag team match. R-Truth, in a hilarious moment, claimed Cena as his invisible partner to even the odds against Judgment Day. The surprise return of the legendary Cena added a layer of excitement to the match and his signature moves alongside Truth and Miz resulted in a feel-good victory for the makeshift trio. This unexpected appearance not only added star power to the show but also left fans wondering if a more permanent return for Cena might be in the cards. ## 3. NXT Makes its Presence Felt: ## The night showcased the future of WWE with call-ups from NXT. Ilja Dragunov, the new NXT Champion, opened the show with an impressive victory over Shinsuke Nakamura. This dominant performance served as a strong introduction to the hard-hitting European wrestler. Additionally, Roxanne Perez, the newly crowned NXT Women's Champion, defeated Indi Hartwell. These victories not only established the dominance of NXT champions but also hinted at a potential future crossover and integration with the main roster. ## 4. Sami Zayn's Intercontinental Title Win and its Aftermath: ## Sami Zayn's emotional victory over Gunther to win the Intercontinental Championship was a feel-good moment for the underdog. His heartfelt speech acknowledging his supporters and even thanking Kevin Owens resonated with the audience. However, the celebration was short-lived as Imperium's Giovanni Vinci and Ludwig Kaiser confronted Zayn. The tension escalated with the arrival of Chad Gable, setting the stage for a potential tag team partnership between Zayn and Gable. Later, Zayn announced a title defense against Gable next week on Raw in Montreal, adding another layer of intrigue to the burgeoning Intercontinental Championship storyline.## 5. CM Punk's Shocking Interference in the No. 1 Contender's Match: ## The main event of the night, a Fatal Four-Way match to determine the number one contender for the World Heavyweight Championship, delivered a chaotic and entertaining encounter. Drew McIntyre, Ricochet, Bronson Reed, and Jey Uso battled it out, showcasing their athleticism and signature moves. The closing moments saw Jey Uso emerge victorious, setting him up for a title shot against Damian Priest. However, the biggest story came after the match.## As McIntyre appeared poised to challenge Punk for his actions at WrestleMania, Punk shockingly emerged from under the ring and tripped McIntyre, allowing Jey Uso to secure the win. This devious act by Punk left fans with a major cliffhanger and hinted at a potentially brutal rivalry between him and McIntyre in the coming weeks. ## Stay Tuned To Sacnilk...

The music hits and here comes Cody Rhodes, he makes his way to the ring. ## Chicago Raw opened with Cody Rhodes addressing the crowd. He referenced Roman Reigns' comments on the Pat McAfee show, where Reigns called him a politician who makes empty promises.## Rhodes defended his record, claiming he keeps his promises to the fans, using lighthearted examples of attending a fan's wedding and birthday party. He then shifted to a more serious tone, acknowledging his respect for Reigns' abilities but expressing his hatred for the champion.## Rhodes accused Reigns of manipulating the situation to avoid a one-on-one match at WrestleMania. He emphasized his two Royal Rumble victories and appealed to the Chicago crowd for their support in his upcoming tag team match.## Suddenly, The Rock's music interrupted, sending the crowd into a frenzy. The two legends stared each other down, with chants of "CM Punk" echoing through the arena, a Chicago tradition.## The Rock approached Cody and whispered something in his ear, leaving the audience and Cody visibly confused. The Rock's interaction with Cody remained enigmatic as he exited the ring without further explanation.## The show continued with backstage segments featuring Ricochet, The Judgment Day, and a brief interview with The Rock by Jackie Redmond, where he refused to reveal what he said to Cody. ## JD McDonagh (with Dominik Mysterio) vs Ricochet ## The match began with a clean break, but Ricochet's momentary distraction towards Dom allowed JD to strike from behind. Ricochet sealed the win with a picture-perfect shooting star crossbody. ## WINNER: Ricochet ## CM Punk ignited a verbal firestorm on Raw in Chicago, addressing his status and sparking confrontations with Drew McIntyre and Seth Rollins.## Standing in the ring, Punk acknowledged the fans' curiosity about his potential role at WrestleMania. He mentioned various possibilities, including hosting, commentary, or refereeing. He also addressed comments by Roman Reigns, hinting at a future encounter.## This sparked a war of words with Drew McIntyre. Punk poked fun at McIntyre's attire and questioned his legitimacy as the "Chosen One." Drew countered by referencing Punk's past injuries and suggesting Punk craved a front-row seat to witness his WrestleMania glory.## The tension escalated with the arrival of Seth Rollins. Rollins mocked Punk and McIntyre for bickering while not being in the title picture. He suggested a poll to gauge the audience's opinion on Punk's commentary role but ultimately dismissed Punk as a non-factor.## In a surprising turn, Punk agreed to become a commentator at WrestleMania. He stated his intention to add excitement to the show, something he believes McIntyre and Rollins are incapable of on their own.## The exchange culminated in Rollins delivering a Black Out on McIntyre, further intensifying the animosity between the three wrestlers. ## Ivy Nile (with Maxxine Dupri) vs Candice LeRae (with Indi Hartwell) ## The match saw LeRae utilize aggression throughout. She landed a takedown and a kick in the corner early on, followed by a near fall after a delayed vertical suplex. However, LeRae's tactics became questionable as she repeatedly sent Nile out of the ring and argued with the referee. Indi Hartwell, LeRae's tag team partner, appeared hesitant to engage with Nile while she was down. LeRae even shoved Maxxine Dupri, ruining an attempted distraction from the ring apron. In the closing moments, LeRae capitalized on a distraction to roll Nile up for the pin. WINNER: Candice LeRae ## LeRae celebrated her victory while Nile expressed confusion over the dubious tactics employed during the match. This incident could further strain the already tense relationship between LeRae and her tag team partner, Indi Hartwell.## Meanwhile, a lighthearted exchange erupted between The New Day and the reunited team of Johnny Gargano and Ciampa. The wrestlers playfully jabbed at each other's team names, hinting at a potentially interesting dynamic in the upcoming tag team match at WrestleMania.## Adding to the excitement, R-Truth and The Miz interjected, expressing their belief that the match would be the best ever. The segment also referenced the upcoming New Day vs. D-Generation X match at WrestleMania, with Truth revealing he and The Miz will join JBL on commentary for the bout. ## Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano vs Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods ## The match began with a technical display. Ciampa applied a side headlock on Kofi, who countered with a waist lock. The action went back and forth, with both teams showcasing impressive agility and teamwork. Kofi nearly secured a fall with a Fameasser, but Gargano managed to break the pin attempt.## After the commercial break, the intensity escalated as Ciampa unleashed a flurry of clotheslines on both Kofi and Woods. Johnny Gargano joined the offensive, showcasing impressive maneuvers like a Northern Lariat and an enzugiri on Woods.## The momentum appeared to be shifting towards Gargano & Ciampa as Johnny attempted a high-risk Asai DDT. However, the trajectory of the match took a sharp turn when The Judgment Day (members not mentioned in the provided excerpt) launched a surprise attack on all four wrestlers in the ring.## The referee, recognizing the escalating chaos, called for the disqualification. ## WINNER: No Contest ## Following a hard-fought Raw Tag Team Championship match, The Judgment Day set their sights on the defeated Ciampa and Gargano. Ciampa attempted to fight back, but the numbers game proved too much. The brutality continued as Dominik delivered a frog splash to Woods on the outside. Miz tried to intervene, but Priest quickly dispatched him with a choke slam. Truth, ever the opportunist, called for a commercial break from the commentary table, but his pleas were ignored.## The Judgment Day's assault continued as Priest dragged Truth into the ring. Truth valiantly fought back, even landing a punch on Finn Balor. However, Priest quickly regained control with a Razor's Edge. Balor then climbed to the top rope and delivered a Coup de Grace to a defenseless Truth.## Backstage, Jackie Redmond interviewed Cody Rhodes, seeking his reaction to his conversation with The Rock. While apologizing to everyone, Cody remained tight-lipped about the content of their exchange. He simply stated that it was a "promise" The Rock "cannot keep."## After a commercial break, Cathy Kelley interviewed Gunther regarding Sami Zayn's comments from last week. Gunther dismissed Zayn's challenge, claiming his opponent stormed off "like a child" after failing to secure a direct response. He downplayed Zayn's chances at Wrestlemania, suggesting both the audience and himself have doubts about Zayn's ability to prevail. She compliments Rhea's fresh appearance, highlighting it wasn't after a grueling match - something Rhea avoids. Rhea justifies not wrestling, claiming attention comes easily on social media. She believes champions don't need to prove themselves weekly.## Becky criticizes Rhea's self-centeredness. They disagree on what defines a champion. Rhea sees it as social media presence, while Becky prioritizes hard work in the ring. Becky warns Rhea that new stars will emerge, and true greatness lies in resilience and skill, not just initial hype. You're gonna leave your couch in Chicago to justify a seat it got your attention."## Seth Rollins: "Yeah, you got my attention. All right, you know, because this isn't a joke to me. When I said I was an addict when I said I was a spotlight junkie. It wasn't a joke to me. You see, I've been doing this for 20 years. 20 years, just like you and every single time I come out of that curtain. That's my fixed fan. And it gets better and better and better every single time. When I come out here, I lay it on the line in this way. It gets better and better every single time when I hear these people sing my song so loud I can barely speak. ## That's the spotlight I crave. And you know what? I want the spotlight as bright as it can possibly be. So look, I know you're getting busy online, trying to entertain the people on Twitter making memes. You're really gonna listen to what I'm telling you. Shall we get this through your thick skull? They didn't want to WrestleMania I take the biggest star in Hollywood and his side chick and I'm making my pitches and that night to the biggest spotlight possible will be shining down on you and me in the World Heavyweight Championship."## Drew says all hail our savior, thank you very much. He had me that's what I want. I want that passion. I don't want to the stupid outfits. I don't want to laugh and I don't want to dance and I want the passion. You had me all the way to the finish. You've done this for 20 years just to go I've done this for 20 years we've gave our life to this industry. And that's your beat this title. All about the wrestlers title, the real wrestlers title, the workhorse championship until you mentioned the bid spotlight. And the reason we're gonna get it is because you could have been one of the biggest stars in the world. Why can't it just be because of all your hard work to make that title and all of my hard work to get to this point? Why can't that be the reason we're getting the biggest spotlight the priorities are all wrong man. You got it backwards. I'm gonna give you the answers. Honestly, I don't care all the BS and now all I care about is you make it to the ring at night to a WrestleMania and if you can't walk will you doubt the count will you don't I will carry you down because at WrestleMania I'm not gonna get the moment I am gonna get the moment I have bloody earned it. ## Seth Rollins: "That's right. You want to call me a spotlight junkie. But you want the spotlight just as bad as I do, don't you? You're an addict just like I am. And you've been begging for spotlight for the past four years because you won the WrestleMania main event you did back in 2020 in an empty warehouse. And all we've been hearing from Drew McIntyre for the past four years was how that wasn't good enough. You've been whining and complaining and bitching and moaning that you deserve better than you deserve more. The problem is true. When everybody came back around, and the lights got bright again. What happened? You fumble the ball. And that's the difference between you and me. When the lights are the brightest. I shine then I shine bright. ## At WrestleMania 40, lights are going to be as bright as they have ever been. You are going to find out you're not as good as you." ## The camera shifts to backstage where we see Becky Lynch cutting a promo. ## Becky Lynch: "We're less than three weeks away from Wrestlemania.
