Thunivu is a film that showcases Vinoth's forte in creating socially relevant films. He is not just another filmmaker who tells a fictional or non-fictional story. He creates films that resonate with the audience, giving them a microscopic view of the things they pass on and sending them out with a new perspective. In Thunivu, Vinoth takes on the banking and financial sector and highlights every flaw without any hidden layers or indirect attacks. AK, the showrunner, delivers one of his best performances in the past decade, presenting everything written by Vinoth perfectly. Manju Warrier is equally magnificent, owning and holding every scene she appears in. The entire cast is a plus, and their contributions add top-notch quality to the film. Special and huge respect is due to Nirav Sah and Supreme Sundar Master for their enormous contributions in the technical aspects of the film. Gibhran's score lifts the whole film, and the placement of songs is never forced.
However, the film is not without its drawbacks. The action scenes lack logic and look super cringe-worthy. The film also looks like a documentary, and the same old template is used, where the hero does something on TV, and everyone reacts to it. It is disappointing that despite having many Hollywood action movies as a reference, Indian films still use cheap CGIs and do not improve. The climax of the film is one of the worst in recent movies, and it will give tough competition to the fighter jet scene in the Beast movie. It is a wasted potential for Vinoth and Ajith, who could have done so much more with their talent.
In conclusion, Thunivu is a perfect Vinoth film that delivers on its social relevance. However, it falls short on the action scenes and the overall cinematic experience. It is a good effort by Vinoth and AK, but it could have been much better. The film does manage to send a message and highlights the flaws in the banking and financial sector. It is a film that everyone should watch for its social relevance, but if you are looking for an action-packed thriller, this may not be the best choice.
