James is a stylized action entertainer with stylish action, set-pieces, lavishing songs and mass scenes.
Punneth Rajkumar gave a brilliant performances an army major and excels in emotions, action and dance. Rangayana Raghu and Priya Anand (in the climax) play a major part of the film. SarathKumar, Srikanth and Adithyan's performances are good but their character lacks strong villian characterizations which is an important point in action films.
Chethan Kumar has tried something new after his rural drama films based in Uttar Karnataka and gave a stylish Hollywood style-Blockbusters. The director only focused on action and mass scenes but his writing style is typical-mass masala-style, but the making-style is Hollywood and the plot is similar to Gopichand's 2017 Telugu film Oxygen. The action scenes choreographed by Dr. Ravi Verma, Ram Lakshman, Chetan D’Souza, Arjun Master, Vijay Master and performed by Puneeth Rajkumar are stylized, gory at times, over-the-top and jaw dropping. Cinematography, editing, art, music and background score by Swamy J Gowda, Deepu S Kumar, Ravi Santehaiklu, Charan Raj and V. Harikrishna are executed-stylishly and are entertaining which are the main plus points.
Overall, James is a fitting tribute to Punneth Rajkumar with intense-overboard action scenes, performances and bgm are the main highlights, but if you ignore the lack of strong villians and predictability.
It is worth a watch, Go Watch it on Sony Liv for an stylishly action-packed entertainer and last performance of Punneth Rajkumar.
