Disney's 'The Little Mermaid' Eyes $100 Million Plus North America Opening
Los Angeles, May 24 - Disney is gearing up for a potential summer blockbuster in the form of the musical fantasy film The Little Mermaid which is releasing this Friday (May 26) in the US theaters. ## Directed by Rob Marshall, "The Little Mermaid" will be released in over 4300 theaters in the domestic (North America) market, making it one of the widest releases of 2023. ## According to Box Office Pro, the big-budget remake is eyeing to earn a mighty $115 million - $120 million in its first three days (including Thursday previews) of release and $135 million - $140 million by Monday holiday, Memorial Day weekend. ## If the movie opens in the projected lines, it will be the 4th film of 2023 to breach the $100 million mark in its domestic opening weekend, after "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" ($146 million), "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" ($118 million) and "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania" ($106 million).## "The Little Mermaid" is expected to be Disney's one of the most successful live-action adaptations. It is a live-action adaptation of Walt Disney Animation Studios' 1989 film of the same name, itself loosely based on the 1837 fairy tale of the same title by Hans Christian Andersen. ## The film stars Halle Bailey in the titular role, alongside Jonah Hauer-King, Daveed Diggs, Awkwafina, Jacob Tremblay, Noma Dumezweni, Javier Bardem, and Melissa McCarthy. It follows a mermaid princess Ariel who makes a deal with a treacherous sea witch Ursula to trade her voice to human legs in order to impress Prince Eric, who is saved from a shipwreck before the time runs out. ## Stay tuned...
