Theatrical Business Details Of Pongal/Sankranthi Releases

Chennai, January 10 - Four of the biggest stars of the Southern Indian film industry, Thalapathy Vijay, Ajith Kumar, Chiranjeevi, and Nandamuri Balakrishna, will be competing at the box office to attract audience eyeballs during one of the most lucrative Pongal/Sankranthi festival frames. ## Thalapathy Vijay's Varisu, scheduled for January 11 release, is easily the biggest film this Pongal festival as far as the movie business is concerned. It will be up against Ajith Kumar's Thunivu at the Tamil box office and both the movies are having neck-to-neck numbers in the advance booking with "Varisu" marginally ahead at the moment. ## Directed by Vamshi Paidipally and produced by Dil Raju, "Varisu" will need to perform strong legs at the box office as the break-even target for this family action drama film is on the higher side as compared to the other movies. The break-even target for the movie is approx. 155 crores share, which means, it will need to gross around 280 crores at the global box office. ## The break-even target for "Varisu" seems too little higher given the fact that it will have to share screens with "Thunivu" which is also due on January 11 release. It will, however, fancy chances, thanks to Thalapathy Vijay who has a mighty impressive pull at the box office.## On the other hand, "Thunivu's" break-even target is close to 88 crores share or approx. 165 crores gross worldwide. Given how previous movies of Ajith Kumar have fared at the box office, "Thunivu" is in a comfortable position and is expected to be a profitable venture for the makers unless it meets a poor response from audiences. ## Coming to the Telugu films, the producer for both movies, Chiranjeevi and Ravi Teja's Waltair Veerayya and Balakrishna's Veera Simha Reddy is Mythri Movie Makers. The studio has done well to manage things and negotiate with theaters to find ways to give a proper release to both films. ## "Waltair Veerayya", directed by Bobby, has been valued at approx. 89 crores, similar to Chiranjeevi's last film "Godfather" which was an average affair at the box office. The trailer of the film met with a very good response from the audiences and the movie is expected to have a good run, at least, in the first few days. It is slated for January 13 release. ## Cult star Nandamuri Balakrishna leads Gopichand Malineni's action drama "Veera Simha Reddy", alongside Shruti Haasan and Duniya Vijay, which is due a Jan. 12 release. NBK is coming after delivering the biggest blockbuster of his career in the form of "Akhanda" and he will be looking to repeat the same with the upcoming movie. It is valued at approx. 74 crores, the biggest release for the actor in terms of business. ## Overall, over 400 crores are riding on the four Pongal/Sankranthi films and it will be interesting to see how these films fare in the crowded release. ## Stay tuned...

During the chat, the actor was asked to share some updates on his much-awaited superhero film Krrish 4 which was announced many moons back but is yet to go on floors. ## The superstar confirmed that the movie is in the works but couldn't go on floors due to a little technicality. He, however, assured that fans might get an update towards the end of this year. ## "I think, we should all get together and send out a little prayer. Everything is set (about Krrish 4) but we are stuck on one little technicality. Hopefully, we will overcome that by year end. Mumbai, January 10 - After a long wait, the highly-anticipated trailer of Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan's comeback movie Pathaan finally got released today and as expected, it hits the bullseye in the most epic way. ## The trailer of Pathaan, directed by Siddharth Anand, is full of high-octane action sequences, along with mass and patriotic dialogue-baazi which is going to shake theaters upon its release on the big screen. The epic trailer begins with a voiceover by Dimple Kapadia explaining a private terror group's deadly mission against India, spearheaded by John Abraham. ## To counter this deadly terror attack and fight the terrorists, Dimple Kapadia says its time for Pathaan, played by SRK, to end his 'vanvaas' (exile) to save Bharat Mata. Shah Rukh as Pathaan voicing some heavy-duty dialogues likes, "Party Pathaan ke ghar rakhoge toh mehmaannawazi ke liye Pathaan toh aayega, aur pathaake bhi layega". ## Deepika Padukone introduces herself as a soldier and joins forces with Pathaan to stop John from executing his plans to destroy Bharat Maa. The trailer ends with the best dialogue, "a soldier does not ask what his country can do for him, he asks what he can do for his country. Jai Hind!".## Salman Khan also plays a cameo role as Tiger but Yash Raj Films wants to keep his role under wraps and does not feature in the trailer. Mumbai, January 9 - James Cameron's Avatar: The Way of Water has become the highest-grossing Hollywood movie at the Indian box office, beating Marvel blockbuster Avengers: Endgame. ## The science-fiction epic has completed 25 days in India and scored approx. 375 crores net. "Avengers: Endgame" had netted approx. 373 crores and is now behind "Avatar 2" in India. As far as the gross collection is concerned, Cameron's directorial has grossed approx. 458 crores while Endgame had scored approx. 445 crores in 2019. ## The sequel to Cameron's highest-grossing film of all time is racing towards 400 crores net in India for all languages. The movie had the second biggest opening week for a Hollywood movie with approx. 194 crores net, followed by 100 crores in the second week. Despite the competition, the movie had another strong 3rd week of approx. 60 crores net and in the 4th week, it has already scored around 20 crores in 4 days for all languages.## At the worldwide box office, "Avatar 2" has become the 7th highest-grossing film ever with a gross collection of $1.71 billion. Mumbai, January 9 - Actor-filmmaker Riteish Deshmukh's directorial debut, Marathi film Ved is having a historical run at the box office. The romantic-drama film is a remake of the 2019 Telugu-language film, "Majili", which starred Naga Chaitanya and Samantha Ruth Prabhu in the lead roles. ## "Ved" was released on December 30, 2022, and took one of the biggest openings ever for a Marathi film with 2.25 crores net.
