India To Host 2021 Men's T20 World Cup; Women's ODI World Cup Postponed To 2022

India have retained the hosting rights for the men's T20 World Cup in 2021 while Australia will host T20 World Cup in 2022. Both the nations were not able to host the respective tournaments which were originally scheduled to take place in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. ## Meanwhile, Women's ODI World Cup which was slated to be played in New Zealand in February-March 2021, has now been postponed to February-March 2022, the ICC announced on Friday (August 7) after a meeting of the International Business Corporation (the commercial subsidiary of the ICC). ## "We now have absolute clarity on the future of ICC events enabling all of our Members to focus on the rescheduling of lost international and domestic cricket. We will now proceed as planned with the Men's T20 World Cup 2021 in India and host the 2022 edition in Australia," ICC Chief Executive Manu Sawhney said.## Earlier, ICC had announced the postponement of the 2020 edition of the Men's T20 World Cup on July 20 and had also marked a window for the three men's events in 2021, 2022, and 2023. Read More... ## Important to know that the format for the Men's T20 World Cup in 2021 will remain as it was in 2020, with all teams that qualified for the 2020 event to be part of the event in India in 2021. However, a new qualification process will be in place for the Men's T20 World Cup in 2022.## For the Women's 50-over World Cup, five teams had already qualified for the tournament originally scheduled in 2021. The final three teams were to be decided through a qualification competition that was scheduled to be played in Sri Lanka in July 2020 but was postponed because of the pandemic. That qualification event will now be held in 2021 with the ICC yet to decide on the dates.## "We have taken the decision to move the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup to give players from every competing nation, the best opportunity to be ready for the world's biggest stage and there is still a global qualifier to complete to decide the final three teams," Sawhney said.## "There has been no women's international cricket played since the conclusion of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup earlier this year and due to the varying impact of COVID-19 globally, that is likely to remain the situation for a number of the teams. Moving the event by 12 months gives all competing teams the chance to play a sufficient level of cricket ahead of both the qualification event and leading into a Cricket World Cup so the integrity of the tournament is maintained," he added.## Stay tuned...

Virat Listen To Advice But He Will Always Play His Natural Game: Cheteshwar Pujara

Team India skipper Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara have been two of the strongest pillars of the Indian test side for quite some time now. These two, however, are completely different from each other in terms of the batting approach but are the most important players for the team. ## Virat and Pujara like to play with each other. Despite the fact that Virat likes to dominate the opposition while Pujara grinds them out, both make one of the most successful pairs in test cricket. The duo has accumulated 2894 runs together with 7 hundred and 14 fifty-plus partnerships and an average of 47.44 in 62 innings together. ## Cheteshwar Pujara who bats at number 3 says that he likes to bat with Virat Kohli because he is a very positive player and likes to play his shots which takes the pressure off him. Speaking to Harsha Bhogle in Cricbuzz in Conversation episode, Pujara said - ## "I enjoy batting with Kohli because he's a positive player. Once he's at the crease, I know that bowlers will try and take his wicket because they feel that they can get him out early".## "But his approach is different, he'll be positive. If he gets a half-volley on the first ball, he'll try and hit it for a four. So the scoreboard is moving, there's not much pressure on my side because the opposition is thinking that they'll have to pick Virat's wicket and he's playing positive", he added. ## "Their focus is shifting to Virat and I can be relaxed at the other end. There have been times where because their [opposition's] focus is on Virat, I get some extra loose balls."## When asking about what they discussed at the crease while batting, to which Pujara said, "As soon as he comes he will ask what are they (the opposition) trying to do, how the ball is swinging. If it's a left-arm seamer, what are the angles he is using, whether he's trying to bowl an inswinger or an away swinger? There's a lot of communication."## Pujara also revealed that they like to help each other when any of them makes a mistake the other one will go to him and tell what should be done apart from building up the partnership. He also said that even though Virat will listen to the advice he will still play his natural game. ## "There are times where he would've played a cover drive when the ball is on the fifth or sixth stump, and I'll go and communicate to him that this is too wide. He plays his natural game, no doubt about that but he's ready to listen to that advice. Because if the ball is too wide for a cover drive, he also understands that it is not in his zone so he doesn't need to play that".## "But he will play a cover drive on the ball which is on the off-stump or fourth stump, but if it is on the fifth stump, he will listen. He will tell me 'yeah I didn't play that well", Pujara added.## As the coronavirus pandemic has put a break on the cricket, Pujara will have to wait till December when team India will tour Australia. However, Virat Kohli will be in action rather soon in the 13th edition of the IPL which is scheduled to be played in the UAE from September 19 to November 10. ## Stay tuned...

Women's IPL is very much on - Sourav Ganguly

The BCCI president Sourav Ganguly confirmed on Sunday (August 2) that an expended women's T20 challenge is in the process and will be played during the men's IPL 2020 playoffs week from 1-10 November in the UAE. However, just like the men's IPL, the tournament will need the government of India clearances. ## Speaking to Press Trust of India (PTI), Sourav Ganguly said, "I can confirm to you that the women's IPL is very much on and we do have a plan in place for the national team also".## BCCI is also planning a series in South Africa and in West Indies as build-up assignments before the women's World Cup 2021 in New Zealand after the Women's T20 Challange. ## The T20 challenge, should it go ahead in the aforementioned window, significantly minimizes the chances of Indian representation in this year's Women's Big Bash League which is slated to begin from October 17 to November 29. ## It is very likely that the top Australian cricketers may not participate in the women's T20 challenge for the second year in a row. Last year as well, cricket Australia did not allow its women's contracted players to participate owing to a men's bilateral series dispute with the BCCI.## Last year, Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhan, and Mithali Raj led three teams in the second edition of the tournament which was played in Jaipur, Rajasthan during the playoffs week of men's IPL 2019. ## Stay tuned...

Anil Kumble Reveals Why India Didn't Withdraw From Australia Tour After 'Monkeygate' Incident

Former India captain Anil Kumble reveals that team India wanted to withdraw from the 2007-08 Australia tour after Harbhajan Singh was suspended for 3 matches following the 'Monkeygate' incident. However, the team later changed their mind and decided that the best approach would be to try and draw the four-Test series by winning the third and fourth matches. ## During the second test match in Sydney, off-spinner Harbhajan Singh, and Australian all-rounder Andrew Symonds were involved in verbal wrangling during which the off-spinner allegedly leveled a racist remark against Symonds. The incident led to Harbhajan's suspension for 3-matches before it was overturned on an appeal later. ## Anil Kumble who was the captain of Indian test team then said during a conversation with Ravichandran Ashwin on his YouTube channel that, "You know as a captain you're generally tuned to take decisions on the field".## "Here I was faced with something, which was off the field, to take a decision in the larger interest of the game. And one of our players [Harbhajan Singh] was obviously banned for three matches because of a racist remark – that was what the pronouncement was and we appealed".## "I felt he was wronged. We had to obviously be together as a team but the challenge was that there was a lot of talk about the team wanting to come back at that point in time. Yes, you know, probably [people] would have accepted that the Indian team was wronged and that’s why they came back".## He further said that even they wanted to withdraw but decided to stay as they thought this would be the best message that they can give back to their fans. ## "I think as a captain, or as a team, we had gone there to win the series. Unfortunately, with the first two results not going our way, the best result could have been a drawn series because two more Test matches remained, and I just wanted to rally around the team. I was fortunate enough to have senior players, former captains, in the team".## "We got around as a unit and then we sort of took a decision to continue, and make sure that we go on and win the next couple of matches because that would be the best message that we can give back to our fans. Because whenever an Indian team travels abroad, the fans expect the team to do really well and win the series. I certainly believe that we had the ability to do that", he concluded.## Stay tuned...

"2014 England Tour Was A Milestone In My Career", Kohli Reveals How 2014 Tour Changed Him As A Player

Team India captain Virat Kohli revealed that the England tour of 2014 which is by far Kohli's worst by statistically in which he could score only 134 runs in 10 innings proved to be a milestone in his career which helped him to change his approach and mindset. And when 4 years later, Kohli returned for his toughest challenge, he looked a completely different player altogether. ## Ever since the 2014 England tour, Virat Kohli's stats as a batman skyrocketed. He has played 57 Test matches (94 innings) and piled on 5,385 including 593 runs in 5 Tests on 2018 England tour since the fifth and last Test match against England at The Oval in 2014 which speaks a lot about his determination.## "2014 will be a milestone in my career", Kohli told Mayank Agarwal in a Web Chat Show on BCCI.tv. "Lot of people take good tours as a milestone. That tour of 2014 will always be the milestone in my career. From where I thought things might go bad for me very soon because the next big tour was Australia. I had to sit down and change the way I thought and approached the game".## "I started being more fearless, not in situations which sort of seemed easy, like in white-ball cricket, you invariably knew what the situation was. You prepared yourself, you get motivated very easily. But Test cricket, when it gets tough, to maintain your composure is the most difficult thing for a cricketer. That is something I really needed to correct".## From 2014 to 2018 – How Virat Kohli turned it around 💪@imVkohli chats with @mayankcricket on how he put behind his failures in England with technical inputs from @sachin_rt and @RaviShastriOfc and came out all guns blazing in 2018 🙌👌Full video 📽️👉 https://t.co/yNMw87SR4z pic.twitter.com/m6zCPftcTC— BCCI (@BCCI) July 24, 2020 ## Virat Kohli, however, credits Team India coach Ravi Shastri for his success as a batsman on the 2018 England tour and the tours happened after 2014. He revealed that soon after the 2014 England tour, Shastri (who was Team India director then) called him and Shikhar Dhawan to his room and suggested them to make some changes in their techniques. Kohli who went to England as captain of the team this time obviously followed what Shastri's advised, and what happened next is well known. ## "Well, it was after the England tour in 2014. He (Shastri) called me and Shikhar to his room. He called for a bat as well. He has such a keen understanding of the game. Because from a lower-order player to opening the batting for India and averaging 40-plus and scoring hundreds almost everywhere in the world, you have to have a good understanding of the game".## Kohli also revealed that How Shastri's suggestions of standing outside the crease helped him to deal with the pacers.## "Ravi Bhai asked me if I was afraid of the short ball. I said no. Then he said 'good, then stand outside the crease'. I said I am willing to get hit but not get out. Before the tour game in 2018, Ravi Bhai saw me practicing and asked me again why I was not standing outside the crease. So, I went back into the nets and did about 40 minutes of standing outside the crease. It was absolute chalk and cheese."## "I was so much more in control. I was in control of the space that I was playing in. I would play with conviction of the front foot also play the short ball from the same base. The results were there to see", He said. ## Stay tuned...

India Cricket Team With An All-Rounder Like Ben Stokes Will Be Unbeatable, Feels Irfan Pathan

In the latest ICC rankings, England's all-rounder Ben Stokes dethrones West Indies captain Jason Holder to become the number 1 all-rounder in Test cricket. Since the world cup final last year, Stokes has been in a different form and has played some of the remarkable knocks including the title-winning 84 against New Zealand in the final of the World Cup 2019 at the Lord's.## However, his knock in the final was just a glimpse of his sheer talent. In the 3rd Test of the Ashes Series 2019, his knock of 136* helped England win the test from nowhere. In fact, he added 76 runs with Jack Leach for the last wicket in which, Leach's contribution was just one run, talks a lot about his dominance on the Aussie bowlers.## And now, as the cricket resumes after a long break because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Stokes also back to his usual best. His all-round performance against West Indies in the second Test at Emirates Old Trafford, Manchester not only helped England to squire the series but also led him to the top of ICC's latest all-rounder' ranking. ## Stokes' all-round ability seems to have impressed former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan who feels Team India is lacking a player like Stokes who could perform anywhere and in any condition. Pathan, who himself was a brilliant all-rounder for India, said in a tweet that if India team has a player like Ben Stokes it will be unbeatable anywhere in the world. ## Indian cricket will be unbeatable anywhere in the world if they have a match winning all rounder like @benstokes38 #matchwinner— Irfan Pathan (@IrfanPathan) July 21, 2020 ## Irfan Pathan played for India for almost nine years and some of the memorable performances. In 2006 against Pakistan, Pathan dismissed the players like Salman Butt, Younis Khan, and Mohammad Yousuf in three consecutive deliveries and became the first and the only bowler to-date to pick a hat-trick in the first over of a Test match which has been the highlight of his career. ## Pathan was also the part of the Indian team that won the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007 and the Champions Trophy in 2013. Irfan played 173 matches across all three formats and took 301 wickets in those matches. On 4 January 2020, the 35-year-old all-rounder announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. ## Stay tuned...

IPL 2020 Is Set To Be Played In UAE!

Indian Premier League 2020 which was scheduled to begin earlier this year in March, will now be played in the United Arab Emirates. Among the few options of holding this year's IPL, BCCI has selected UAE to host the tournament which was postponed earlier due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, BCCI will have to wait for the government's approval. ## "We have written to the government seeking permission to host the tournament in UAE. The dates have not been finalized as yet and will be decided at the (next) IPL GC, which will be held in the next seven or ten days", IPL chairman Brijesh Patel told to Cricbuzz, on Tuesday (July 21). ## After the International Cricket Council (ICC) postponed Men's T20 World Cup 2020 which was scheduled to hold in Australia in October-November yesterday on July 20, the doors were open for the IPL to take place. ## After asserting the COVID-19 situation, BCCI looked at several alternatives in a bid to host the tournament later in the year in India. Boards from several countries - Sri Lanka, New Zealand and UAE offered to host the tournament. Last month, the Emirates Cricket Board had offered to host the tournament in UAE, stating that they had the required infrastructure for it.## In all likelihood, UAE will end up hosting the tournament. However, Brijesh Patel didn't deny the possibility of hosting the tournament in India and hinted that options are open as of now. The decision, however, will be taken in the upcoming IPL Governing Council meeting.## Stay tuned...

On Monday (July 20), the International Cricket Council took an inevitable decision of postponing the upcoming Men's T20 World Cup which was scheduled to be held in Australia from 18 October 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic that brought cricket to its knees earlier this year. ## With the postponement of this year's Men's T2O World Cup, the next two ICC Men's Tournaments have been rescheduled. On Monday's meeting of the IBC Board (the commercial subsidiary of the ICC), windows for the next three ICC men's events were also agreed upon.## The windows for the next three Men's events are as follows:## ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2021 will be held in October-November 2021, with the final on November 14, 2021. ## ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2022 will be held in October-November 2022, with the final on November 13, 2022. ## ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 will be held in India in October-November 2023, with the final on November 26, 2023. ## "The IBC Board agreed to continue to monitor the rapidly changing situation and assess all the information available in order to make a considered decision on future hosts to ensure the sport is able to stage safe and successful global events in 2021 and 2022", the ICC stated in a release.## "The IBC Board will also continue to evaluate the situation in relation to being able to stage the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2021 in New Zealand in February next year. In the meantime, planning for this event continues as scheduled".## ICC Chief Executive Manu Sawhney said, "We have undertaken a comprehensive and complex contingency planning exercise and through this process, our number one priority has been to protect the health and safety of everyone involved in the sport.## "The decision to postpone the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup was taken after careful consideration of all of the options available to us and gives us the best possible opportunity of delivering two safe and successful T20 World Cups for fans around the world.## "Our members now have the clarity they need around event windows to enable them to reschedule lost bilateral and domestic cricket. Moving the Men’s Cricket World Cup to a later window is a critical element of this and gives us a better chance of maintaining the integrity of the qualification process. This additional time will be used to reschedule games that might be lost because of the pandemic ensuring qualification can be decided on the field of play.## "Throughout this process, we have worked closely with our key stakeholders including governments, Members, broadcasters, partners, and medical experts to enable us to reach a collective decision for the good of the game and our fans. I would like to thank everyone involved for their commitment to a safe return to cricket".## Stay tuned...
