Mirai Box Office Preview: Another Pan-India Blockbuster Loading For Teja Sajja?

Hyderabad, September 12 – The rising Telugu star Teja Sajja's much-awaited superhero spectacle Mirai hit the big screen on September 12 amid a wave of positivity, after the actor delivered a big Pan India blockbuster in Hanuman last year. Mirai, directed by Karthik Gattamneni and Anil Anand, has been carrying positive reports, and as expected, it has opened with positive reviews, both from critics and audiences alike. After good pre-sales worldwide with 7+ crores gross, the film is gearing up for a strong opening at the worldwide box office. Early reviews highlight the movie’s impressive visual effects and the seamless blend of action with a divine touch, something that is striking a chord with viewers. The grandeur in presentation, coupled with a rooted storytelling style, has been widely appreciated. Many believe that Mirai builds upon the massive goodwill generated by Teja Sajja's previous blockbuster HanuMan. The film was censored with U/A (16+) with the approved runtime of 2 hours and 49 minutes (169 minutes) by the CBFC. Adding to the excitement, Prabhas' voiceover in the beginning has emerged as a big plus, amplifying the cinematic experience and instantly engaging the audience. His presence, though brief, lends a starry boost to the film's pan-India appeal. With strong word-of-mouth already setting in, Mirai is well-positioned to register a solid opening day worldwide. If the momentum sustains, which is very much likely given the initial reception, Teja Sajja could be on his way to scoring another pan-India blockbuster, cementing his rising stature as one of the most promising stars in the industry today. Nandarmuri Balakrishna's Akhanda 2 Strikes Record-Breaking Post-Theatrical OTT Deal With Netflix

Hyderabad, September 11 - The much-awaited sequel to Nandamuri Balakrishna's blockbuster Akhanda has been delayed, but the anticipation for the film shows no signs of slowing down. Directed by Boyapati Srinu, Akhanda 2 is now aiming for a grand worldwide release in the first week of December, in multiple languages. In 2025, the sequels failed to justify the massive expectations, except for a few, and despite that, the trade is supremely confident in Akhanda 2. Not just theatrical ambitions, the film has managed to strike a massive post-theatrical streaming deal with Netflix, possibly without a Hindi version. According to the latest Telugu media reports, Netflix has acquired the streaming rights of the movie for 80+ crores, which is the biggest for Balakrishna. It is not reported whether the streamer has bought the rights for all languages or just for the South Indian versions. Akhanda 2 is expected to have a full-fledged release in Hindi version, meaning an 8-week theatrical window, which is beyond Netflix's agenda. Produced by 14 Reels Plus and Sarke Studio, Akhanda 2 was supposed to be released on September 25, but the makers recently announced that due to the extensive post-production, it has been postponed. There is Pawan Kalyan's highly-awaited OG on September 25, so the trade believes it was the right decision to move back the release of the sequel. The big success of Akhanda (2021) has boosted the box office prospects of Akhanda 2, which is expected to open with massive collections all around. If word of mouth also turns out to be positive, then it is sure to become the biggest blockbuster of NBK. Stay tuned...

They Call Him OG: Pawan Kalyan's Actioner Faces Setback in Hindi Market

Mumbai, September 9 - Telugu superstar Pawan Kalyan's gangster action thriller They Call Him OG is one of the most-anticipated films. It is carrying excellent buzz among the fans, especially in Telugu states, where it is expected to open with massive numbers at the box office. While the film's box office potential is unquestionable in the Telugu market, it was widely anticipated to be Pawan Kalyan's breakthrough film in the Hindi market, given the decent buzz surrounding it. The presence of Emraan Hashmi was an advantage, as trade experts had hoped the film would open new doors for the star in the North belt. However, the latest reports suggest that the Hindi release plans have taken a massive setback. According to reports, OG is set to have a limited release in the North belt, as the film will not find a place in multiplex chains. As per industry norms, for any film to secure a multiplex release in Hindi circuits, it must run in theatres for a minimum of eight weeks before heading to streaming. In the case of OG, or for most of the South Indian films, it reportedly has a pre-agreement with an OTT platform for a limited theatrical release, which means the multiplexes are not on board for the Hindi release. Reports say Pawan Kalyan won't be promoting the movie outside the Telugu states. This comes as a major blow to OG's box office prospects in North India. With multiplexes out of the equation, the film is unlikely to find much ground in single screens either. Adding to the challenge, Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi's much-awaited comedy drama Jolly LLB 3 hits theatres just a week before OG, further limiting its chances to make a dent in the Hindi market through mass centres. While They Call Him OG is expected to score big numbers in its home markets, the Hindi release setback will significantly restrict its pan-India potential, which is particularly a disappointing outcome for the fans of Emraan Hashmi, who has a fan following among the youth. Produced by DVV Entertainment, OG also stars Priyanka Arul Mohan as the female lead. Directed by Saaho fame Sujeeth, the film is scheduled to release on September 25 in multiple languages. Sleeper Hit Alert: Mouli Tanuj, Shivani Nagaram's Little Hearts Wins Big at the Box Office

Hyderabad, September 9 - The unpredictability of the box office has struck again as the Telugu film industry has found its latest sleeper hit in Mouli Tanuj and Shivani Nagaram's rom-com Little Hearts. The film, made on a tiny budget of just around 2 crores and featuring relatively unknown faces, has taken the trade by surprise with its strong box office performance. After opening to a good collection of around 2.50 crores worldwide, Little Hearts clocked an impressive 12 crores gross in its first weekend. But the real surprise came on day 4, when the film managed to outgross its opening day, signalling extraordinary audience reception and the strength of positive word of mouth. With its 4-day worldwide gross collection standing at over 15 crores, the film has already recovered multiple times its production cost and is well on its way to becoming a massive blockbuster. Such a trajectory is rare in today's times, especially for a small-budget film without star power or aggressive marketing campaigns. The chemistry between Mouli Tanuj and Shivani Nagaram, coupled with a simple yet heartwarming narrative, has struck a chord with audiences across demographics. With demand only growing, Little Hearts is poised to continue its dream run at the box office, proving once again that good content and strong word of mouth can triumph over big budgets and big names. This underscores the massive anticipation surrounding the film. With still three weeks to go before release, trade experts are confident that the film will scale much bigger numbers in the coming days, setting the stage for one of the biggest premiere days for an Indian title in North America. The minister also said in his post that the film is looking to reach over a billion people worldwide, which would be something out of the world if the makers pulled this off. Apart from the ambitious release plans, Minister Mudavadi also revealed that Gen63 is a 2-part epic saga, and now, that is something which is creating confusion. Time and again, there have been rumours about the plans to release the film in multiple parts, but the reliable Telugu media portals have confirmed that it will be a single-part film, not a franchise. The confusion persists, especially after the revelation by a foreign minister, as the makers haven't made any official statement yet regarding the same. Irrespective of how many parts of Gen63 will be there, the film is expected to take Indian cinema to new heights in terms of scale, budget, and box office performance. Touted as the globetrotter, it is said to be the biggest Asian project with a budget of over 1000 crores. The first look teaser of the movie will be released in November this year, and the plans are to release the movie in the first half of 2027 in multiple languages worldwide. Stay tuned...

Chennai, August 29 - Superstar Rajinikanth led his gangster action drama Coolie crawl past the 500 crores mark at the worldwide box office, making it only the 4th Tamil film ever to achieve the milestone. The movie had to battle its way to reach the coveted box office mark, despite the record start. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Coolie joins Rajinikanth's own blockbusters - 2 Point 0 and Jailer, along with Thalapathy Vijay's Leo - to emerge as the 4th Tamil title to make its way into the 500 crores club globally. 2 Point 0 remains the biggest grosser with around 700 crores, as Coolie set to finish at 4, behind Jailer (605 crores), and Leo (606 crores). While Coolie brings in the lures for Tamil cinema, it also expands the South Indian cinema's 500 crores club grossers list to 11. This has been dominated by the Telugu film industry with 6 titles in the list, while Kannada has one in the form of Yash-fronted KGF: Chapter 2. SS Rajamouli's groundbreaking blockbuster, Baahubali 2 (2017), remains the biggest South Indian grosser at the worldwide box office with close to 1800 crores gross. They Call Him OG North America Premiere Advance Booking: Pawan Kalyan's Comeback Storm Begins With Bang

Los Angeles, August 29 - After the dismal performance of Hari Hara Veera Mallu, the power star Pawan Kalyan is ready to bounce back with a bang. The Telugu superstar has begun showcasing his raw stardom with one of his most highly anticipated films in recent times, They Call Him OG, in advance bookings at the North American box office. Directed by Sujeeth, the gangster action thriller is still nearly 4 weeks away from hitting the big screens, but the pre-sales are already breathing fire as far as the North America premiere is concerned. The pre-sales of OG began on August 27 in NA, and in no time, it has crossed $500K already for the premiere, which is on September 24. During the first hour of pre-sales opening, OG saw record-breaking response, with four shows at Cinemark Dallas selling out in minutes. Seeing the response, 35 premiere shows have already been scheduled at one of the top-grossing Cinemark theatres in Dallas, by distributor Prathyangira Cinemas. The pre-sales exploded as more locations opened the booking, and as per Venky Box Office, it has crossed $500K from nearly 1125 shows over 300 locations and sold over 17,000 tickets. OG is the fastest Telugu title to achieve $500K pre-sales in North America. Prathyangira Cinemas has kept ticket prices as high as $25-$30, as fans fuel a potential blockbuster. Going by the initial trend, OG will be eyeing one of the biggest premiere days in North America for a Telugu film. Trade anticipates that the film might cross $2 million premiere gross, which will be the highest for a Pawan Kalyan-starrer. OG stars Pawan Kalyan in the title role of Ojas Gambheera alongside Emraan Hashmi as Omi Bhau (in his Telugu film debut), and Priyanka Mohan as the female lead. The film revolves around a ruthless don named Ojas Gambheera "OG" who returns to Mumbai following his ten-year disappearance, to reclaim his empire and exact vengeance on the current tyrant, Omi Bhau.
