Anaheim, September 11 - Oscar-winning filmmaker James Cameron announced at D23 Expo that the production of Avatar 4 has officially started while filming continues on Avatar 3. The filmmaker wasn't present at D23 in person but did send in a video for attendees to offer updates on the upcoming Avatar sequels. ## Cameron's long-awaited "Avatar: The Way of Water" closed out the Marvel, Lucasfilm, and 20th Century panel at the D23 Expo Saturday by handing out 3-D glasses to everyone in the audience and showing off six extended scenes from the movie, scheduled to release in December this year. The post-production continues on "Avatar 2". ## Coming 13 years after the release of the original film, "Avatar 2" focuses on the oceans of Pandora, as new performance capture technology has been developed specifically for Cameron to shoot scenes underwater. Many of the film's cast had to learn how to free dive and hold their breath underwater to be able to perform their necessary scenes.## The new footage of "Avatar 2" was shown at the D23 Expo and hailed as a pure visual treat, including the best showcase for the underwater work, in which several younger Na'vi jump into a coral reef and swim around hundreds of vividly rendered aquatic wildlife.## 20th Century Studios produced the film, with Cameron and Jon Landau producing on a budget of about $250 million, according to Variety. Anaheim, September 11 - Marvel Studios has revealed the solid star cast of its upcoming superhero movie Thunderbolts at the D23 Expo. Apart from showing footage of various upcoming Marvel titles, Marvel-head Kevin Fiege revealed Marvel's anti-hero team for "Thunderbolts", which will conclude MCU's Phase 5. ## Wyatt Russell (John Walker/US Agent), Hannah John-Kamen (Ava/Ghost), Red Guardian (David Harbour), and Julia Louis-Dreyfuss (Valentina Allegra de Fontaine) are all part of Thunderbolts, and so is Sebastian Stan's Winter Soldier, Florence Pugh's Yelena Belova/Black Widow, and Olga Kurylenko's Taskmaster. ## Red Guardian, Yelena, and Taskmaster all hail from the recent "Black Widow" movie, while Ghost was last seen in "Ant-Man and The Wasp". US Agent was one of the main antagonists of "The Falcon and The Winter Soldier", which of course also starred the beloved character Bucky Barnes.## Similar to DC's "Suicide Squad", the Thunderbolts are a team of antiheroes and villains who will be tasked to work together and achieve a certain goal. There have been dozens of members in the Thunderbolts comics. Washington, September 10 - Two years after the original announcement, Disney has confirmed Mufasa: The Lion King title of the prequel to the 2019 Lion King film at D23. The film will be directed by the acclaimed "Moonlight" director Barry Jenkins. ## According to Variety, the prequel tells the origin story of the iconic Disney father, exploring his childhood growing up with his brother Scar. The film will feature the voice of Aaron Pierre and Kelvin Harrison Jr. as younger versions of the characters, filling in for James Earl Jones as Mufasa in both the 1994 original and the 2019 CGI remake, and Jeremy Irons and Chiwetel Ejiofor as the villainous Scar.## In addition to announcing the title, exclusive preview footage of the film was also shown to the audience at the D23 expo. The footage began with Rafiki (John Kani) telling the story of Mufasa to young cubs, revealing that the lion was actually an orphaned cub who had to navigate the world alone until he rose to become the king of Pride Rock. ## As such, the film goes beyond the iconic Pride Lands to show him as a cub in a desert, where he is swept away by a flood and becomes an orphan. Although brief, the footage also included narration from Billy Eichner's Timon, in a meta joke tag for the footage: "Wait wait wait, am I not in this story? I don't feel seen".## "The Lion King" has been one of the most loved Disney films of all time, with both, the original and remake grossing over $2.6 billion at the global box office. The original remains a critically acclaimed classic and grossed over $960 million worldwide, followed by $1.66 billion for the remake in 2019. The Jaume Collet-Serra-directed movie is intended to be a spin-off from Shazam! (2019) and the 11th film in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). ## On Thursday (September 8), Warner Bros. India unveiled the new character poster from the movie and also announced the new trailer will be out tomorrow, September 9. It is now ahead of the Marvel blockbuster "Black Panther's" $700.4 million and is only the 6th film ever to top $700 million at the North American box office. ## According to Paramount, the sequel to Cruise's 1986 blockbuster film is the only film to ever be No. 1 at the domestic box office for both Memorial Day and Labor Day holidays.## "It's without a doubt, that 'Top Gun: Maverick' is a true cultural touchstone embodying the power of the cinematic experience. It finished its final run at $1.05 billion and was the highest-grossing film in the franchise, before Jurassic World surpassed it in 2015. ## The Chris Pratt-starrer "Jurassic World" is the highest-grossing film in the franchise with $1.67 billion at the worldwide box office (according to Box Office Mojo). Rowling has finally revealed why she missed the special reunion, and it was simply because it was not something she wanted to do. ## "I was asked to be on that and I decided I didn't want to do it", she told host Graham Norton during an appearance on his Virgin Radio UK show and clarifying she was not excluded from the reunion (according to Deadline). ## She added, "I thought it was about the films more than the book, quite rightly, that was what the anniversary was about. No one said don't [do it]...
