Plot: Abhijnanasakuntalam, a play written by Kalidasa, is one of the masterpieces of world literature. It is thrilling love story of the exquisitely beautiful Shakuntala and the mighty king Dushyanta. Dushyanta is the hero of the play. He possesses almost all the qualities of a brave and noble minded hero. Until one day, a sage's curse makes Dushyanta forget about Shakunthala. Shakunthala gets pregnant and gives birth to a girl. Dushyanta remembers and Shakunthala rejects him. Shakunthala's adoptive father tells the both about the sage's curse. Dharwasa made the curse.
Mythological Films are tough to execute. Not only you need good performances, but you also need good writing, casting, direction, music and almost every department should be good.
In case of Shaakuntalam, every department has done a poor job.
There is no chemistry between the lead actors. The love story should have been poetic but instead we see a women centric film more which isn't a problem but doesn't suit the film's narrative. Samantha tries her level best but still doesn't stand out due to bad writing
