Bholaa was good fun, and the movie jogs along well. It is the remake of Kaithi, and is almost identical but for a few different action scenes and a bit more backstory of the titular character (i.e. Ajay Devgnโs role). I thought Ajay did a good job of direction with this film - in his previous films , he did have the tendency to drag out the proceedings a tad bit much. Not so in Bholaa - the movie is tight and jogs along well. It is a taut action film and people who have not seen Kaithi will especially enjoy it. Even people who have seen Kaithi ought to like Bholaa - it offers enough of a change to keep the movie fun.
Tabu is marvelous as always, and this I thought was an inspired bit of casting. A good decision to replace Bejoy with Diana, as it were. Kaithi did not have any meaty roles for any of the actresses in it, but Bholaa does thanks to Tabu. The villains are great here - Deepak Dobriyal and Vineet Kumar are both brilliant. Gajraj Rao is alright but I thought Stephen Raj was loads better in the original. Sanjay Mishra was just awesome too - he played the constable role with aplomb. And of course, Ajay Devgn was very good as the titular Bholaa. The child artistes were decent enough and so were the four youth who are stuck in the police building along with Sanjay Mishra.
I really have nothing to complain about here - I also liked the extra breadth theyโve given here to set up the sequel. There is a neat cameo at the end that is fun, and another cameo that leaves you wanting more.
