Box Office: 'Kalki 2898 AD' Scores Biggest Opening Weekend For An Indian Movie In North America

Los Angeles, July 1 - It's raining records for Prabhas-fronted sci-fi epic Kalki 2898 AD which has scored the biggest opening weekend for an Indian movie in North America as it entered in the top 10 highest-grossing Indian film there, according to trade analyst Luiz Fernando. ## Directed by Nag Ashwin, Kalki 2898 AD scored an estimated $11.2 million (93.35 crores) in the 4-day opening weekend+Wednesday previews and is now the 8th biggest Indian title there after beating Salaar: Ceasefire's $8.90 million, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani's $10.6 million, and PK's $10.60 million entire run there. ## Kalki 2898 AD will next surpass Padmaavat ($12.20 million) and Dangal ($12.40 million) in the next couple of days as the 6th highest-grossing Indian title in North America. The movie will aim to enter the top 5 by next weekend and will eventually look to finish in the top 3, possibly as the biggest Indian grosser there at the end of its run. ## In the top 10 weekend grosser in North America, Kalki 2898 AD opened at number 5, beating Hollywood titles - The Garfield Movie ($2 million) and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes ($1.7 million). Box Office: 'Kalki 2898 AD' First Sunday Early Estimates

Mumbai, June 30 - All hell loose as Prabhas-fronted sci-fi epic Kalki 2898 AD hits the ball out of the park on its first Sunday as the movie is showing a jump of around 40% in the dubbed Hindi version which is phenomenal as Saturday was itself huge with approximately 26 crores net collection. ## The collection on Saturday was affected by the final of the T20 World Cup to some extent but Sunday made up for the lost ground. As said, Kalki 2898 stormed past the 100 crores net mark in the 4-day extended weekend after an estimated 38-40+ crores net (45-47+ crores gross) on its first Sunday for a total of around 110 crores net (~130 crores gross) in Hindi. ## The Hindi version collection is strong everywhere, be it in mass centres or multiplex and the trend is such that it will score well during the weekdays as there were some capacity issues at some places which are expected to come good in the coming days.## Apart from Hindi, the rest of the other versions were also firing all calendars on Sunday as the overall collection is flirting with 100 crores gross as estimates suggest 95-105 crores for all versions today and it could higher depending on South versions. Hyderabad, June 30 - Director Nag Ashwin's Kalki 2898 AD has topped 300 crores gross at the worldwide box office after the huge first Saturday despite the India and South Africa T20 World Cup final match which saw Men In Blue emerging winner in a thriller clash. ## The Prabhas-starrer movie, however, largely remained unaffected and grossed over 100 crores worldwide on its third day. Mumbai, June 28 - Pan India superstar Prabhas is set for another good ride at the Hindi box office after his sci-fi epic Kalki 2898 AD off to a superb start with approximately 22.50 crores net collection. The opening of the film is in the range of Hrithik Roshan's Fighter with a minor difference as the joint biggest of the year.## As has often been said in the last few years, Prabhas has emerged as the biggest superstar on the Pan India level and easily the biggest South India-origin star in the North. Despite his films not reaching the high end of the target, the actor has consistently delivered in Hindi, which the Bollywood stars have failed to do regularly. ## Since Baahubali (2015) which opened at 5.15 crores net in Hindi, Prabhas has done 6 movies, including Baahubali 2 and except for Radhe Shyam and Salaar, all the movies have taken an opening of 20+ crores net in the dubbed Hindi version. Hyderabad, June 28 - Director Nag Ashwin's sci-fi epic Kalki 2898 AD has had a sensational opening day at the domestic box office, clearing 100 crores gross mark and was equally strong overseas to put the movie among the top three biggest Indian openers of all-time. ## In India, the Prabhas-starrer blockbuster grossed approximately 114 crores in all versions. There were expectations of the movie scoring much more but the mass centres in Telugu states didn't show up as expected which kept the movie a little below the projected mark but big enough to set the tone for a massive opening weekend. ## In terms of language-wise gross collection, the original Telugu version scored approximately 78.50 crores, followed by the Hindi version with approximately 27 crores, and the rest of the languages grossed around 8.50 crores. Mumbai, June 27 - Kalki 2898 AD is off to a flying start a the Indian box office and is flirting with a potential 95 crores net collection in all languages. It has easily taken the biggest opening of the year and the biggest since KGF 2 by a long margin. ## Starring Prabhas in the lead role, the sci-fi epic is estimated to gross 65-70 crores in Telugu states, followed by 26-28 crores in North India. Hyderabad, June 23 - The Prabhas-mania has begun as the advance booking of the highly-anticipated Pan India movie Kalki 2898 AD is off to a flying start in the Telugu states with tickets getting sold like hotcakes. ## The full-fledged pre-sales of the sci-fi epic, directed by Nag Ashwin, were opened on the evening of June 23 in Telangana, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka. Mumbai, June 22 - No actor from South India has dominated the North India box office more than Prabhas, arguably the biggest Indian star at the Pan India level. He has been one of the major reasons for popularizing the term, Pan India in the modern era. ## There have been 9 South Indian films to enter the 100 crores net club in Hindi language and 5 of them are headlined by Prabhas. Salaar Part 1 (2023) - It was the first movie of Prabhas to emerge overall success since Baahubali 2 with a worldwide gross collection of over 600 crores. Hyderabad, June 20 - Telugu superstar Jr. NTR's Devara: Part 1 has locked theatrical rights for Telugu states with still more than three months left for the release. Directed by Koratala Siva, Devara is one of the year's most anticipated Pan-Indian movies, and the trade is buzzing about its box office potential. ## It was reported that Sithara Entertainment offered a huge 120 crores to acquire theatrical rights for Andhra Pradesh and Telangana states. While the quoted price has yet to be confirmed by reliable sources, it has been learned that area-wise distributors have been locked. ## According to Aakashavaani, Dil Raju will distribute the movie in the Nizam area, while Poorvi Pictures gets Vizag, LVR Adithya Films locks for West and Vijyalakshmi Cinemas for East area. In Guntur, Radhakrishna Entertainments will release the movie. Bhaskar Reddy and Dheeraj Entertainments will release the movie in Nellore and Krishna, respectively. In Ceeded, multiple distributors will distribute the film. ## Earlier, Anil Thadani of AA Films along with Karan Johar's Dharma Productions jointly grabbed the theatrical rights of Devara for the North India region. Hyderabad, June 19 - Pan India superstar Prabhas-fronted Kalki 2898 AD has completed censorship formalities with just over a week left for the release. The highly-anticipated sci-fi epic is directed by Nag Ashwin and it also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Disha Patani, and Kamal Haasan, among others. ## The censor screening of Kalki 2898 AD took place on June 18 and the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) passed the movie with a 'U/A' certificate and an approved runtime of 3 hours. ## The movie's 3D version was said to be shown in the CBFC screening and the reports say that the censor officials were left in awe by the film's groundbreaking visuals and Nag Ashwin's visionary direction.
