Box Office: 'Kalki 2898 AD' Scores Biggest Opening Weekend For An Indian Movie In North America
Los Angeles, July 1 - It's raining records for Prabhas-fronted sci-fi epic Kalki 2898 AD which has scored the biggest opening weekend for an Indian movie in North America as it entered in the top 10 highest-grossing Indian film there, according to trade analyst Luiz Fernando. ## Directed by Nag Ashwin, Kalki 2898 AD scored an estimated $11.2 million (93.35 crores) in the 4-day opening weekend+Wednesday previews and is now the 8th biggest Indian title there after beating Salaar: Ceasefire's $8.90 million, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani's $10.6 million, and PK's $10.60 million entire run there. ## Kalki 2898 AD will next surpass Padmaavat ($12.20 million) and Dangal ($12.40 million) in the next couple of days as the 6th highest-grossing Indian title in North America. The movie will aim to enter the top 5 by next weekend and will eventually look to finish in the top 3, possibly as the biggest Indian grosser there at the end of its run. ## In the top 10 weekend grosser in North America, Kalki 2898 AD opened at number 5, beating Hollywood titles - The Garfield Movie ($2 million) and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes ($1.7 million). Diljit Dosanjh and Neeru Bajwa's Punjabi blockbuster, Jatt and Juliet 3 also opened in the top 10 with $1.9 million (15.85 crores) in a 4-day weekend. ## Stay tuned...
