Ayushmann Khurrana To Headline Sourav Ganguly's Biopic; Vikramaditya Motwane To Direct

Mumbai, January 12 - Bollywood star Ayushmann Khurrana has reportedly confirmed to headline the biopic of former Indian cricketer Sourav Ganguly. "Lootera" director Vikramaditya Motwane has been attached to direct this ambitious film, to be produced by Luv Ranjan and Ankur Garg. ## It was reported last year that the supremely talented actor was in talks to play the larger-than-life role of Sourav Ganguly in his biopic and after months of speculations, Ayushmann has now officially signed to headline the film, according to Peepinmoon.com. ## "Producers Luv Ranjan and Ankur Garg, who are producing this film under their Luv Films banner, have hit a six by bringing together Ayushmann Khurrana and Vikramaditya Motwane. Both have established themselves as formidable forces with an incredible body of work throughout the years", the report says. ## The stakeholders are jubilant to bring Ayushmann Khurrana and Vikramaditya Motwane and the kind of cinematic masterpiece they are set to create together. The director has already begun working on the pre-production while Ayushmann will soon start his preparation for his role and will reportedly undergo months of intense cricket training before starting the shoot. ## The official announcement of the film will soon be made and it is expected to go on floors in the second half of 2024. Box Office: Shah Rukh Khan's 'Dunki' Third Week Collection

Mumbai, January 11 - Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan's Dunki has completed three weeks at the box office. The movie had a good first week domestically with approximately 160 crores net, before it dropped a bit heavily, around 71% in the second week and now in the third week, it has another drop.## Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, the social comedy-drama witnessed a drop of around 65% and scored approximately 15.25 crores net in its third week. It has slowed down after the Christmas and New Year weekend, which was expected given its drama genre. ## The total three-week collection of Dunki is approximately 221.75 crores net (266 crores gross) and it is heading towards finishing below the 250 crores mark, at around 230-240 crores lifetime net collection which is still good numbers given the genre and mixed word of mouth. ## At the overseas box office, Dunki has scored around 172 crores gross, and allied to its domestic collection, the movie has scored approximately 438 crores at the worldwide box office. The movie is produced by Dinesh Vijan's Maddock Films and Jio Studios. ## Billed as an impossible love story, TBMAUJ is a unique love story that has never been explored in Indian cinema. In the movie, Shahid Kapoor will be seen playing the role of a robotics guy while Kriti Sanon plays a robot. Mumbai, January 9 - Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan reunites with director Siddharth Anand for an aerial action thriller Fighter and the countdown has begun for its release on January 25. Deepika Padukone plays the female lead alongside Anil Kapoor in a prominent role. ## The teaser of the film was launched in December 2023 and it received a unanimous positive reception from the fans, and now, the makers are set to launch the action-packed trailer to escalate the buzz leading to the release. ## According to Pinkvilla, the trailer of Fighter will be released digitally on January 15, ten days before the big screen release of the film. Mumbai, January 8 - Bollywood star Ranbir Kapoor and director Sandeep Reddy Vanga's action drama Animal has become only the fifth film in history to breach the 500 crores net collection mark in the Hindi language after Baahubali 2, Pathaan, Gadar 2, and Jawan. ## Animal, released in December 2023, proved to be one of the biggest Indian blockbusters ever. The adult-rated action drama opened to historic numbers and became the first film to score 50+ crores net collection on three consecutive days, and went on to score over 300 crores net in the first weekend in Hindi. ## The movie held superbly in the second week to score over 130 crores net in Hindi, followed by another solid hold in the third week. In the first three weeks, the movie minted approximately 482 crores net in Hindi and 531 crores in all versions. ## In its 4th week, the pace of Animal slowed down due to the arrival of Shah Rukh Khan's Dunki and Prabhas-fronted Salaar. Indian Box Office Went Up By 10 Percent In 2023 As Compared To 2022

Mumbai, January 1 - The Indian box office in 2023 witnessed a rise of approximately 8% as compared to 2022. It was a year when Bollywood was back on top and dominated the overall Indian market, thanks to some of the biggest blockbusters of all time in the form of Pathaan, Jawan, Animal, and Gadar 2, among others. ## In 2023, the films across languages grossed an estimated 11400 crores (9700 crores net) at the Indian box office, while in 2022, it was an estimated 10550 crores gross (8850 crores net) collection. The Hindi language has had a sharp rise of approximately 45% while the Telugu language mostly remained flat and Tamil witnessed an upward trend but Kannada and Malayalam cinema scored a decline. ## Have a look at the language-wise break-down of the collection at the Indian box office in 2023 - ## Hindi - As said, it was an unforgettable year for Hindi cinema scoring an estimated 4800 crores net collection in 2023, as compared to 3300 crores in 2022. In 2023, Bollywood scored its first 500 crores net grosser in the form of "Pathaan", before "Gadar 2", "Jawan", and "Animal" joined the party in this prestigious club. Apart from the four 500+ crore net grossers, there were 10 other films, including Salaar which minted over 100+ crores net. ## Telugu - It wasn't a great year for Telugu cinema in terms of delivering a big blockbuster. The highest-grossing film in Telugu came in the last month of the year in the form "Salaar" which has minted over 200 crores net. Overall, the Telugu language contributed an estimated 1860 crores net in 2023 as compared to 1900 crores in 2022. 2024, however, could be the break-out year for Telugu cinema as almost all the top stars will be in action. ## Tamil - The Tamil cinema had good success in 2023 with 5 films topping 100+ crores net collection, and two of them ("Leo" and "Jailer") went on to top 200+ crores net. Overall, the Tamil language scored an estimated 1600+ crores net collection in 2023, as compared to 1560 crores in 2022. Just like Telugu, Kollywood could also witness a major turnaround in 2024 with multiple blockbusters lined up for the release. ## Malayalam and Kannada - The Kannada cinema witnessed a major decline in collection in 2023 in the absence of major hits. Last year, there were "Kantara" and "KGF 2" which made a large contribution, but in 2023, things were the opposite, resulting in, the Kannada language scoring an estimated 200 crores net, compared to 650 crores in 2022. ## The Malayalam cinema had a break-out success in 2023 in the form of "2018 Movie" along with some other box office hits but it failed to cross 2022 in terms of overall collection. Still, it had little idea what it would deliver in the following year which has now become the best year in Indian cinema history. ## 2023 was the year when Indian cinema delivered more than it promised with back-to-back blockbusters and at the same time, it also marked the comeback of some of its before 21st-century era superstars who used to rule the box office and the hearts of audiences with their sheer dominance.## The Year of Comebacks - ## Shah Rukh Khan - One of the biggest headlines of 2023 was the comeback of King Khan who turned king of action to regain his lost throne by delivering three major blockbusters in the year. There were chatters across social media platforms and within the industry that the time of SRK was gone but he not only proved everyone wrong but also became the first Indian actor to score two 1000+ crores grossers ever in the same year. The trade believes that Gadar 2 was the biggest box office break out of 2023. ## As 2023 was approaching its end, it witnessed one of the rare Indian talents, Ranbir Kapoor making his entry into the elite league of Bollywood superstars with an adult-rated film like Animal which is nearing 900 crores worldwide. It not only emerged as Ranbir's biggest blockbuster but also one of the biggest of all time in the history of Indian cinema, and to think that it was A-rated, this performance of the film looks nothing short of unimaginable. ## It was not only big stars who were delivering at the box office, filmmaker Vipul Shah's Tha Kerala Story was one of the films with the highest returns. Despite facing backlash from a section of society, the movie made the most of its unusual subject to gross over 300 crores worldwide against a budget of just around 15 crores. ## Tamil cinema too had major success in 2023 with a few blockbuster successes. The trade had expected Thalapathy Vijay's Leo and superstar Rajini's Jailer to emerge as blockbusters, but there were a few low to mid-budget films that stunned everyone with their performances.
