Hrithik Roshan-Jr. NTR's War 2 Bags Big Non-Theatrical Deals Worth 225 Crore

Mumbai, August 22 - Yash Raj Films' much-hyped spy action thriller War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR, has been underwhelming at the box office so far, with a disappointing first-week collection of around 315 crores worldwide. Ideally, the movie should have done this business or probably more in the opening weekend itself, but poor reviews and mixed word of mouth proved fatal. With no sign of rebound, Ayan Mukerji's directorial is heading towards emerging as a loss venture for YRF. As per trade estimates, the film will end up with around 50 crores in losses for the studio. Given the huge production costs and how the film has performed at the box office, the losses could have been higher, but the makers recovered most of it from the non-theatrical rights. According to reports, War 2's digital rights have been sold for 150 crores, while satellite rights brought 50 crores, and music rights brought 25 crores in revenue for YRF. The total non-theatrical revenue of around 225 crores has helped the studio to bring down the losses. The movie was reportedly made on a budget of over 400 crores, as the costliest film in the YRF Spy Universe. This includes the salaries of Jr. NTR (60 crores), Hrithik Roshan (35 crores), Ayan Mukerji (25 crores), and Kiara Advani (10 crores). Directed by Ayan Mukerji, War 2 is the 6th film in the Spy Universe, and the sequel to 2019's blockbuster War. It stars Telugu superstar Jr. NTR in his Bollywood debut, alongside Hrithik Roshan, who reprises his role from the first film, Kiara Advani and Anil Kapoor. ## Stay tuned...

IMAX CEO Bets High Hopes On Ranbir Kapoor, Yash's Ramayana, Calls It a Potential Global Success

Mumbai, August 21 - The Indian cinema has been taking giant steps in reaching the global audience over the last few years. There have been many films recently which worked wonders at the box office outside India, proving the growing impact of Indian films beyond national boundaries. ## Going ahead, there are plenty of films to look forward to, and one of them is producer Namit Malhotra's epic Ramayana. Starring Ranbir Kapoor and Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Raavan, and Sunny Deol as Hanuman, Ramayana is touted to be a ground-breaking Indian film, which has the potential to work wonders across the globe, according to Malhotra. ## Recently, the makers unveiled a 3-minute-long introduction teaser of Ramayana, which primarily focused on the quality of VFX, the vision of the director, which is unbelievably awesome. Filmed specially for large IMAX screens, the epic is being seen by the IMAX CEO as a wonder in the making. ## According to The LA Times, IMAX CEO Richard Gelfond has expressed strong optimism about the upcoming magnum opus Ramayana, calling it a project with the potential to break boundaries of Indian cinema and captivate international audiences. "Judging from what we've seen, this has all the elements to be a global success," Gelfond said.## His remarks reflect IMAX's growing interest in large-scale Indian productions as Hollywood grapples with fewer tentpole releases, and the appetite for epic storytelling expands worldwide. Over the last few years, IMAX has showcased just a handful of Indian films, but the upcoming Ramayana is its most prestigious Indian project yet. ## Meanwhile, Namit Malhotra, who has produced the film under Prime Focus Studio in association with Yash's Monster Mind Creations, wants to eliminate any language barriers for Ramayana. His DNEG, which is handling the VFX of the epic, is using syncing technology from its Brahma AI unit to seamlessly present the film in local languages for international audiences. ## The filmmaker said that Ramayana was seen as a global film from the day they started working on it. He has full confidence in the product and believes that it gonna be India's Avatar for the global audience. The film will be released in two parts, with the first part shceduled on Diwali 2026, followed by the second part on Diwali 2027. ## Stay tuned...

War 2 and Coolie's North-South Collaborations: Unlimited Expectations, Limited Outcomes Bollywood

War 2 and Coolie's North-South Collaborations: Unlimited Expectations, Limited Outcomes

Mumbai, August 20 - The much-hyped Independence Day weekend releases War 2 and Coolie were supposed to become the biggest box office clash of the decade of Indian cinema, but it turned out to be a wonderless show, where there was nothing magical as was anticipated. Both films were star-studded with top stars across industries coming on board. Both War 2 and Coolie were designed as grand North-South collaborations, promising to redefine the meaning of pan-India cinema. Rajinikanth-fronted Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, roped in Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan for a cameo to boost its chances in the Hindi market. Similarly, War 2 paired Bollywood's action icon Hrithik Roshan with Telugu superstar Jr. NTR, in what was marketed as one of the most ambitious crossovers ever attempted in Indian cinema. However, both films have fallen short of expectations as a whole, especially in those markets where the makers tried to steal gold. In the case of Coolie, Aamir Khan's surprise cameo was promoted as a masterstroke to expand the film's reach in the North, and there was a lot of noise on social media regarding the same. But despite initial curiosity, the cameo added little value to the film's performance in the Hindi-speaking markets, which remained lukewarm after the opening weekend. Reviews noted that Aamir's limited presence felt underutilised, and the cameo failed to translate into sustained box office gains outside Tamil Nadu. In Hindi, the movie is headed for mid-thirty crores net, which is not the result the makers would have hoped for. The final can also be attributed to Rajinikanth and Lokesh, who have some appeal in Hindi. While Aamir's presence didn't bring much to Coolie, it was disastrous for Yash Raj Films, which teamed with the Telugu superstar Jr. NTR in a full-fledged parallel lead in War 2, introducing him to a larger Hindi audience while giving the film strong traction in the South. Unfortunately, the result was far from what the makers envisioned, or it can be said that the box office numbers were disastrous. While the Hrithik-NTR combination had the potential to ignite fireworks, mixed word-of-mouth and an uninspiring narrative led to a steep decline after its initial surge. Even taking mixed reception out of the equation, War 2's performance in South Indian states is nothing short of shocking. In the South, where Jr. NTR is a megastar with a massive fan following, War 2 failed miserably, with the final collection will be less than a hundred crores gross outside the Hindi belt in India. The blame can be put on negative reviews and mixed audience reception, but this is not the first time that the films of these stars opened with such a reception. Jr. NTR's last film, Devara, didn't get favourable reviews, but still went on to become a box office hit with over 400 crores worldwide. Likewise, Aamir Khan's poorly received films used to do decent business. But this time, both stars failed to bring the audience to the strong markets, which will make the filmmakers think about cross-industry collaboration. Coolie's performance in the Hindi market is still understandable; Tamil cinema doesn't have much pull here, and cameos don't matter much as far as box office results are concerned. But War 2's results in Southern markets, especially in Telugu, despite Jr. NTR's full-fledged role, will make the filmmakers rethink their strategy regarding cross-industry collaboration. Ultimately, War 2 and Coolie highlight the limitations of North-South collaborations when they are driven more by marketing optics than by creative synergy. Both films generated massive anticipation on social media with their cross-industry appeal, but delivered little to shocking in terms of box office results. Their underwhelming performance proves that the future of pan-India cinema won't be defined by cameos or debuts, but by universal storytelling that truly connects audiences across linguistic and cultural divides. Surprise Hits of 2025: Low To Mid-Budget Films That Emerged as Winners at the Indian Box Office

Mumbai, August 19 - The year 2025 has been full of surprises at the Indian box office, and there are still five months left. Amid the frenzy of big-budget spectacles in 2025, a group of low to mid budget budget films stunned everyone by not only becoming critical successes but also box office winners. These films, spanning multiple languages and genres, didn't have the advantage of huge star power or massive marketing campaigns. Instead, they relied on storytelling, originality, and strong word-of-mouth to win hearts. Saiyaara (Hindi – Romantic Drama) - No one expected a debutant-led love story to become the biggest romantic hit in years, but Ahaan Pandey and Aneet Padda's chemistry, Mohit Suri's direction, and Mithoon's soulful music turned Saiyaara into a cultural phenomenon. Made on a budget of around 60 crores, the movie started strongly and exploded eventually as the week progressed, becoming the first Hindi romantic film to cross 300 crores net. Mahavatar Narsimha (Hindi – Animated Devotional Action Drama) - An animated retelling of the Narsimha avatar from the Puranas, Mahavatar Narsimha emerged as a surprise family favourite. Released with little hype and almost zero expectations, it tapped into the growing demand for Indian devotional content. Made on a budget of around 5-10 crores, the film's strong visuals and devotional storytelling led it to cross the 100 crore mark in just 10 days, making it the first Indian animated movie to achieve the feat. Dragon (Tamil – Coming-of-age Comedy Drama) - Starring Pradeep Ranganathan, Dragon is the biggest Tamil blockbuster of the year. It is a story about a college dropout who deceptively secures a high-paying job, but is forced to accept a major challenge to avoid being exposed. Made on a budget of around 20 crores, the movie went on to gross around 120 crores in India, as one of the highest-grossing Tamil titles of the year. Tourist Family (Tamil – Comedy Drama) - It is being hailed as one of the most heartwarming stories of the year. The story follows a Sri Lankan Tamil family who, following the Sri Lankan economic crisis, arrive in India in search of a better future. It was made on a budget of around 5 crores, and went on to gross over 70 crores in India, and became a big blockbuster. It is already the highest-grossing Kannada movie of the year with a domestic gross collection of over 50 crores, against the budget of around 4 crores. Thalaivan Thalaivii (Tamil – Romantic Action Comedy) - Starring Vijay Sethupathi and Nithya Menen, the film became another modest-budgeted Tamil box office hit of the year. It reportedly cost 25 crores the make, and it has already grossed around 60 crores domestically and is still going strong. Alappuzha Gymkhana (Malayalam – Sports Drama) - Directed by Khalid Rahman and starring Naslen among others, it is a story of a group of students, who, after failing exams, try entering college through sports quotas, picking boxing. They luck through district matches, but face uncertainty at higher competition levels. It was a success at the box office, grossing over 50 crores in India, against the budget of around 10 crores. F1 (Hollywood – Sports Drama) - Brad Pitt's F1, directed by Joseph Kosinski (of Top Gun: Maverick fame), was expected to perform well globally — but what surprised trade analysts was its exceptional run in India. Despite being a niche sports film centred on Formula 1 racing, F1 resonated with Indian audiences, thanks to sleek visuals, thrilling race sequences, and Brad Pitt's enduring star power. It grossed around 115 crores in India, emerging as one of the highest-grossing original Hollywood films. Stay tuned...

Directed by Adhik Ravichandran, Good Bad Ugly marked a major comeback for superstar Ajith Kumar, after the big failure of Vidaamuyarchi. Ajith's vintage avatar in the movie was celebrated by the fans worldwide. It became the first film of the actor to hit 200 crores worldwide gross, including a good performance in overseas markets. War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR, has underperformed at the box office, be it domestic or overseas. In the first 5 days, the film grossed approximately 63 crores internationally. The movie is directed by Ayan Mukerji and produced by Yash Raj Films. After the failure of Laal Singh Chaddha, Aamir Khan returned to winning ways with Sitaare Zameen Par, a heartfelt comedy-drama that follows a suspended basketball coach who must serve community service by helping a team of players with disabilities prepare for a tournament. Just like Ajith Kumar, SZP proved to be a comeback movie for Aamir Khan by emerging as a box office hit in India and overseas. Sikandar, one of the major letdowns of the year, this Salman Khan-led action drama failed to perform to expectations despite featuring among the top 10 biggest overseas grossers. Directed by a seasoned director like AR Murugadoss, Sikandar finished below 200 crores worldwide, while its overseas performance was also not good. What Sikandar proved for Bollywood, Thug Life met the same fate for Kollywood. Kamal Haasan's much-awaited action-thriller, directed by Mani Ratnam, blended artful filmmaking with mass entertainment. The film's international premieres were major events, boosting its overseas revenue. However, it turned into a big disaster, failing to capitalise on the huge buzz. Before scoring his biggest grosser with Good Bad Ugly, Ajith Kumar had a big setback with the action-drama Vidamuyarchi. It was among the biggest failures. With heavyweights like War 2 and Coolie yet to arrive, the overseas box office race of 2025 is far from over. But for now, Saiyaara sits at the top, proving that heartfelt romance can still rule the world stage in the age of action spectacles. Stay tuned...

Did AR Murugadoss Blame Salman Khan For Sikandar's Box Office Failure?

Chennai, August 19 - Tamil director AR Murugadoss has been in the media headlines ever since his film, Sikandar with Bollywood superstar Salman Khan, failed miserably at the box office and turned into one of the lowest-grossing films of the actor in many years. ## In one of the interviews, the Ghajini director reasoned that due to a language barrier, he couldn't properly execute his plans, which led to the downfall of the film. Now, a new report is circulating on social media where it is claiming that ARM blamed Salman for the film's box office failure. ## According to the many reports, referring to ARM's interview with Bhardwaj Ranjan, it is said that the filmmaker accused the Bajrangi Bhaijaan star of not coming on the set during the day, as they had to shoot the film only after 9 PM, even with school-going children. ## While it is true that ARM said the above thing, it is not entirely true that he put the blame on Salman. The filmmaker reasoned that due to death threats to the superstar (which are valid and genuine), they couldn't shoot the film during the day in open areas, and that is why they chose night schedules. ## Because of this unavoidable reason, the shooting of Sikandar had a lot of spot changes and involved CG work more than expected. The Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty director, however, claimed that he couldn't execute the original story, which was close to his heart. And that he was not the only one who was accountable for his poor execution, as he did not have a commanding unit. ## Meanwhile, ARM is gearing up for the release of Madharaasi, starring Sivakarthikeyan, which is scheduled for September 5. ## Stay tuned...

Hrithik Roshan, Jr. NTR's War 2 Enters 100 Crore Net Club In Hindi, But Underperforms In The Opening Weekend

Mumbai, August 18 - Yash Raj Films' much-awaited War 2 has officially crossed the 100 crore net mark in Hindi during its 4-day opening weekend, but the performance is being viewed as underwhelming compared to the sky-high expectations. Ideally, the movie should have done at least 200 crores net collections in the Hindi version, but the poor reviews and mixed word of mouth affected it badly. ## The film, featuring Hrithik Roshan, Jr. NTR, and Kiara Advani in the leading roles, was touted as one of the biggest box office events of 2024, riding on the legacy of the successful War (2019) and the Spy Universe. Despite the massive hype, War 2 disappointed and is now at risk of finishing as one of the lowest films in the YRF Spy Universe. ## 134th Hindi Film in the 100 Crore Club ## With its entry, War 2 becomes the 134th Hindi film to achieve the 100 crore net milestone. This number itself shows how the club, once considered elite, has become relatively common over the past decade. Still, crossing 100 crore within the first weekend remains an important benchmark for any big Bollywood release, but much more was expected from War 2. ## Hrithik Roshan's 8th 100 Crore Film ## For Hrithik Roshan, this is yet another addition to his enviable track record, something trade and fans feel could have been much brighter. War 2 marks his 8th film to cross the 100 crore net mark in Hindi, cementing his position as one of Bollywood's most bankable action stars. With films like Bang Bang!, Krrish 3, Super 30, War, and Fighter, Hrithik has consistently delivered big openers and strong box office runs. ## Jr. NTR’s 2nd Entry into the Club ## Originally hailing from Telugu cinema, superstar Jr. NTR is slowly making his presence felt in the Hindi market, even though it is still a long way to go. War 2 marks his first major Hindi outing, now has his 2nd film in the 100 crore Hindi net club after RRR. His presence in War 2 has boosted the film's pan-India appeal, especially among Telugu audiences, but again, the potential was cut short by unfavourable reception. ## Kiara Advani's 5th 100 Crore Film ## For Kiara Advani, who marks he debut in the Spy Universe, War 2 marks her 5th film to enter the 100 crore club, proving her consistency as one of Bollywood's top leading ladies. After hits like Kabir Singh, Good Newwz, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, and Jugjugg Jeeyo, she continues to grab headlines with big-ticket entertainers. ## Underwhelming But Crucial Week Ahead ## While the 100 crore milestone has been crossed, War 2 has largely underperformed in its opening weekend, given the hype, scale of release and the Independence Day holiday boost. The weekdays ahead will now be decisive. If the film shows strong hold, it could go on to achieve decent success, but a steep drop may limit its long-term box office prospects. ## Meanwhile, the film has grossed approximately 265 crores worldwide in its 4-day opening weekend in all languages, including 210 crores gross in India and 55 crores overseas. The movie will need to put up strong holds in the coming days to reach a respectable lifetime total. ## Stay tuned...

Rajinikanth's Coolie vs Hrithik Roshan, Jr. NTR's War 2 Day 3 Collection: Downward Trend Continues As YRF Film Sees Alarming Drop

Mumbai, August 17 - The much-hyped Independence Day box office clash between Tamil tentpole Coolie and Bollywood blockbuster War 2 is turning out to be a no-real clash as Rajinikanth-starrer is running away with a big lead, even though both films have underperformed compared to sky-high expectations. ## There were massive expectations from both films, as the trade circles had predicted a combined domestic gross of 600–700 crores during the extended four-day holiday weekend. However, the cumulative figure for Coolie and War 2 is now tracking under ₹450 crores gross, making the clash a dampener in terms of overall box office numbers. ## Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Coolie opened with historic numbers, delivering the biggest-ever opening for a Tamil film. The gangster action drama, despite receiving mixed to negative reviews, has managed to stay afloat with strong festival holiday support; however, the trend has been on the downward side.## After three days, Coolie has grossed over 185 crores in India and 320+ crores worldwide, becoming the fastest Tamil film to achieve the milestone of 300 crores. Day 3 saw a noticeable drop of around 30%, with collections of ₹45+ crores gross domestically, but the overall momentum still positions the film for an extended weekend in the 375–400 crores worldwide range. The key test lies ahead, as sustaining beyond the holiday period could be challenging with muted word of mouth. ## On the other side, Ayan Mukerji's directorial War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR, has struggled to hold after its underwhelming opening. The spy actioner saw an alarming 40% drop on Saturday, despite the Krishna Janmashtami holiday. The Telugu version collapsed, dipping below 10 crores gross, signalling weak traction in South markets. ## In Hindi, the film managed 26–27 crores net (32 crores gross) on Day 3, taking its three-day total to around 100 crores net (120 crores gross). The extended weekend is projected to close around 125 crores net (150 crores gross) in Hindi. However, the Telugu version is a letdown, with a 3-day haul of just 50 crores gross (42+ crores net). ## Overall, War 2 has clocked approximately 170 crores gross domestically (142+ crores net) and around 215 crores worldwide after three days. With poor reviews and mixed audience feedback, sustaining momentum during weekdays could prove difficult, mirroring Coolie's concerns. ## Stay tuned...

Rajinikanth's Coolie vs Hrithik Roshan, Jr. NTR's War 2 Day 2 Collection: Hindi Version Overcome Negative Reviews While Other Versions Succumb

Mumbai, August 16 - The Independence Day box office clash between two of the biggest Indian films of 2025 – Rajinikanth's Coolie and Hrithik Roshan, Jr. NTR's War 2 – continues to generate massive headlines. After the opening day, both films faced their own share of challenges on Day 2. ## Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Coolie had a record-breaking opening in India and overseas, but the negative reviews and mixed word of mouth affected the film badly, as overall day 2 collection dropped below 100 crores worldwide, especially the South Indian versions. ## War 2, on the other hand, had an underwhelming start of around 85 crores worldwide, and the second day collection is also in the same range. However, just like Coolie, the South Indian versions of Ayan Mukerji's directorial dipped badly, which is a concerning sign going forward. ## Hindi Version Scored Big Jump On Day For War 2 and Coolie ## While the negative reviews and mixed word of mouth have put a massive dent in both films' South India versions, it is the Hindi which found an upward trend with solid jumps. War 2 had the lowest opening in the YRF's Spy Universe with 29 crores net (Hindi), but the movie bounced back strongly on Friday, which also happened to be Independence Day holiday. ## The Hindi version of War 2 jumped by over 50% on the second day to score around 44.50 crores net (53 crores gross), pushing the two Hindi net to around 73.50 crores (88+ crores gross) in 2 days. The same happened with Coolie, for which the Hindi version witnessed a rise of around 40% to score approximately 6.30 crores net (7.50 crores gross), taking 2 days total to around 11 crores (13 crores gross). ## Overall, Coolie grossed approximately 64.75 crores in India on day 2 in all versions, dropping by around 15% from opening day figures, pushing total domestic cume to around 142 crores. War 2, on the other hand, jumped by around 10% to gross approximately 68.50 crores on the second day, for the two-day total of 130 crores gross. ## Coolie and War 2 Two Days Worldwide Collection ## After a huge overseas opening day of 76.75 crores, Coolie dipped massively on day 2 to gross around 30 crores, taking its total overseas collection to 106 crores. With this, the movie's worldwide collection stands at around 245 crores in 2 days. War 2 has grossed approximately 40 crores overseas in 2 days, for the worldwide cume total of 168 crores gross. ## Stay tuned...

War 2 Second Day (Day 2) Early Estimates: Hrithik Roshan, Jr. NTR-Starrer Gains Momentum After Slow Start

Mumbai, August 15 - After an underwhelming opening day collection of approximately 29 crores net, Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR-fronted War 2 has made a strong comeback at the box office in the Hindi version, with a solid jump of around 50%. ## The Ayan Mukerji's directorial action spectacle has taken the full advantage of the Independence Day holiday as early estimates suggest 43-45 crores net collection in Hindi on its second day, pushing total Hindi net to around 73 crores in two days. ## The movie got poor reviews from critics, while online audience reception also seemed to be mixed. Considering that, the movie has done very well on the second day. There might not be a big jump on Saturday or Sunday. If the movie manages to hold collection in the same range with marginal growth, it will give it a chance to perform during the weekdays, which needs to be seen. ## The jump in collections comes on the back of improved occupancies in major metros and solid evening and night show turnouts. The Independence Day holiday effect in some regions and strong single-screen performance in mass belts further contributed to the surge in the Hindi versions. ## While the Hindi version scores an encouraging surge in the collection, War 2's collection dips in Telugu versions, as all India estimates are in the range of 70 crores gross on the second day, which is otherwise a 10% growth from the opening day. It needs to be seen how the movie performs in non-Hindi versions going forward. ## Stay tuned...

Coolie vs War 2 Box Office Day 1: Rajinikanth-starrer Leads By Big Margin Against Hrithik Roshan, and Jr. NTR-fronted

Mumbai, August 15 - The heavyweight box office clash between Coolie and War 2 turned into a one-sided battle, as far as the opening day is concerned, as the superstar Rajinikanth-fronted has taken a big lead over the Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR-starrer, worldwide. ## Riding on the massive pre-release buzz, both films, however, met with mixed reception from critics, but the record-breaking advance booking of Coolie proved to be the difference between the two films on the opening day, both domestically and overseas box office. ## Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, the Tamil gangster action drama has created a record-breaking opening for Tamil cinema, with early estimates suggesting 155+ crores worldwide opening, including around a record 80 crores gross in India, and a record 75 crores gross in the international markets in all versions, including Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, and Kannada. ## On the other hand, Ayan Mukerji's directorial underperformed on its first day, especially in Hindi, despite releasing on over 5000 screens nationwide. In India, the movie grossed an estimated 65 crores in all versions, including around an estimated 35 crores (29 crores net) in the original Hindi version. ## In terms of domestic Hindi, War 2 has the lowest opening in the Yash Raj Films' Spy Universe, behind Ek Tha Tiger (33 crores net). Worldwide, the film minted around 85 crores gross (final number awaited), which is the third biggest opening in the Spy Universe, after Tiger 3 (94 crores) and Pathaan (105 crores). War 2 is the sixth film in the universe. ## Turn of Tides on Day 2? ## After the below-par opening, War 2 is showing a strong turnaround on the second day, which is Independence Day, with much higher occupancy than Coolie. As reported yesterday, the Google and BookMyShow ratings are much stronger for the Bollywood tentpole than the Tamil blockbuster, and that might change the tides going forward. ## If this momentum continues, beyond the Holiday period, War 2 might emerge winner in this mega box office clash, but for now, Coolie has a clear lead over its rival in the overall collection. ## Stay tuned...

Sunny Deol's Border 2 Release Date Moved Up As Makers Unveil The First Look Poster

Mumbai, August 15 - One of the most anticipated Indian films of next year, Sunny Deol-fronted war action drama Border 2, is now set to arrive in theatres a day earlier than originally announced. Directed by Anurag Singh, the movie is the sequel to the iconic 1997 blockbuster Border. The announcement came on the occasion of Independence Day (August 15), when the makers unveiled the film's first-look poster, confirming a new January 22, 2026, release date. The striking poster features Sunny Deol in full army gear, seemingly amidst the chaos of battle, evoking strong patriotic emotions and nostalgia for the original film with "Hindustan Meri Jaan" playing in the background. With the new date, Border 2 will enjoy a Thursday release, kicking off an extended five-day Republic Day weekend. If audience reception is strong, trade analysts believe the film could register one of the biggest opening weekends ever for a Hindi film at the domestic box office. Sunny Deol will reprise his legendary role of Major Kuldip Singh Chandpuri, MVC, VSM, immortalised in the original. Joining him are Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, Ahan Shetty, and debutante Medha Rana in pivotal roles, promising a blend of seasoned star power and fresh energy. War 2 Opening Day (Day 1) Early Estimates: Hrithik Roshan, Jr. NTR-starrer Underperforms At The Box Office

Mumbai, August 14 - Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR-fronted spy action thriller has opened to lower-than-expected numbers in the Hindi version, and is in real danger of scoring the lowest opening of YRF's Spy Universe, according to early estimates. ## Despite massive buzz, a holiday period, and being part of YRF's successful Spy Universe, the film is estimated to have collected 29-31 crore net in Hindi on its opening day. If the estimates hold, it will be the lowest debut in Spy Universe, behind Ek Tha Tiger, which opened to around 33 crores net in 2012.## Trade analysts were expecting the film to debut closer to the last Spy Universe film, Tiger 3 (43 crores net) or even higher, given the scale, star power, and pre-release marketing push. However, mixed factors such as competition from Rajinikanth's Coolie in southern markets, and slightly cautious audience reception seem to have impacted its performance. ## While the Hindi version has underperformed compared to expectations, the film is seemingly performing much stronger in the Telugu version, thanks to Jr. NTR's massive fan base. The total India gross for Day 1 is expected to be higher once all language versions are accounted for, as estimates suggest 60+ crores gross. ## With the Independence Day holiday boost and the weekend ahead, War 2 still has a chance to recover ground. Interestingly, the film has much better ratings than Coolie on BookMyShow and Google, so the hope is still there for a turnaround if those ratings turn into footfalls. ## Stay tuned...

Hrithik Roshan, Jr. NTR's War 2 Dominates Rajinikanth's Coolie in Early Google and BookMyShow Ratings

Mumbai, August 14 - Two of the biggest movies of the year, YRF's spy action thriller War 2 and Sun Pictures' gangster action drama Coolie finally hit the big screens on August 14 amid huge fanfare and buzz. Before debuting, it was Coolie which was single-handedly dominating War 2 in pre-sales, but things might change going forward. ## The highly anticipated box office clash between Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR-starrer and Rajinikanth-fronted have taken an intriguing turn. While critics' reviews for both titles are poor, the audience reception is not aligning with them, at least, as far as ratings are concerned. ## If Coolie dominated the pre-sales, things have taken an intriguing turn, with early audience ratings showing a surprising lead for the YRF Spy Universe entry. On Google reviews, War 2 has emerged as the early favourite, securing an impressive 4.6/5 rating from around 13K votes, while Coolie, has opened to a respectable but lower 4.1/5 rating from nearly 8K votes.## A similar trend is visible on BookMyShow, where War 2 currently boasts an 8.8/10 audience score from 24K votes, edging out Coolie's 7.8/10 from 33K votes. The higher word-of-mouth index for War 2 indicates that early viewers are responding strongly to the action-packed spy thriller's scale, visuals, and the powerhouse pairing of Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR. ## While Coolie has been breaking advance booking records for Tamil cinema, these early rating numbers suggest that War 2 might have the upper hand in the post-release perception battle. However, with both films riding on massive star power and fan bases, the real test will unfold over the extended Independence Day weekend, when walk-in audiences and repeat viewers could shift the momentum. ## Stay tuned...

From Kaabil to Fighter, Hrithik Roshan's Box Office Journey In The Last Decade — A Road to War 2

Mumbai, August 14 - From the emotional depth of Kaabil to the mathematical genius of Super 30, the high-octane thrills of War, the layered storytelling of Vikram Vedha, and the groundbreaking aerial spectacle of Fighter, Hrithik Roshan's filmography over the past decade showcases a rare blend of versatility and star power. Each project has expanded his range — from intense drama to big-budget action — while strengthening his position as one of Indian cinema's most bankable and ambitious actors. With War 2 on the horizon, uniting him with director Ayan Mukerji in YRF's spy universe, the stage is set for yet another milestone in a career that continues to balance mass appeal with memorable performances. ## Kaabil (2017) ## Directed by Sanjay Gupta and produced by Rakesh Roshan, Kaabil is a romantic action thriller starring Hrithik Roshan and Yami Gautam, alongside Ronit Roy, Rohit Roy, and Narendra Jha. It tells the story of a visually impaired couple whose life is shattered after Supriya is assaulted; when the legal system fails them, Rohan meticulously hunts down those responsible. Hrithik prepared for the role by isolating himself for days to inhabit the character’s mindset. ## Released in early 2017, the film drew praise for Hrithik's blend of vulnerability and vengeance, with Rajesh Roshan’s music and Salim–Sulaiman’s background score amplifying the emotional intensity. Notably, on February 2, 2017, Kaabil became the first Indian film to release in Pakistan after the lifting of the ban on Indian films following the 2016 Uri attack. In a gesture of admiration, Rakesh Roshan arranged a special screening of Kaabil for the legendary actor Rajinikanth, who praised both the trailer and Hrithik’s performance. At the box office, it recorded ₹104.34 crore India net, ₹145.8 crore India gross, and ₹32.3 crore overseas, for a worldwide total of ₹178.1 crore. ## Super 30 (2019) ## Directed by Vikas Bahl and written by Sanjeev Dutta, this biographical drama stars Hrithik Roshan as mathematician Anand Kumar, alongside Mrunal Thakur, Nandish Sandhu, and Pankaj Tripathi. It was the last movie produced by Phantom Films before the company disbanded amid internal controversies. The film tells the true story of Anand Kumar’s program training 30 underprivileged students for the IIT entrance exam. ## It was filmed in Patna-inspired sets at Ramnagar Fort and at Banaras Hindu University, the first Hindi film to shoot there. Over 15,000 young actors were auditioned to portray the students. Just three days after its release, Super 30 was declared tax-free in Bihar, a gesture aimed at promoting its educational message. Subsequently, a record eight Indian states granted tax-free status—an exceptional feat for a commercial Bollywood film. The film grossed over ₹147.39 crore in India net, ₹171 crore in India gross, and ₹39 crore overseas, for a worldwide total of ₹210 crore, becoming the 12th highest-grossing Hindi film of 2019. ## War (2019) ## A Yash Raj Films production directed by Siddharth Anand, this action spectacle stars Hrithik Roshan as Kabir and Tiger Shroff as Khalid, with Vaani Kapoor, Ashutosh Rana, and Anupriya Goenka in supporting roles. The story follows Khalid, a loyal soldier, tasked with eliminating his former mentor Kabir, who has gone rogue. War was one of the most expensive Indian films ever made, featuring globe-trotting chase sequences and razor-sharp action that stood toe-to-toe with Hollywood standards. ## Filmed across India and exotic locations in Portugal, Italy, Finland, Sweden, Georgia, and Australia, it famously became the first Indian film to shoot an action climax on the Arctic Circle, requiring a five-month wait for shooting permission. The production crew took three months to prep, and actual filming lasted six days. The movie emerged as the biggest blockbuster of the lot with ₹318.01 crore India net, ₹375 crore India gross, ₹96 crore overseas, and a worldwide total of ₹471 crore, making it the highest-grossing Bollywood film of 2019, noted for its breathtaking stunts, global scale, and slick choreography. ## Vikram Vedha (2022) ## This Hindi remake of the acclaimed Tamil film is directed by Pushkar–Gayathri and stars Hrithik Roshan as gangster Vedha and Saif Ali Khan as police officer Vikram, with Radhika Apte, Rohit Saraf, Yogita Bihani, and Sharib Hashmi in pivotal roles. The narrative follows Vikram’s pursuit of Vedha, who surrenders voluntarily and narrates morally complex stories that challenge Vikram’s black-and-white worldview. Shot across Abu Dhabi and Lucknow, the film blends neo-noir and thriller elements, with early casting rumours once linking Shah Rukh Khan to Vedha’s role. The movie fared moderately at the box office by wrapping its theatrical run with an India net collection of ₹78.90 Cr, an India gross collection of ₹93.10 Cr, and an overseas total of ₹42.34 Cr, resulting in a worldwide cumulative of ₹135.44 Cr. ## Fighter (2024) ## Starring Hrithik Roshan, Deepika Padukone and Anil Kapoor, along with Karan Singh Grover, Akshay Oberoi, and Rishabh Sawhney, the film follows an elite Indian Air Force squadron, "Air Dragons", assembled to counter a terrorist threat led by Azhar Akhtar. Mixing high-octane aerial combat with personal arcs and romance. The project was first revealed by Hrithik Roshan himself on his birthday, 10 January 2021, building early buzz. Directed by Siddharth Anand, Blending themes of patriotism and camaraderie, the film, originally slated for September 2022, was released on Republic Day 2024, marking Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone’s first on-screen pairing in a feature film and showcasing some of the most ambitious VFX-driven aerial sequences ever seen in Indian cinema. ## The film premiered on Republic Day weekend (25 January 2024), marking Deepika Padukone’s fourth release aligned with the national celebration—after Race 2 (2013), Padmaavat (2018), and Pathaan (2023). The movie solidified the third collaboration between Hrithik Roshan and director Siddharth Anand, each instalment spaced exactly five years apart: Bang Bang! (2014), War (2019), and now Fighter (2024). Fighter earned ₹212.75 crore in India net, ₹255 crore India gross, and ₹104 crore overseas, bringing its worldwide total to ₹359 crore. ## War 2 (2025) ## War 2 is the official sequel to the 2019 blockbuster War and the sixth instalment in the Yash Raj Films (YRF) Spy Universe. Directed by Ayan Mukerji and produced by Aditya Chopra, the film marked a notable shift in creative direction from the original's director, Siddharth Anand. Filming commenced in early 2024, covering multiple countries including Spain, Italy, Abu Dhabi, Japan, Russia, and India, with a projected budget nearing ₹400 crores. War 2 stakes its claim as one of the most expensive Indian spy thrillers ever made. The teaser dropped on Jr NTR’s birthday, highlighting a high-voltage face-off between Hrithik and Jr NTR, garnering significant social media buzz. The release also represented a cultural moment: not just Jr NTR's Bollywood debut but also a symbolic introduction of Hrithik to Telugu audiences.## Stay tuned...

Hrithik Roshan, Jr. NTR's War 2 vs YRF Spy Universe: Opening Day Box Office Battle

Mumbai, August 13 - The Spy Universe from Aditya Chopra's Yash Raj Films has completed over a decade with five blockbuster titles during this time. The studio has delivered many iconic blockbusters, from romantic to family dramas, and action entertainers, but Spy Universe is a whole new world altogether, with some of the biggest blockbusters coming from it. ## The YRF Spy Universe has delivered some of Bollywood's biggest opening days, and with the upcoming War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR, the franchise is once again in the spotlight. The film has generated significant attention as it marks the first collaboration between North and South in the spy universe. ## Despite the powerhouse collaboration, the film opened lower than initial expectations. The opening of this spy action thriller is still big enough to set the base for an excellent Independence Day opening weekend (if WOM is positive), but as far as Spy Universe is concerned, War 2 debuted lower than Salman Khan's Ek Tha Tiger, making it the lowest opener in the spy universe. ## Have A Look At The Opening Day India Net Collection of Spy Universe Films (Hindi)Movie TitleYearDay 1 CollectionChange (%) From Last FilmEk Tha Tiger2012₹ 32.93 Cr-Tiger Zinda Hai2017₹ 34.10 Cr+3.55%War2019₹ 51.60 Cr+51.32%Pathaan2023₹ 55.00 Cr+6.59%Tiger 32023₹ 43.00 Cr-21.82%War 22025₹ 29.00 Cr-32.56%## Since its inception with Ek Tha Tiger in 2012, the franchise has steadily grown in scale and box office impact. Tiger Zinda Hai in 2017 slightly upped the game with the bigger opening, but the real jump came in 2019 when War, featuring Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff, exploded with 50+ crore debut, setting a new record. ## In 2023, Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan pushed the ceiling even higher by becoming the biggest opener in the Spy Universe. Later that same year, Tiger 3 also made a strong impact, but failed to beat Pathaan and War. Against this backdrop, War 2 (2025) was expected to open around 35 crore net in India, but it failed to do so. ## The road to record-breaking glory is not without hurdles. The film faces stiff competition from Rajinikanth's Coolie, which dominated pre-release hype and advance sales. Additionally, while Jr. NTR's inclusion has boosted appeal in Telugu-speaking markets; the Hindi belt response has been more measured compared to past Spy Universe entries. ## Stay tuned...
