Top 5 Box Office Weekend Grossers (May 8-10): Raja Shivaji Leads As Bhooth Bangla and Michael Continue To Draw Audiences

BY SUNIT JANGIR

Mumbai, May 11 - The Indian box office continued to witness steady footfalls as it delivered another good weekend between May 8 and May 10, with films from multiple industries performing decently across the country. From Marathi historical dramas to Bollywood horror-comedies and Hollywood releases, audiences continued to support a wide variety of theatrical offerings. Raja Shivaji Continues Its Solid Run (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Leading the weekend charts was Riteish Deshmukh's historical epic Raja Shivaji, which emerged as the biggest grosser of the frame with a solid 15.60 crore net collection. The film has turned into a major success story for Marathi cinema and continues to dominate several markets with exceptional occupancy and positive word-of-mouth. The film once again proved its strong box office pull by comfortably taking the top position during the weekend. The historical drama has been witnessing superb momentum ever since its release and is now among the biggest Marathi blockbusters in recent years. Bhooth Bangla and Michael Hold Strong Despite Competition (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Akshay Kumar's horror-comedy Bhooth Bangla secured the second spot with 8.75 crore during the May 8-10 weekend. Despite multiple new releases and increasing competition, the film continued to attract family audiences and horror-comedy fans in good numbers. It has already emerged as one of the major Hindi hits of the year and continues to post healthy collections, especially in multiplexes and urban centres. Hollywood musical biopic Michael was another solid performer as it collected 7.55 crore net over the weekend and secured the third position on the list. The film has shown particularly strong performance in premium multiplex chains and metro cities. Its sustained run highlights the growing audience for musical dramas and event films in India, especially among younger viewers and urban audiences. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Krishnavataram Part 1 Overperformed In Debut Weekend The devotional drama Krishnavataram Part 1: The Heart surprisingly secured a good opening as it collected 7.30 crore during the weekend. Despite featuring known faces, the film benefited from its genre, which is becoming popular among Indian family audiences. It opened to a modest number but witnessed good growth over the weekend to secure a good collection. Closing the top five list was Hollywood film Mortal Kombat II, which earned around 5.40 crore net during its opening weekend in India. The action sequel managed to generate decent traction among franchise fans and action movie lovers. The film performed particularly well in urban centres and premium screens, helping it secure a respectable debut despite competition from established Indian releases. The combined total of all 5 movies was 44.80 crores net which is a good number. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Top 5 Box Office Weekend Grossers (May 8-10) S. BY CHRISTA LINCY

The first part of Hardik Gajjar's mythological epic, Krishnavataram Part 1: The Heart, has completed its four-day extended opening weekend. Reimagining the life of Lord Krishna through the perspective of Satyabhama, the film has seen a steady climb in its collections since its release on Thursday. While the starting point was modest, the day-on-day growth suggests that the film is finding its audience, particularly those interested in a fresh take on traditional sagas. If we look at the collection trend, the film started with 0.42 crore on Thursday. However, it witnessed a massive jump of 173.8 percent on Friday, bringing in 1.15 crore. The momentum continued into the weekend, with Saturday recording 2.25 crore and Sunday hitting its peak at 3.50 crore. This upward trajectory indicates that word-of-mouth is gradually helping the film gain traction across the country. In total, the film has earned 7.32 crore net in India over the first four days. The film started with just 510 shows on its opening day but ended the weekend with 1,995 shows on Sunday. More importantly, the occupancy rates improved alongside the increase in shows. Sunday recorded an average occupancy of 37.7 percent, which is more than double the opening day's 18 percent. This suggests that more shows had been added to keep up with the weekend demand. The Hindi version has been the primary driver, though the film also saw healthy occupancy in Tamil and Telugu markets. Looking at the performance in major national chains like PVR, INOX, and Cinepolis, the growth was consistent. On Friday, these chains sold roughly 5,960 tickets in total. This number more than doubled on Saturday, reaching approximately 12,360 tickets. Sunday saw another significant jump, with the chains selling nearly 26,370 tickets. Specifically on Sunday, PVR contributed around 11,970 tickets, followed by INOX with 8,520 and Cinepolis with 5,880. This cumulative total of over 44,000 tickets from the main multiplex chains shows a solid interest from urban audiences. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Here is the breakdown of the total collections as the film stands after its initial four-day run: Hindi Net: ₹ 7.02 Cr Telugu Net: ₹ 0.17 Cr Tamil Net: ₹ 0.13 Cr Total India Net: ₹ 7.32 Cr Total India Gross: ₹ 8.77 Cr Worldwide Gross: ₹ 8.77 Cr When we look at the show distribution across languages, the movie was screened in a total of 5,767 shows during its four-day opening run. The Hindi version led the release with 5,405 shows and recorded an average occupancy of 26.5 percent. The Telugu version was played in 228 shows with an occupancy of 28.6 percent, while the Tamil version had a count of 134 shows with an occupancy of 38.7 percent. These figures represent the reach of the film in different markets during its initial weekend phase. The narrative of the film, led by Siddharth Gupta as Krishna and Sanskruti Jayana as Satyabhama, focuses on the human side of the divine protagonist. Hardik Gajjar, who previously directed Bhavai, has focused on the emotional complexities of Krishna's relationships with Radha, Rukmini, and Satyabhama. With Jackie Shroff playing a mentor figure and a technical team that has focused on the visual grandeur of Dwarka and Vrindavan, the film is attempting to set a strong foundation for the subsequent parts of the trilogy. As it enters the first Monday, the film will need to maintain a steady hold to ensure a long theatrical run.

Mohanlal's Drishyam 3 Confirmed To Be Released In Telugu, Kannada, and Tamil Dubbed Versions

BY SUNIT JANGIR

Kochi, May 11 - The buzz surrounding Drishyam 3 continues to grow bigger with every passing day. After a strong response to the film's promotional material and initial advance bookings, the makers have now confirmed that the Mohanlal-starrer will release not only in Malayalam but also in Telugu, Tamil, and Kannada dubbed versions. Jeethu Joseph Confirms Dubbed Version Release of Drishyam 3 (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Director Jeethu Joseph confirmed in an interview that the dubbed versions are being prepared alongside the original Malayalam release. Unlike the previous instalments, which were later remade in different industries, the third part is expected to arrive simultaneously for audiences across South India. This move is seen as an attempt to capitalise on the nationwide popularity of the franchise and Mohanlal's growing reach outside Kerala. The development also reportedly rules out the possibility of separate remakes in some industries, especially Telugu cinema. The earlier Telugu adaptations, titled Drushyam and Drushyam 2, featured Venkatesh Daggubati in the lead role and were successful at the box office. With the Telugu version being planned, the remake option is no longer in the making. Meanwhile, the Hindi remake of Drishyam 3, starring Ajay Devgn, is already in production for an October 2, 2026, release. Strong Advance Booking In Kerala and Overseas (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Drishyam 3 has already started its box office journey on a promising note. The pre-sales of the film have crossed 2 crore gross in Kerala, while worldwide sales have topped 5 crores gross for the opening day, with several days still left for release on May 21, plus the full-fledged bookings are yet to open in many regions. The strong initial response reflects the massive anticipation surrounding Georgekutty’s return and the continuation of one of Indian cinema’s most iconic thriller sagas. The Drishyam franchise remains one of Indian cinema's most celebrated thriller series. The first film became a blockbuster and was later remade in multiple languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Sinhala, and even Chinese. The sequel was released directly on Amazon Prime Video and scored solid viewership, strengthening the franchise's reputation for gripping storytelling and unpredictable twists.

Daadi Ki Shaadi 1st Weekend Box Office: Kapil Sharma Starrer Struggles To Find Momentum With Just Rs. 3.45 Crore India Net

BY CHRISTA LINCY

Daadi Ki Shaadi has completed its first weekend at the box office, and the data suggests the film is finding it difficult to attract a large audience. The opening collections remain on the lower end, and although Sunday saw a jump, the low starting point has resulted in a modest three-day total of 3.45 crore net in India. If we look at the daily breakdown, the movie started its journey on Friday with 0.60 crore, followed by 1.15 crore on Saturday and 1.70 crore on Sunday. While the 47.8 percent growth on Sunday is visible, the film is struggling with low momentum. This is evident from the fact that shows were reduced from 1,789 on Friday to 1,655 by Sunday as the movie is underperforming. Because screens are being shared with other better-performing titles, the rise in occupancy to 22 percent is more a result of having fewer available shows rather than a genuine surge in audience interest. The ticket sales momentum on BookMyShow also showed a slight upward trend as the weekend progressed. On Saturday, the platform recorded roughly 26,730 tickets booked in a 24-hour window, which increased to about 29,360 tickets on Sunday. In the national chains, including PVR, INOX, and Cinepolis, the footfalls followed a similar pattern. On Friday, these chains sold approximately 4,000 tickets. This moved up to 5,000 tickets on Saturday and saw a more significant spike on Sunday with 10,500 tickets. In total, the national chains contributed over 19,000 tickets over the three-day weekend. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Daadi Ki Shaadi - 1st Weekend India Net CollectionDAY NUMBERINDIA NET COLLECTIONDay 1 (1st Friday)₹ 0.60 CrDay 2 (1st Saturday)₹ 1.15 CrDay 3 (1st Sunday)₹ 1.70 CrTotal 1st Weekend₹ 3.45 Cr A major point of discussion is the lead actor Kapil Sharma’s track record at the box office. While he is a massive star on television, his transition to lead roles in cinema has been difficult. His debut film Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon in 2015 was a hit, but his subsequent lead ventures like Firangi in 2017 and the more recent Zwigato in 2023 failed to make a mark at the box office, with Zwigato struggling to even cross the 2 crore mark. Daadi Ki Shaadi seems to be following a similar trend where his presence is not translating into a big theatrical opening. Even with seasoned actors like Neetu Kapoor and R. Sarathkumar, and the acting debut of Riddhima Kapoor Sahni, the film is currently underperforming against its production scale. The plot itself is a situational comedy directed by Ashish R. Mohan, revolving around a grandmother in Shimla who decides to remarry a retired army officer. This sets off a chaotic chain of events as her disapproving family rushes from Delhi to stop the wedding. While the movie attempts to blend the emotional core of a film like Baghban with a humorous twist, it hasn't quite captured the audience's imagination in a big way yet. With a total India gross of 4.14 crore after three days, the film will need to maintain its Sunday levels throughout the weekdays to avoid a sharp crash. However, given the current occupancy trends, the road ahead looks quite challenging.

Raja Shivaji Box Office: Riteish Deshmukh's Historical Epic Approaches 100 Crore After 18.50 Crore In Second Weekend

BY SUNIT JANGIR

Mumbai, May 11 - Riteish Deshmukh's historical action drama Raja Shivaji is approaching 100 crores gross after another good weekend at the Indian box office. The film, based on the life of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, remains the top choice among moviegoers despite new releases and strong holdovers across languages. Raja Shivaji Earned 18.50+ Crore Gross In Second Weekend (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The film kicked off the second weekend with 3.80 crores gross on Friday, followed by 75% jump on Saturday to collect 6.70 crores gross. Raja Shivaji witnessed another solid jump of 21% on Sunday, grossing around 8.10 crores, for a cumulative estimated gross of 18.60 crores (15.60 crores net) in the second weekend. Raja Shivaji witnessed a drop of around 53% from the opening weekend, which is a solid hold for a Marathi record-breaking opener. In the original Marathi version, the film has grossed 57 crore (48 crore net) while the Hindi version has contributed 24 crore (20.25 crore net) in 10 days so far. Raja Shivaji Heading Towards 100 Crore Gross (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Produced by Jio Studios and Mumbai Film Company, Raja Shivaji is already the third highest-grossing Marathi film of all-time with 81 crore gross, after beating Riteish Deshmukh's Ved (73 crore gross) over the second weekend. It is now behind only Baipan Bhari Deva (90.50 crore gross) and Sairat (110 crore gross) in the all-time biggest Marathi blockbusters. The film was expected to enter the 100 crores gross club in the second week itself, but it is now projected to achieve the feat in the third weekend. However, it will be crossing Baipan Bhari Deva before the second week ends to become the second biggest Marathi grosser of all-time, and will be looking to down Sairat in the third week to emerge as the biggest industry grosser. How Far Raja Shivaji Can Climb At The Box Office? (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The Riteish Deshmukh starrer and directorial, though performing strongly, has limited appeal outside the home state, Maharashtra. It is also not benefiting from having the perception of being a regional project, which has limited its nationwide reach. A Bollywood film of this scale could have fetched much more, but that is not the case with Raja Shivaji. However, despite the limitations, Raja Shivaji should be able to reach 125 crores gross in its lifetime run, which is a strong result for a Marathi title. It continues to remain strong in Maharashtra, which is driving its overall collection.

Bhooth Bangla 4th Weekend Box Office: Sunday Collections Jump By 36%; Needs Over 23 Cr More To Beat Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2

BY CHRISTA LINCY

The long-awaited reunion of Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan after 14 years is proving to be a successful venture at the box office. Bhooth Bangla has completed its fourth weekend, and the numbers indicate that the horror-comedy genre continues to be a favorite for the family audience. It is rare for a film to show such a healthy growth percentage this late in its run, but the Priyadarshan touch seems to be keeping the momentum steady. If we look at the ticket sales activity over these three days, the trend is quite positive. On BookMyShow, the film recorded 28.38K tickets on Friday, which jumped to 51.52K on Saturday, and saw its best performance on Sunday with 59.31K tickets. This brings the three-day BookMyShow total to a solid 139.21K tickets. In the major national chains like PVR, INOX, and Cinepolis, the growth was even more apparent. The film sold approximately 3,360 tickets on Friday, which increased significantly to about 10,130 on Saturday, and reached 16,330 on Sunday. This gives us a cumulative total of roughly 29,820 tickets from the national chains alone over the weekend. Bhooth Bangla - 4th Weekend India Net CollectionDAY NUMBERINDIA NET COLLECTIONDay 22 (4th Friday)₹ 1.75 CrDay 23 (4th Saturday)₹ 3.00 CrDay 24 (4th Sunday)₹ 4.00 CrTotal 4th Weekend₹ 8.75 Cr (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The collection growth on Sunday was particularly notable. After earning 1.75 crore on Friday and 3.00 crore on Saturday, the film saw a 33.33 percent spike on Sunday to collect 4.00 crore net. This brings the fourth-weekend total to 8.75 crore. Currently, the total India net collection stands at 158.75 crore, which translates to a domestic gross of 188.39 crore. When we add the overseas gross of 53.10 crore, the worldwide gross collection has reached 241.49 crore. The film has maintained its show count well, running across 4,291 shows on Sunday with a 21 percent occupancy rate. Now, the big question is how it compares to other major horror-comedy hits. Currently, Bhooth Bangla is chasing the record of Kartik Aaryan’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, which has a worldwide gross of 265.50 crore. With Bhooth Bangla sitting at 241.49 crore, it needs another around 23.80 crore to cross that mark. Given the steady performance in the fourth week, we can estimate that Bhooth Bangla will likely cross the Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 worldwide total by the end of its sixth week or during its sixth weekend. It needs to maintain its current momentum for at least two more weeks to claim that spot. Reaching the 250 crore worldwide milestone will be the first major step, which should happen within the next few days. However, we have some anticipated releases like Sidharth Malhotra's Vvan - Force of the Forrest and Ayushmann Khurrana's Pati Patni Aur Woh 2 arriving on May 15, which will likely cause some screen shrinkage and sharing. If the film can manage this competition and maintain its steady pace, it has a very realistic chance of surpassing the Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 milestone and finishing its run as a highly successful entry in the horror-comedy genre.

Drishyam 3 Advance Booking: Mohanlal Starrer Nears 2 Crore After Strong Start

BY SUNIT JANGIR

Kochi, May 11 - Drishyam 3 is carrying extraordinary buzz ahead of its theatrical release, with excitement surrounding the return of Mohanlal's iconic character Georgekutty reaching fever pitch among audiences. The trailer, promotional material, and the franchise's massive popularity have created strong anticipation across Kerala as well as overseas markets. Reflecting the hype, the film's advance booking has opened to an impressive response, even though the release is still around 10 days away, and full-fledged bookings in several major centres are yet to commence. As of 9 AM on May 11, the film has collected around 1.75 crore gross in Kerala booking sales and is now inching closer to the 2 crore mark. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The booking has opened on a strong note with nearly 10 days still left for release, while the full-fledged booking is yet to begin. Overseas markets are also witnessing strong momentum, with worldwide pre-sales having crossed the 5 crore mark for the opening day, including fan shows. Directed by Jeethu Joseph, the film is scheduled to release on May 21, 2026. Drishyam 3 continues the story of Georgekutty and his family after the events of the previous two blockbuster instalments. The film also stars Meena, Ansiba Hassan, and Esther Anil in key roles. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Trade analysts believe the franchise value and Mohanlal's popularity are driving the strong pre-release buzz. It will be looking to score one of the biggest openings for a Malayalam film, and if word of mouth is positive, then the sky is the limit. The Drishyam series remains one of Indian cinema's most celebrated thriller franchises, with both earlier films becoming massive critical and commercial successes across languages.

Dhurandhar The Revenge has truly entered the history books, not just for its massive lifetime collection but for the sheer stamina it is showing in its eighth week. The movie is still pulling in audiences across India even after crossing the 1,143 crore mark. This past weekend proved that there is still plenty of gas left in the tank, as the film witnessed a significant jump in both footfalls and show counts. To understand the eighth weekend momentum, we should first look at the ticket sales activity. On BookMyShow alone, the film managed to sell 12.88K tickets on Friday, which grew to 19.48K on Saturday, and stayed strong with 15.98K on Sunday. This brings the three-day BookMyShow total to a solid 48.34K tickets. When we shift our focus to the major national chains, the growth is even more visible. The film started the weekend with about 2,460 tickets on Friday, but Saturday saw a massive spike as the numbers jumped to 7,190. By Sunday, the national chains recorded their best performance of the weekend with approximately 10,620 tickets. This cumulative total of over 20,270 tickets from the main chains alone shows that the urban audience is still very much interested in catching the film on the big screen. Friday began with a modest 0.42 crore, but the real story began on Saturday when the earnings more than doubled to 0.90 crore. Sunday took things a step further, crossing the 1 crore mark to finish the day at 1.10 crore. This brings the eighth-weekend total to 2.42 crore. For a film on its 53rd day, seeing a jump of over 100 percent from Friday to Saturday is quite remarkable. It suggests that word-of-mouth remains active, and family audiences are likely choosing this for their weekend outings over newer releases. The show management also gives us some interesting insights. Over the three days, the average show count was approximately 696 shows. However, looking at the daily breakdown, the exhibitors clearly reacted to the demand. On Friday, there were 645 shows available, but by Sunday, that number was pushed up to 733 shows. Similarly, the occupancy levels saw a dramatic spike. The average occupancy for the weekend stood at 26 percent, but the daily trend is what stands out. It moved from 16.4 percent on Friday to a peak of 32.7 percent on Sunday. This level of occupancy so late in the run indicates that the theaters that are still playing the movie are running nearly full during prime shows. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Looking at the language-wise breakdown for Sunday, the Hindi version continues to be the primary engine, contributing 1.06 crore from 692 shows with an impressive 33 percent occupancy. However, it is important to note the contributions from the other languages which helped push the day’s total higher. The Tamil version added 0.02 crore to the tally, maintaining a strong 31 percent occupancy across 19 shows. Both the Telugu and Kannada versions contributed 0.01 crore each, with the Telugu version showing 32 percent occupancy from 16 shows, while the Kannada version managed 10 percent occupancy from 6 shows. This widespread interest across various regions has been key in helping the film maintain its status as a true pan-India blockbuster as it nears the end of its historic theatrical run. Here is the breakdown of the total collections as the film stands after its 53-day theatrical run: Hindi Net: ₹1,074.71 Cr Telugu Net: ₹43.00 Cr Tamil Net: ₹19.76 Cr Kannada Net: ₹3.85 Cr Malayalam Net: ₹1.77 Cr Total India Net: ₹1,143.09 Cr Total India Gross: ₹1,368.10 Cr Worldwide Gross: ₹1,794.65 Cr
