Mumbai, May 6 - Jio Studios and Mumbai Film Company's historical action drama Raja Shivaji continues its strong run at the domestic box office, and has now crossed the 50 crores gross mark in just five days to become the fastest Marathi film of all-time to do so.

A Historic Milestone For Raja Shivaji

Backed by strong word-of-mouth and a solid opening driven by record-breaking advance bookings, Raja Shivaji has managed to sustain momentum at the box office. The film's grand scale, rooted storytelling, and powerful performances have struck a chord with audiences, particularly in Maharashtra.

Directed by and starring Riteish Deshmukh, Raja Shivaji grossed around 5.75 crores on its first Tuesday (5th day), which took its total gross collection to around 52.70 crores (44.40 crores net). With this, it has become only the fourth Marathi film of all-time to cross this milestone.

Crossing the 50 crore mark is a significant milestone for any Marathi film, given the relatively limited market compared to mainstream Hindi cinema. This achievement underlines the film's wide acceptance and the increasing appetite for high-quality regional content.

Marathi Cinema’s Box Office Giants

The success of Raja Shivaji places it among an elite list of Marathi blockbusters. Leading the charts is 2016's social romantic tragedy, Sairat, which is the biggest and the only Marathi film so far to score over 100 crores gross, with 110 crores. It was the film which unlocked the potential of Marathi cinema, but despite this, the industry is yet to see the next 100 crore grosser.

Baipan Bhari Deva came close to it, but eventually fell short of around 10 crores to achieve the milestone. Raja Shivaji, however, is on its way to becoming the second 100 crores and eventually the biggest Marathi grosser of all-time. With not much competition in sight, the movie is expected to reach this mark in the second week and will look to continue its strong run beyond that.
