Raja Shivaji Box Office: Riteish Deshmukh's Historical Epic Creates History With Record Opening

Mumbai, May 1 - Jio Studios and Mumbai Film Company's historical action drama Raja Shivaji has scripted history at the box office even before hitting the big screens. The film has scored the biggest opening ever for a Marathi film based on advance bookings alone, setting the stage for a massive opening.

Record Advance Booking Sets the Tone

Directed by and starring Riteish Deshmukh, Raja Shivaji closed its advance booking at 5.14 crore gross crores (without block seats), including a historic 4.25 crore gross (3.60 crore net) for the original Marathi version alone. This is a landmark figure for the industry and comfortably places the film at the top in terms of opening day collections among Marathi releases.

What makes this even more significant is that the film has already matched peak opening-day benchmarks through advance sales alone, with spot bookings and walk-ins expected to push the final Day 1 total even higher. With 3.60 crore net in advances, Raja Shivaji has gone past the long-standing opening-day figures of Sairat and Timepass 2, which scored around 3.60 crore net each.

Strong Maharashtra Performance Drives Numbers

The film's exceptional start is largely driven by its Marathi version, which has recorded strong occupancy across multiplexes and single screens alike in Maharashtra. On the other hand, the Hindi version has seen some momentum in advance sales with opening day figures already nearing 1 crore gross before release.

The scale, subject, and mounting of Raja Shivaji have clearly struck a chord with audiences. With this opening, the film has not only set a new record but also raised the commercial ceiling for Marathi cinema, proving that regional films can deliver blockbuster-level openings with the right mix of content and presentation.

Top 5 Box Office Weekend Grossers (May 22-24): Drishyam 3, Karuppu, and Deool Band 2 Dominate As Chand Mera Dil Underperforms

BY SACNILK

Mumbai, May 25 - The Indian box office was heavily tilted towards regional cinema during the May 22-24 weekend, with the strong debut Malayalam blockbuster Drishyam 3 and Marathi film Deool Band 2, as regional films comfortably outperformed Bollywood releases for the second weekend in a row. On top of that, Suriya's Karuppu continued to attract strong footfalls in the second weekend, also after the blockbuster opening frame. Drishyam 3 Continues Franchise Legacy With Blockbuster Debut (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The third instalment in director Jeethu Joseph's crime thriller franchise once again stayed true to the franchise legacy after an excellent opening weekend at the Indian box office. After the huge opening day upon its Thursday release, Drishyam 3 continued its phenomenal run across Kerala and other domestic markets over the weekend despite mixed word of mouth. Drishyam 3 continued to benefit from the franchise value as Drishyam 3 is easily the biggest film series to come out of Malayalam cinema. It scored the second biggest opening day, followed by the second biggest weekend for a Malayalam trend, and advances for Monday indicate that the film is up for a solid run, especially in Kerala. Karuppu Maintains Excellent Momentum (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Suriya's fantasy action drama Karuppu remained the top choice at the Tamil Nadu box office for the second weekend in a row, after scoring one of the biggest 2nd weekend for a Tamil film. Backed by excellent audience response, the movie continued its successful theatrical journey and moved closer to new worldwide milestones. During the weekend, RJ Balaji's directorial entered the 100 crores gross club in Tamil Nadu, making it the first instance for a Suriya-starrer, thus creating history for the actor. It also went past 200 crores gross at the global box office, which is also the first time for the Singam actor, as the film continues to reach new milestones. Deool Band 2 Emerges As A Surprise Winner (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The Marathi devotional drama Deool Band 2 sustained its superb trend at the box office with excellent occupancy in Maharashtra in the first weekend. Family audiences continued to support the film in large numbers, helping it dominate several centres despite competition from bigger releases. The film has now emerged as one of the breakout successes of the month. Chand Mera Dil Underperforms As Pati Patni Aur Woh Do Holds Steady Dharma Production's romantic drama, Chand Mera Dil, starring Lakshya and Ananya Panday, failed to generate the expected theatrical momentum. Despite a decent, visible promotional campaign, the film struggled against the dominance of regional cinema due to mixed word of mouth. Although there was some improvement over the weekend, the overall box office performance remained below expectations. Ayushmann Khurrana's romantic-comedy entertainer, Pati Patni Aur Woh Do managed to maintain a decent hold on low levels during the weekend, especially in multiplex-heavy urban centres. While the overall collections remained low, the film managed to escape the free fall due to limited competition despite mixed word of mouth. Raja Shivaji Box Office: Riteish Deshmukh's Historical Epic Downs Sairat To Become Highest-Grossing Marathi Film

BY SACNILK

Mumbai, May 22 - The decade-long record of director Nagraj Manjule's social romantic tragedy Sairat has finally been broken as Riteish Deshmukh's historical epic Raja Shivaji has become the highest-grossing Marathi film of all time, taking just 22 days to achieve the historic feat. Produced by Jio Studios and Mumbai Film Company, Raja Shivaji minted around 109.35 crores worldwide in three weeks (21 days), and it has surpassed the total gross of Sairat (110 crores) at the time of writing this piece to become the number 1 Marathi grosser ever. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Raja Shivaji, however, received support from its Hindi dubbed version, unlike Sairat, which was purely a Marathi-language release. Directed by and starring Riteish Deshmukh, the blockbuster has grossed approximately 29 crores from the Hindi version and over 76 crores gross from the original Marathi version in 21 days, while the overseas contribution stands at an estimated 4.20 crores so far. Released on May 1 on the occasion of Maharashtra Day, Raja Shivaji opened to record-breaking numbers with approximately 13.85 crores worldwide on its first day. The film remained exceptionally strong throughout the opening weekend, collecting around 41.65 crores worldwide in its first three days, setting a new benchmark for Marathi cinema. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The historical action drama, based on the life of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, showed a solid hold during the weekdays of its initial week. However, mixed word of mouth impacted the film's long-term theatrical run, with collections beginning to slow down after the second weekend. The 150 crores worldwide milestone, which looked possible after the huge opening weekend, now appears out of reach. Despite the slowdown, Raja Shivaji is still expected to finish its theatrical run close to the 125 crores mark, which would be a solid result for a regional-language title. The film has performed excellently in Maharashtra, where the subject and emotional connect with audiences helped it emerge as one of the biggest Marathi blockbusters ever produced.
