Chennai, October 27 - Tamil superstar Rajinikanth made a roaring comeback this year with director Nelson Dilipkumar's action drama Jailer. Interestingly, the last film of both the actor and director, "Annaatthe" and "Beast", respectively, didn't do well at the box office, but still, they joined hands for the first time and delivered a mega blockbuster.

Produced by Sun Pictures, "Jailer" was released on August 10 during the Independence Day weekend of 2023. The movie took a fantastic opening of approximately 96.50 crores gross worldwide, including 56.50 crores domestically to set the stage for a blockbuster ride, of course, after getting super positive reception from the moviegoers.



"Jailer", after taking such a monstrous opening, went on to score a huge approximately 434 crores worldwide gross collection, including 277 crores domestically in the extended 8-day week, which is currently the third biggest first week total of all time for a Tamil title.

The first-week collection made the film one of the biggest Tamil blockbusters of all time before it crossed 500 crores worldwide and became the second Tamil movie to top this figure after Rajinikanth's own hit "2.0". "Jailer" was made on a budget of over 200 crores, and it justified the huge investment by emerging as one of the biggest blockbusters ever.
