Mega Blockbuster 'Jailer' Final Worldwide Box Office Collection and Records

Chennai, October 27 - Tamil superstar Rajinikanth made a roaring comeback in 2023 with director Nelson Dilipkumar's action drama Jailer. What made this pairing intriguing was that both their previous films, Rajinikanth's Annaatthe and Nelson's Beast, had underperformed at the box office. Yet, when they joined forces for the first time, the result was nothing short of a mega blockbuster.

Produced by Sun Pictures, Jailer hit cinemas on August 10, 2023, during the long Independence Day weekend. The film opened to a phenomenal 96.50 crore gross worldwide on its first day, including 56.50 crore from India, instantly setting the tone for a record-breaking run. Positive word-of-mouth from audiences only accelerated its momentum.



After taking such a monstrous opening, Jailer went on to score a huge 434 crores worldwide gross collection, including 277 crores domestically, in the extended 8-day week, which was the third biggest first week total of all time for a Tamil title at that time.

The milestones didn't stop there. Soon, Jailer crossed the 500 crore worldwide mark, becoming only the second Tamil movie to do so after Rajinikanth's own sci-fi spectacle 2.0. Made on a budget of over 200 crore, Jailer justified the investment, cementing its place among the biggest Tamil blockbusters of all time.
