Box Office: Vijay Sethupathi's 'Maharaja' Scored A Very Good First Week In China
Chennai, December 6 - Vijay Sethupathi's action thriller Maharaja has completed its first week at the China box office with a superb collection of close to 41 crores gross, including premieres. It has already become the highest-grossing Tamil movie on the mainland.
After grossing approximately 26.50 crores in the opening weekend (including premiers), Maharaja showed a stronghold on Monday by scoring 3 crore gross. The movie has shown an upward trend since Monday as the collection for the rest of the week was higher than the previous day (from Tuesday to Thursday).
The Nithilan Swaminathan's directorial minted $4.82 million (40.80 crores gross) in the full first week which is a fantastic total. Maharaja is the highest-grossing Indian movie in China since Thugs Of Hindostan in November 2018. Overall, the Tamil blockbuster is the 13 biggest Indian grosser there.
Maharaja is expected to have a strong second weekend as word of mouth is super positive. The film has an 8.6 rating on the Chinese movie review site Douban and is regarded as "one of the highest-rated Indian films in recent years".
After the first week of collection in China, Maharaja's worldwide total is nearing 150 crores gross which it will achieve by the second weekend. As said, it is one of the biggest Tamil blockbusters of the year and easily the biggest success for Vijay Sehtupathi.
