Box Office: 'Dragon' Tops 100 Crore Gross Domestically; Beats 'Vidaamuyarchi' To Become The Biggest Tamil Grosser of 2025

Chennai, March 9 - Actor Pradeep Ranganathan's coming-of-age comedy-drama Dragon has become the highest-grossing Tamil movie of 2025 at the domestic box office and is to become globally at the end of the third Sunday by beating Ajith Kumar's Vidaamuyarchi. ## Directed by Ashwath Marimuthu, Dragon has topped 100 crores gross in India on its 16th day (3rd Saturday) and become the first Tamil title of the year to do so. It has surpassed the domestic gross total of Vidaamuyarchi (96 crores gross) to be the number 1 Tamil title of the year.## The domestic collection of 101.50+ crores gross of Dragon includes 68.50 crores gross in Tamil Nadu which is the second highest of the year after Vidaamuyarchi (78 crores gross). Additionally, Dragon has had a superb run in Telugu states so far, grossing approximately 19 crores, followed by around 10 crores in Karnataka, and 4+ crores gross in the rest of the domestic market.## Worldwide, Dragon has grossed approximately 132 crores, including around 30.50 crores at the overseas box office. The film will surpass Vidaamuyarchi's total worldwide collection of 136 crores at the end of the 17thd day to become the biggest Tamil grosser of the year, so far.## Pradeep Ranganathan - A Star in the Making?## The success of Dragon might be the birth of a star in the making, Pradeep Ranganathan. He started his career as a YouTuber, and when his time came, he rose to the occasion on the big stage called cinema. Apart from being an actor, Pradeep is also a writer and director, and he made his directorial debut with Comali (2019) which was a blockbuster.## Pradeep made his acting debut with Comali, but as a lead hero, he debuted with the 2022 romantic comedy, Love Today which emerged as a huge success with 83+ crores gross collection worldwide. Los Angeles, March 9 - James Cameron's sci-fi epic Avatar: The Way of Water is among the longest films ever, with a theatrical runtime of 3 hours and 12 minutes. Well, the maverick filmmaker seems to be in no mood to make shorter films anymore, as his next is even longer. The third Avatar instalment - Avatar: Fire And Ash is set to be longer than The Way of Water, confirmed by the director himself. While the exact runtime is not revealed yet, Cameron revealed in an interview with Empire magazine that the next film will be a bit longer. The Avatar films are anyway longer than most of the Hollywood titles, as the first film of the franchise, released in 2009, was 2 hours and 58 minutes long and is the highest-grossing film in the history of the worldwide box office, while The Way of Water holds the record for the third biggest grosser ever. One can't expect less when it comes to Avatar movies, and unsurprisingly, the expectations are high from Fire And Ash, which debuts in cinemas worldwide later this year in December. Cameron has already hyped the movie by calling it better than the first two films, and it will be much higher in action. Mumbai, March 8 - Maddock Films' historical action drama Chhaava, starring Vicky Kaushal in the title role has entered the 500 crores net club at the Hindi box office, becoming the first film of 2025 and 8th of all time to do so. ## Directed by Laxman Utekar, Chhaava is running riot and has scored in double-digit collection on its 4th Saturday (23rd day) and with this, it topped 500 crores net. It is the fourth-fastest movie ever after Stree 2 (22 days), Jawan (18 days) and Pushpa 2 (11 days) to reach the milestone in Hindi.## Chhaava was released in the Telugu version on March 7, 3 weeks after the original release and in the first 2 days, the movie scored fantastic approximately 5.50+ crores net collection. The India net collection of the movie is around 508 crores, including 502+ crores in Hindi in 23 days. ## The movie has had a smooth run at the box office with no real competition. Going ahead, it will have the Holi festive advantage and despite the release of John Abraham's The Diplomat, it is expected to remain a strong force and will look to go past 550 crores net. ## Meanwhile, Chhaava is nearing 700 crores gross at the global box office. Mumbai, March 8 – Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan is gearing up for his next big cinematic venture, an action-packed thriller titled King. After largely going unnoticed in the first phase, the movie turned the tide in its repeat run at the box office, raising the anticipation of its sequel. ## Produced and frontend by Sohum Shah, Tumbbad 2 has already been announced. According to the latest reports, a few production studios are showing interest in it and are willing to provide the budget the makers may not have imagined. ## It is said that Shah has secured a 100-crore budget from a leading studio to make the sequel of this cult classic. Interestingly, Tumbbad, which was originally released in 2018, struggled to get the finances and was made on a low budget but things are a lot different this time around. ## The story of Tumbbad 2 is said to have locked and the pre-production has already started. Mumbai, March 7 - There is no stopping the Chinese mega-blockbuster Ne Zha 2 which continues shattering box office records. After becoming the highest-grossing animated movie of all time, it recently entered the $2 billion club at the worldwide box office becoming the first Chinese and animated movie to do so. ## Ne Zha 2, which was released on January 29 this year, has sold over 300 million (30 crores) tickets at the Chinese box office in 36 days which makes it the first film of the modern era to do so in a single market. Overall, the film has scored $302+ million globally so far.## The previous highest admissions in theatres for a movie of the modern era in China was Wolf Warrior 2 with 160+ million. There is no specific record available but according to Wikipedia, the Chinese musical fantasy romance Legend of the White Snake (1980) is the number 1 film worldwide in terms of tickets sold with 700+ million. ## Directed by Jiaozi, Ne Zha 2 is the sequel to the 2019 blockbuster which itself is the 5th highest-grossing movie in China. The film is loosely based on Chinese mythology stories and the 16th-century Chinese novel Investiture of the Gods. Mumbai, March 6 - Superstar Salman Khan's action drama Sikandar is one of the most-anticipated Bollywood movies. It is the first movie for the actor since YRF's Tiger 3 in November 2023, and there is genuine anticipation for the film which is directed by A. R. Murugadoss. ## The buzz around Sikandar is on the rise with each passing day and the same can be understood with the non-theatrical rights which has been locked. According to the reports, producer Sajid Nadiadwala has locked the film's non-theatrical rights for a very good sum of around 165 crores, which includes digital, satellite and music rights.## It is said that Netflix has secured the post-theatrical streaming rights of Sikandar on a base price of 85 crores and it can go higher up to 100 crores based on the film's box office performance. Zee Network has grabbed satellite rights for 50 crores while music rights are with Zee Music Company for 30 crores.## The budget of the movie is reportedly around 180 crores, excluding the remuneration of Salman Khan. Los Angeles, March 5 - Marvel Studios' highly-awaited Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars are fast approaching their releases. Doomsday will be the first to release in 2026, followed by Secret Wars in 2027, and the Russo Brothers, who are set to direct both, have revealed the estimated runtime of both films. ## Speaking to Collider's Steve Weintraub for their upcoming film, The Electric State, the director duo teased the runtime of their high-profile Marvel blockbusters. Both films will be longer than most of the Marvel movies. The longest-running film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Avengers: Endgame (182 minutes), was directed by Russos and it was their last MCU film.## Well, the upcoming Avengers movies may not necessarily be the longest films in the MCU but they are surely going to be the closest to the longest film as according to the directors, the first one (Doomsday) is two and a half, and the second one (Secret Wars) is three hours long.## Doomsday, which is scheduled to hit the big screen on May 1, 2026, will start filming this summer. As per Russos, it will be the most radical Marvel movie to date and the audience will be shocked to see it. It will revolve around Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom and will also involve the new Fantastic Four — Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon-Moss Bachrach along with other MCU stars.## The follow-up to Doomsday will be Secret Wars which begins filming next year and be released on May 7, 2027. The comeback of Russos in the MCU as director along with Downey Jr. in a different role has already raised the hype for both movies. Mumbai, March 5 - The rumours around director Atlee's big-budgeted film with superstar Salman Khan refuse to die except for the fact that it has been shelved, as per industry sources. The mega 2-hero film was supposed to set the box office on fire but not anymore. ## There have been many rumours regarding the shelving of Atlee's film with Salman. Since the movie was supposed to be a 2-hero epic, superstar Rajinikanth was reportedly in talks to come on board to join Salman. The temptation was also made to bring Kamal Haasan on board but nothing made to the cut.## Amid the reports that the film got shelved due to budget issues, the latest report by Pinkvilla revealed that it has been put on the back burner due to the unavailability of Rajinikanth because of the date issues. Kamal Haasan too wasn't sure about playing the second lead role, which, as per the report, was the role of the father of Salman's character.## Rajinikanth is currently shooting for Lokesh Kanagaraj's Coolie and he will next start Nelson's Jailer 2 soon, so was difficult to secure his dates for A6 in the immediate future. Since the project was supposed to have cost over 600 crores, the movie needed a big South superstar to justify this huge cost but things didn't fall in place.## Pinkvilla has denied the rumours of the project getting shelved due to budget. It is said that Salman Khan and Atlee were confident of getting either Rajini or Kamal Haasan to join the film which was also a demand of Sun Pictures and once that didn't happen, the duo decided to not proceed with the film for now and they might join hands in future for a different script. ## Meanwhile, A6 will now be made with superstar Allu Arjun who is fresh from the all-time blockbuster Pushpa 2 - The Rule.
