A Sequel To 'Desi Boyz' And A Remake of 'Omkara' Is In The Development

Mumbai, December 22 - Bollywood film producer Anand Pandit joins hands with Eros International and Parag Sanghvi to produce the sequel to Desi Boyz and the remake of Omkara. Interestingly, both the original films underperformed but gained viewership on television and have a cult following for some reasons.## Sharing the news, Anand Pandit said in a statement, "Yes, it is true that I have collaborated with Eros International & Parag Sanghvi to make a sequel and a re-make of two iconic films. Each of these two films Omkara and Desi Boyz were trailblazers in their respective eras for their storytelling, star cast, and music. They have a cult following for different reasons and it seemed like the perfect time to revisit these hits and take their stories forward for a new generation of viewers". ## The star cast of both movies is yet to be announced. Both, "Desi Boyz 2" and "Omkara" remake are currently in the scripting stage and are likely to roll out by the end of next year. ## "We are excited to collaborate with Anand Bhai to revive the magic of these films that have remained indelible in our memories. We have often wondered what happened to our favorite cinematic characters and if their journey took them in surprising directions. We will work together to ensure that the essence of these classics remains untouched even as we infuse new energy and fresh vibrance in them", said Sunil Lulla, Chairman of Eros Motion Pictures.## Directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, "Omkara" is adapted from William Shakespeare's classic drama Othello and it starred Ajay Devgn, Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Vivek Oberoi, Konkona Sen Sharma, and Bipasha Basu. The movie was released in 2006 and made over 42 crores at the global box office.## On the other hand, "Desi Boyz" is a romantic comedy film, starring Akshay Kumar, John Abraham, Deepika Padukone, and Chitrangada Singh in lead roles. Mumbai, December 20 - Book My Show, the leading ticketing platform in India, has unveiled the list of the top ten movies with the highest number of tickets sold on its platform in 2022. This year, the Indian film industry witnessed some of the biggest all-time blockbusters which scored huge collections at the box office. ## BMS didn't reveal the number of tickets sold but confirmed that Kannada biggie KGF: Chapter 2 led its ticket counts in 2022. The Yash-starrer is the highest-grossing Indian film of the year with over 1200 crores at the global box office. The movie scored an all-time record of selling 2.1 million tickets in a single day on BMS. ## SS Rajamouli's path-breaking period action drama film RRR is the second most-watched Indian movie this year, and also sold the second-highest number of tickets on BMS. The Jr. NTR and Ram Charan-fronted has so far grossed over 1140 crores at the worldwide box office and is the second highest-grossing Indian movie of the year. ## Hombale Films has been the most profitable production company of 2022 and along with "KGF 2", the studio's Kantara stunned everyone with its phenomenal box office run globally. Made on a budget of approx. 16 crores, the Rishab Shetty-starrer grossed approx. 410 crores worldwide and is at number 3 on BMS in the ticket sold. ## Vivek Agnihotri's drama The Kashmir Files, which shocked the nation by showing one of the darkest chapters of Indian history, scored the 4th highest number of tickets sold on BMS. The movie grossed over 335 crores worldwide against a budget of around 20 crores and is currently the second highest-grossing Bollywood movie of 2022. ## Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan Part - 1, which grossed approx. 490 crores worldwide, is at number 5 on BMS. Director Ayan Mukerji's ambitious Brahmastra Part One: Shiva sold the 6th highest number of tickets and grossed approx. 431 crores globally. Kamal Haasan's biggest box office blockbuster Vikram sold the 7th highest number of tickets on BMS and grossed approx. 414 crores worldwide. ## Two of the biggest blockbusters, Kartik Aaryan's Bhool Bhuliayaa 2 (₹ 266 Cr) and Ajay Devgn's currently in theaters Drishyam 2 (₹ 315 Cr***) are currently at number 8 and 9, respectively, on BMS. Mumbai, December 20 - Bollywood filmmaker Rohit Shetty gears up for his long-awaited comedy film Cirkus, starring Ranveer Singh, slated to hit screens on December 23 during the Christmas weekend. The trailer and songs have received positive reviews from audiences and the makers are confident regarding the success of the movie. ## Rohit Shetty has been the epitome of box office hits over the years as he hasn't given a single flop in the past 10-12 years. As far as Shetty is concerned, he is confident that "Cirkus" will continue his winning run, but the response to the movie in advance booking has been slow, which isn't normal for his films. ## The advance booking of "Cirkus" was opened a couple of days but it hasn't picked up the way the makers had thought. Mumbai, December 19 - Filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani's directorial debut Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. has completed 19 years since its release in 2003. Considered one of the greatest films of all time, the comedy-drama was headlined by Sanjay Dutt with Arshad Warsi playing the supporting role. ## Sanjay Dutt played the role of a lifetime as Murliprasad Sharma aka Munna Bhai, however, he was not the first choice for the role. During a recent interview, director Hirani revealed that it was Anil Kapoor who was his first choice before it was offered to Shah Rukh Khan, and then finally, Sanjay Dutt was picked for it. ## Hirani revealed that it was producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra who suggested him to approach Shah Rukh Khan to play the role of Murli Prasad Sharma. The filmmaker said that being a newcomer, he was not sure whether SRK would do a film with him as King Khan was already an established star in the industry. ## The filmmaker further said that he approached SRK and wished to narrate the story, but since the actor was busy with "Devdas", he asked him to leave the script behind. When SRK read the script he liked it and called Hirani the next day to meet him.## Shah Rukh Khan agreed to do the movie but then a problem arose. Rajkumar Hirani stated, "This was a time when he (SRK) had to fly to London for his neck surgery. Meanwhile, he already had many films lined up like Chalte Chalte (2003), Main Hoon Na (2004), Veer-Zaara (2004), etc, and informed me that he'll finish these pending films and only then he can begin work on my film". The producer didn't want to wait for 2-3 years as the songs were ready and other prep work was also completed so they move on from him and roped Sanjay Dutt for the role. ## Meanwhile, Shah Rukh Khan and Rajkumar Hirani finally got a chance to work together for the first time in the upcoming comedy-drama film "Dunki". The movie has now reached 218.79 crores in net in 30 days and becomes the 22nd highest-domestic grosser in Hindi. ## Produced by Panorama Studios in association with Viacom18 Studios and T-Series, "Drishyam 2" has become Ajay Devgn's second-biggest grosser of all time at the worldwide box office. Its sequel, "Welcome Back", was released in 2015 and also worked in cinemas though it couldn't recreate the magic of its predecessor.## Over the past few years, the talks regarding "Welcome 3" has been on the rise, and producer Nadiadwala himself confirmed the development now, in a recent interview with Bollywood Hungama, the filmmaker revealed that it will be made on a huge scale. ## Firoz Nadiadwala revealed that the title of the movie would most likely be "Welcome To The Jungle". He said that the movie will be based on a military action backdrop and will retain the humor, wit, and entertainment that is associated with this franchise. ## "We'll make use of the 'huey' helicopters and for the first time in an Indian film, aircraft carriers will be used in action scenes. It’ll be made on a scale that has never been seen before in Indian cinema in terms of production value, grandeur, etc", said the filmmaker.## It is not yet confirmed whether Akshay Kumar or other casts will reprise their roles in "Welcome 3" but Nadiadwala confirmed that top stars will feature in the movie.
