Black Widow's Date-And-Date Release Cost Disney A Whopping Sum Of $600M!

Los Angeles, January 5 - Hollywood film studios experimented with day-and-date releases in theaters and on streamers in 2021, mainly because of the covid-19 pandemic. Warner Bros. sent its entire slate of 2021 in theaters and on HBO Max simultaneously, a decision that was heavily criticized by some of the top Hollywood filmmakers. ## Walt Disney Co. too did the same with Marvel Studios. tentpole movie, "Black Widow" starring Scarlett Johansson. Upon its release in July 2021, the superhero movie made $80 million domestically in the opening weekend + $20 million via Disney+ as announced by the streamer. However, after the opening weekend, the movie fell flat at the box office, and Disney also stopped giving its streaming numbers. ## After the low box office performance of the film, exhibitors blamed Disney Co. for its decision of making the film available in theaters and on a streamer simultaneously. They were right as "Black Widow" was one of the most pirated Hollywood titles of 2021, as revealed earlier. This caused heavy damage for the exhibitors who had high hopes for this Marvel movie. ## However, what was earlier revealed wasn't the full picture. According to the latest report by Deadline, "Black Widow" was the most pirated film of 2021. The report suggests that the day-and-date release of the film invited over 20 million pirated downloads, causing Disney to lose an estimated $600 million in streaming revenue. ## While the loss caused by piracy was massive, Scarlett Johansson too had sued Walt Disney Company over a breach in the contract that originally guaranteed an exclusive theatrical release. At the time, it was estimated that the decision to release via streaming cost Johnasson $50 million. ## Stay tuned...

Box Office 2021: Hollywood Dominated The Worldwide Box Office During The Second Pandemic Year

Mumbai, January 4 - The Hollywood film industry once again came to the rescue as far as the worldwide box office is concerned. The industry of superheroes shouldered the responsibility to keep the show running during the entire covid-19 pandemic, along with China.## After no so the great year of 2020, Hollywood released tentpole titles in the following year and had success with most of them. Quite fittingly, the year 2021 ended with the biggest grosser of the pandemic era, "Spider-Man: No Way Home", which was also the first and only film of 2020 and 2021 to cross $1 billion at the worldwide box office. ## Tom Holland's "Spider-Man: No Way Home" wasn't the only Hollywood title that ruled the worldwide box office. Among the top 5 biggest grosser of 2021 globally, 3 Hollywood films found themselves on the list. Apart from "No Way Home", the other two titles were "James Bond - No Time To Die", and "Fast & Furious 9". ## "No Way Home", which was released on December 15 in some of the overseas markets, has so far grossed $1.37 billion, including $613M domestically (North America), and $759M overseas. James Bond "No Time To Die", which was the 4th biggest film of 2021, had grossed $774 million worldwide. More than domestic, where it grossed $160.7M, "No Time To Die", performed strongly outside North America with $613.2 million.## "Fast & Furious 9" was the fifth biggest global grosser of 2021. It was the first Hollywood film to break $500 million worldwide in 2021. Released in the month of June, "F9" earned $173 million domestically while overseas, it grossed $553.2 million, for a total worldwide gross of $726.2 million. ## Meanwhile, the number 2 and 3 spots of the biggest box office grosser were taken by China's films. The war epic film "The Battle at Lake Changjin" grossed $904 million and was the biggest film until "Spider-Man: No Way Home" overtook it. Chinese comedy film "Hi, Mom" was the 3rd biggest with $822 million at the global box office. ## Stay tuned...

Sony Pictures Pushed Jared Leto's 'Morbius' Release Date For 7th Time

Mumbai, January 4 - Jared Leto's vampire film "Morbius" is on the movie again after being delayed by 3 months by Sony Pictures. Previously slated for January 28, the Marvel movie will now debut in theaters on April 1st, 2022, in IMAX and premium large formats. ## This is 7th time Sony has pushed the "Morbius" release date since July 2020. The movie was originally slated for 10 July 2020, before being pushed back to 31st July over covid-19 fear. It was later announced for March 19, 2021, however, with covid cases on the rise again, it was decided for October 8, 2021, release.## While October 2021 was finally looking good for "Morbius", it had to make way for Sony's "Venom 2", which grabbed the October slot, and "Morbius" was pushed back to January 21 and then January 28, 2022. This time, things were looking all set for the superhero film, but dynamics have changed due to the Omicron variant of covid, which is said to be more infectious than the Delta. ## However, according to Deadline, the one factor motivating the push of "Morbius" was Sony's huge (continuing) success with Spider-Man: No Way Home, which established itself as the highest-grossing film of 2021 upon its December 17 debut. The Tom Holland-fronted is currently going strong at the box office and grossed $1.37 billion so far. It is said that Sony wants to give "No Way Home" a long run at the box office at the cost of postponement of "Morbius". ## In Morbius, Leto portrays the enigmatic antihero Michael Morbius. Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. While at first, it seems to be a radical success, the darkness inside him is unleashed. Will good override evil—or will Morbius succumb to his mysterious new urges?## Directed by Daniel Espinosa, the movie also stars Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, Jared Harris, Al Madrigal, and Tyrese Gibson. ## Stay tuned...

Spider-Man: No Way Home Becomes 3rd Hollywood Film To Cross Rs. 200 Crores Net In India

Mumbai, January 3 - Tom Holland's "Spider-Man: No Way Home" becomes only the 3rd Hollywood film to reach Rs. 200 crores (Rs. 202.34 cr) net in India, after "Avengers: Endgame" (Rs.373.05 cr), and "Avengers: Infinity War" (Rs. 228.50 cr). Interestingly, all three films belong to Marvel, which is the most loved movie brand in India. ## The finale of Holland's Home Coming trilogy, "No Way Home" has given a new lease of life to India's exhibition sector. It is only the second title of 2021 to reach Rs. 200 crores net mark, after Telugu blockbuster "Pushpa - The Rise", which was released a day after "No Way Home" on December 17, and currently stands at Rs. 207 crores India net. ## "No Way Home", meanwhile, opened to the third biggest box office numbers in India for a 2021's title. It netted Rs. 32.67 crores on the first day, and went on to register Rs. 108.27 crores (Rs. 138.63 cr. gross) over the extended 4-day opening weekend, followed by Rs. 148.07 crores net (Rs. 188.04 crores gross) for a full first week. ## From the second weekend onwards, "No Way Home" faced stiff competition from sports biopic, "83", especially in the multiplexes. However, despite the competition, the superhero movie did very well to stay afloat and generate Rs. 41.60 crores net in the second week. It continued to invite footfalls over the new year's weekend and score Rs. 12.67 crores in the 3rd weekend, for a total India net to Rs. 202.34 crores, and Rs. 256.97 crores gross for all languages (English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu). ## "Spider-Man: No Way Home" is likely to extend its strong run at the Indian box office since there is no big release until Ajith Kumar's blockbuster "Valimai" on Jan. 13. It will, however, be interesting to see whether it could reach Rs. 300 crores gross at the Indian box office, knowing the fact that many Indian states, especially in the North, are imposing new restrictions on theaters due to the rising covid-19 cases in the country. ## Stay tuned...

Tom Holland Set To Fetch Massive Pay Day After Blockbuster Success of 'Spider-Man: No Way Home'

Los Angeles, January 2 - Tom Holland, the 25-year old British actor, is in line to become the next big thing in the Hollywood film industry. The young talented actor has just delivered the biggest blockbuster of the covid-19 pandemic era in the form of "Spider-Man: No Way Home", which becomes the first film since December 2019 to gross $1 billion at worldwide box office. ## The instant box office blockbuster has had many factors that worked very well in favor of it, but it was Holland's peppy, quippy and youthful take on the role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man that gives the comic-book epic its zip and heart. The success of "No Way Home" could lead Holland into the elite league of Hollywood stars. ## According to Variety, Holland's brand and bankability have seen an exponential rise, thanks to his iconic superhero role, which he first played in "Captain America: Civil War" (2015). It is said that prior to his first Marvel appearance, Holland made less than $1 million per role in movies. Now, he could be making $2 million to $5 million for independent movies. ## The fact that "No Way Home" is proved to be the biggest hit for Holland, and according to a Variety report, the actor is set to hike his remuneration to feature in a leading role in traditional studio's commercial film from here on. The report suggests Holland's asking price should leap into the low eight-figures while at streamers, the Marvel star's paycheck could swing to $20 million or more. ## Tom Holland, however, has to deliver outside Marvel movies to continue to fetch higher paycheck in the future. While there is no doubt he perfectly lived up to expectations as Spider-Man at the box office, a huge test for his big screen prowess will be Sony's upcoming big-budget action adventure film "Uncharted", in which Holland is playing the young fortune hunter Nathan Drake. It is slated to release in February 2022. ## Stay tuned...

Most Anticipated Superhero Movies Coming In 2022

Mumbai, December 26 - Superhero films are widely popular among movie lovers, and the reason behind their popularity isn't surprising knowing how they often depict ideas about magic and the fantasy world. The year 2021 was the year of superhero movies that saved the world of entertainment, which went through the worst of the years in 2020 because of the covid-19 pandemic. ## It was the superhero movies that kept the ball rolling and entertainment alive throughout the year 2021, which was all about kickstarting the engine before the full flight. On top of that, the entertainment in 2021 couldn't have asked for a better ending than a superhero movie in the form of "Spider-Man: No Way Home" crossing a billion mark at the global box office, becoming the first to do so since December 2019. ## There is so much to look forward to for fans of superhero movies next year, which will see some of the most anticipated films one has asked for. Being the major studio behind superhero films, Marvel delivered 5 blockbuster titles in 2021, and the onus will again be on it along with DC to keep the fans on the edge of their seats. ## Let's take a look at 5 most anticipated superhero movies releasing in the year 2022 (theatrical) -## The Flash - The fans across the world are loving "Spider-Man: No Way Home" because it brings the multiverse concept into the game, in which things of the past start colliding in the present timeline. In "The Flash", Barry Allen (Ezra Miller) travels back in time to prevent his mother's murder, which brings unintended consequences.## While this DC movie might not match the legacy of Marvel/Sony's "No Way Home", it could come close to it. The teaser trailer has already revealed that not only will there be three different versions of the Flash, but Michael Keaton's Batman will return too along with Ben Affleck's Batman. The Warner Bros. Picture will be hitting theaters on November 4, 2022. ## Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness - If "Spider-Man: No Way Home" was just a trailer of how the multiverse works, the Doctor Strange sequel will be the full picture. The first teaser/trailer of the film was recently released and it gave an idea about how the film is going to be. The fans around are particularly very excited for "The Multiverse Of Madness". ## "Doctor Strange 2" is arguably the most anticipated MCU film coming in 2022. Benedict Cumberbatch will return to reprise his role as Doctor Strange along with Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff / Scarlet Witch. Directed by Sam Raimi, the film is scheduled to hit screens on May 6, 2022, after being delayed by 2 months over production changes. ## The Batman - Who can forget director Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight" trilogy featuring Christian Bale as Batman. Despite the "Batman" character featuring in multiple DC films from 2016 to 2021, Nolan's "The Dark Knight Rises" (2012) was surprisingly the last solo Batman film. "The Batman" is a reboot of the Batman film franchise, and not only that, it's the first time that a movie will truly depict the character doing detective work and earning his moniker of the World's Greatest Detective.## The movie features Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman, alongside Zoƫ Kravitz as Catwoman while Paul Dano plays Riddler and Colin Farrell returns as Penguin. Directed by Matt Reeves, the movie opens on March 4, 2022. Interestingly, "The Batman" is one of the lowest budgeted DC films with a budget of just $100 million. ## Black Adam - Black Adam seems to be a film to watch out for in 2022. It is going to be an important movie in the DC Extended Universe, as it'll introduce the titular anti-hero into the universe, and he just happens to be Shazam's nemesis. Headed by Dwayne Johnson for the first time as a superhero, "Black Adam" is fascinating to fans at the moment with first looks and teaser. It will debut in theaters on July 29, 2022. ## Thor: Love And Thunder - The MCU film is going to be special as it marks the comeback of many past Thor characters after missing out in "Thor: Ragnarok". Chris Hemsworth returns as the former king of Asgard/Thor while the movie also introduces some fascinating new characters. Christian Bale has switched teams from DC and will be playing the primary antagonist, Gorr The God Butcher.## Director Taika Waititi said the film would adapt elements from Jason Aaron's run on The Mighty Thor comic book, which sees Natalie Portman's character Jane Foster take on the mantle and powers of Thor whilst suffering from cancer. Waititi later described "Thor: Love And Thunder" as a romance film. It will debut on July 8, 2022. ## Black Panther: Wakanda Forever - A sequel to the highest-grossing solo superhero movie of all time, "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" went through major changes after the original Black Panther, actor Chadwick Boseman died last year. There are rumors that King T'Challa won't be recast in the honor of Boseman. The movie, however, promises to be as big as the original 2018 movie. Directed by Ryan Coogler, the movie opens on November 11, 2022. ## Stay tuned...
