'Ponniyin Selvan - Part 2' Crosses 100 Crores Gross At The Tamil Nadu Box Office

Chennai, May 7 - Mani Ratnam's historical action drama film Ponniyin Selvan - Part 2 is continuing with its strong performance at the domestic as well as overseas box office. ## The second and final part of "Ponniyin Selvan" is nearing 300 crores, currently stands at around 282 crores in 9 days, at the worldwide box office, and is likely to reach there by today or tomorrow. The first part, which was released in September last year, grossed close to 500 crores worldwide and the second part is also turning out to be a big money spinner. ## Meanwhile, "PS-2" has crossed 100 crores gross collection in Tamil Nadu, becoming the 3rd film of the year to do so after Thalapathy Vijay's "Varisu" and Ajith Kumar's "Thunivu". Mani Ratnam's directorial reached the 100 crores mark on its 9th day and currently stands at a little over 102 crores. ## "PS-1" had taken just 5 days to breach the 100 crores gross mark and went on to gross over 200 crores in Tamil Nadu. It is the only film in the history of Indian cinema to breach the double-century mark in the state. It looks unlikely for "PS-2" to reach even near to the first film but even the 150 crores mark would be satisfactory. ## Produced by Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions, "PS-2" stars an ensemble cast including Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha, R. Sarathkumar, Jayaram, Prabhu, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Vikram Prabhu, Prakash Raj, Rahman, and R. Parthiban.## Stay tuned...

Chennai, May 1 - Mani Ratnam's period action drama film Ponniyin Selvan - Part 2 is having another excellent day at the domestic box office with an estimated 25+ crores gross collection in all versions on the card. ## In the 3-day opening weekend, "PS-2" grossed a solid around 173 crores worldwide, including approx. 95 crores domestically. The 4-day total of "PS-2" should be around 210 crores (120 crores domestic+90 crores overseas) which was the first three days of collection of "PS-1". ## Despite taking one extra day than its predecessor, "PS-2" is very much on track to breach 400 crores worldwide gross, and with better reviews than "PS-1", it also has a chance to get near to the first part which grossed around 490 crores in its lifetime run. ## "PS-2" wasn't a hugely hyped second part of a movie unlike "Baahubali 2", "KGF 2", and the upcoming "Pushpa 2". The movie has the only support of being the second part of a highly successful first part but it is purely performing on its own merit. ## Stay tuned...

The first part is already one of the highest-grossing Tamil movies of all time and now, "PS-2" has started very well. ## There wasn't a massive online buzz for Ponniyin Selvan - Part 2, but thanks to the overwhelming response to "PS-1" last year, the awareness among the general audience was there and this was clearly visible on the opening day of the release. ## As per the early estimates, "PS-2" has grossed around 32+ crores in all versions, including 18+ crores in the home state, Tamil Nadu. The first part opened at around 40 crores, including approx. 25 crores in Tamil Nadu. ## The Telugu version too performed decently as early estimates suggest 3-4 crores gross (PS-1 opened at around 5.50 crores) in the Telugu states, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. 'Ponniyin Selvan 2' and 'Agent' Open To Contrasting Responses

Chennai, April 28 - Maverick filmmaker Mani Ratnam's much-awaited period action drama film Ponniyin Selvan - Part 2 has been released in theaters today, and as expected, the movie opened to super positive responses from critics and audiences alike. ## The film, starring an ensemble cast including Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Rai, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi, and Sobhita Dhulipala, among others in key roles, had early morning shows due to the huge curiosity among the fans and the early responses indicated that the movie has exceeded the expectations. ## Despite being called slow-paced, the critics and audiences are hailing the intense drama and superlative performances of the lead cast. Mani Ratnam has once again done very well with his excellent direction and given enough scope to each and every key character to show their skills. AR Rahman's music seems to be the cherry on the cake. ## Overall, "PS-II" has been able to deliver what the makers had promised, and just like "PS-I", it should also do well at the box office. ## Quite contrasting to "PS-2", the long-awaited Telugu movie Agent starring Akhil Akkineni and Mammootty opened to forgettable responses from critics who are calling it one of the poorest films of the actors and director Surender Reddy. The audience response is also not encouraging which has made it tough for the movie to survive. ## "Agent" has been in production for the last three years as it got delayed multiple times due to the covid-19 pandemic. Unlike the response to the movie, the teaser and trailer got a good response which generated decent hype for the movie but the final content couldn't justify the sort of pre-release expectations it had, as per audience response. ## It is not that all is bad for the movie as the performance of Akhil and Mammootty is getting praise, but again, other departments didn't stand out. As per critics' reviews, the movie is let down by the poor writing, direction, and mindless over-the-top action. ## Overall, "Agent" has failed to make the long wait worth it, and it will find tough to get going at the box office. The opening, however, should be decent considering the decent pre-release hype.## Stay tuned...
